No, Larry, I'm talking about the casual movie watcher who doesn't know all of everyone they like's credits. The aisle surfer at Blockbuster who might've just walked by and seen that cover and said, "Hey, there's the guy who played Adam on Joan of Arcadia", or "the porno hound from The Girl Next Door", or "the stoner dude from Alpha Dog", or "Mike Brander", and rented it. They won't have a clue that he's in it so it won't grab their interest. We've all got actors we really dig and we don't "follow", but we'll rent anything they're in.
You alluded to this very thing in your post where you mentioned people just looking at covers to see what looks good. I thought of the fact that it's the faces of the actors on covers that mostly draw me. You made me realize that we're going to lose rentals and potential new fans because of this choice.

Actually, as far as Chris' young fans go (teens to early twenties), a majority of them will probably rent/buy it because of Kristen Bell. If I wasn't on this MB and I didn't know about the movie, I might look into it because I like Kristen Bell. I probably would pass on it though, because I really don't like Star Wars.
Just thought I'd throw that in there.

Are you gonna let that stop you from seeing it? Because you really don't have to like SW.

If I see it at Wal-Mart or something one night, I'll probably pick it up but I'm not gonna make a special trip out to get it. If I don't have it by August, I'll ask Shawn get it for me for my birthday

In that case, I agree 100%. But I wouldn't call them fans. To me, by definition, "fans" would know about the film.
If you're talking about people in general who may have seen him in his other work and liked him (who I would not call fans) then, yes, they would be missing out. Hopefully they'll find out somewhere down the line