Re: Fanboys

Heh, the trouble is the trooper who invited me was in costume and I never got his name.  He said he was going to give me a card, but he never approached me again and I couldn't tell any of them apart wither their buckets on.  Is that crazy or what?  I'd love to go to DragonCon, I've tried a few times, but it always falls through.

Re: Fanboys

There's a KCRW podcast that has a report about Fanboys and the fight for the cancer storyline: http://www.kcrw.com/etc/programs/tb/tb0 … ts_to_be_c It's really honest about what happened, they even mention that Harvey wasn't happy with the dailies while the film was being shot. It's the most honest and most candid interview I've heard so far. Kyle and Dana Brunetti are in it, Jess from Mos Alba is in it via phone. The Fanboys part is in the second half of the podcast. To get to it you need to click either the Listen or Download buttons (which I find easy to overlook).

It is mentioned that the movie had an initial budget of $4 million.

Re: Fanboys

Excuse me?  If that's true then why didn't Fat Bastard intervene when production was underway and right the ship?  Why would he let them "waste" his money on something he didn't like, only to go back and waste more money a year after the movie was in the can?  That makes no sense.  Who said that?  If it's really true, I think it makes Harvey look like even more of a totally inept f**ktard of a studio boss than we already thought.

They also said that Harvey loved the first test screening of the movie. I don't know. It sounds like he was sending mixed signals. Listen to it yourself when you get home. I don't know who originally said that Harvey didn't like the dailies, in the podcast it was the KCRW guy who actually said it.

Re: Fanboys

This is the actual text they said:

(There some talk about enlisting enthusiastic fans to help with the movie and people being geeked up for it.) But while this all might have been a dream come true for Fanboys, sources told me it was turning into a bit of a nightmare for Weinstein. Dailies that were coming back from the set were not looking good. The first-time director didn't seem to have a good sense about things like camera choreography, and the jokes were falling flat. But producer Dana Brunetti says that when they finally did a test screening, everyone seemed psyched.

"I remember talking to Harvey afterwards, and they came out and they said, Do you wanna see what the results are? And he's like, I don't care what the results are, I love the movie. It's one of the best experiences I've had in a movie in a while. It was the first test screening we had, how awesome is this?"

But Harvey Weinstein, like most people in Hollywood, talks a good deal. No one was surprised when reshoots came up.

Re: Fanboys

That's beyond ridiculous.  And you know what, I'm really kind of tired of the whole mess.  I think I'd rather not listen to anymore revisionist history about the movie and just enjoy the DVD when it comes out.

I've got enough aggravation right now with the RTWM trolls and the Dakota Fanning/Kristen Stewart haters on the Runaways MB.

You know, one of these days it'd be great to be able to just enjoy a movie without getting wrapped up in behind these scenes politics.  Sometimes, I wish I'd never discovered the IMDB boards.

Yeah, the main reason I keep going back to IMDb is that I meet the most amazing people there.  So many of our contacts originally came from that MB.  You, for instance, Larry.  Most recently, the editor of RTWM reached out to me.  If we could just get rid of the trolls...

Aww, well it is definitely worth it to meet people like you. I wouldn't have discovered this site either.

I've actually met many people in person at festivals and screenings who "met" me on IMDb. That not only includes fans but also actors, directors, producers, other journalists, and on and on. In fact, if it wasn't for someone I met via IMDb I might not even be doing what I am today.

It's also been a great way to stay in touch with people who don't have my email, MySpace, Twitter, etc. Although it's not that hard to find me online (just go to larryrichman.com or Google me lol) many people who had no other way to contact me have tracked me down via IMDb. Just recently an actor who heard I had photographs of him online tracked me down there and wrote to me asking for copies.

As far as the trolls go, though, the way I look at is that the better the actor/film the more people are going to be jealous.

Re: Fanboys

That jealousy thing is certainly the prevailing wind on the Runaways board.  It's amazing to me how many people suddenly hate Kristen Stewart because of Twilight when my guess is most of them had never even heard of her till that movie came along.  And now the Dakota Fanning haters are coming out of the woodwork. One guy said she's "taking over all the movies".  Wow, really?  Hmmmm.  I hadn't noticed.  And now that she's joining the Twilight cast, they really, really hate her.  You can tell most of them are teenagers, so it's hard not to just laugh at them.  I was especially amused by the guy who said we should all just kill ourselves right now because of the way the movie is being cast.  Gee, overly dramatic much?  I think I have enough to live for that the casting of The Runaways is not going to drive me to suicide.  People, please.

deb, but why do even bother to read the posts of these imbeciles. kill themselves over a casting, really?  when i read stuff on imdb if it starts like an idiotic post i just click to the next one. what's the point to fight with idiots you don't know, and who may have the excuse of being children. unfortunately i , like everyone, still have to fight with the idiots i meet face to face, so i save my energy for them. tongue

Yeah, I sure hope that is NOT the DVD cover art. We can't catch a break no matter what we do!

Irina, I try not to fight with people on IMDb, but sometimes they go crazy when you contradict what they say.  You can always tell the kids because they're the ones who start picking on you personally instead of talking about the issue everyone's debating.  This has happened to me a few times.  One guy followed me into private email and said the most incredibly viscous things, and he spread my personal details around online too.  Total creep.  Some people are incapable of having a civil debate.

Based on this photo it looks like it. The clothes are a close match. Can't really make out the logo on the dvd art.

The guy with the mask is definitely Chris, the clothes match, as does the watch and the gun and everything else. I don't know why they made his t-shirt appear like it's green, because it's not. It's dark gray. Kristen is also photoshopped in there because she was never wearing the bikini during that photoshoot. As far as I can remember, Chris never wore the Chewie mask either, so that was photoshopped on too.

The reason why they chose Chris as the person whose face to cover with a mask is probably because right now he's the least noticeable of the cast, where recognition of faces in the industry goes. Kristen, Dan and Jay have all had movies out fairly recently (and I mean movies that didn't go unnoticed--unlike the ones Chris was in) or were on high profile TV shows. In the podcast I posted yesterday, Kyle said something like that he got really lucky in casting Fanboys since some of the actors made a name for themselves after Fanboys was shot. He named Seth Rogen, Jay, Kristen and Dan. They couldn't really cover up Sam since he's the guy in the front of the picture. It's kinda sad and unfair, but that's the way it goes. We just need Chris to catch that lucky break to be cast in a lead role in a movie that actually gets made and garners some professional respect.

And, yes, the fact that they covered up Chris's face is just another slap in the face, but I know it wasn't done to personally insult us. If we hadn't gotten the chance to watch the movie in October, for me this whole Fanboys thing would have been the most ungratifying experience surrounding a movie ever.

The logo is there, look closely at the bottom of the Chewie mask, you'll see it.  And why did they have to cover anyone up?  Couldn't he have just held the mask or something?

You're really certain they didn't cover him up to insult us?  I'm not.  But I guess I'm beyond caring at this point.  Screw the stupid Weinsteins!  And especially their marketing arm --- THE MOST INEPT IN ALL OF SHOWBIZ.  Now that I don't care beans about having the box art, I might get a copy of the movie in a way other than PAYING for it now, just out of spite.

Yeah, I am. I don't have any indication that anyone beyond Kyle, Adam and Ernie know that we played a fairly big part in the whole protest. No one noticed that we hosted the Stop Darth Weinstein site. No one realized that your Linus banner inspired the whole thing. None of us has ever been publicly given credit for anything concerning the protests or anything else. And I doubt that the people who are responsible for the design of the DVD cover art even know that our website exists. I just think it's kinda arrogant to assume they covered Chris's face up just to spite the rebellious Marquette fans. But, hey, I could be way off base here.

I could have written a thousand words on how to deal with the morons on IMDb (in fact, I have :embarrassed: ) but nothing says it better than that. lol Might even make a great IMDb sig.

BTW for the most part, from what I know about DVD marketing/cover art/poster graphics/etc. TeeJay hit all the right notes. It's all about catching the eye of the consumer -- authenticity aside. Colors are changed because they "snap" better. Bodies/heads/costumes are shopped because they are meant to attract certain consumers. If a face or a name is hot at the moment that's what they emphasize. It's all about catching someone's eye in a crowded marketplace, especially the ones who walk through a Blockbuster or Best Buy or online site scanning the boxes for what "looks good."

The people who are planning to buy the DVD will buy it even if there's a steaming pile of dog poo on the cover. It's the ones who are just looking for something to pick up and rent or buy that the cover art is meant to appeal to.

Anywhoo...hopefully they at least go to his IMDb page and/or board and see about it there.
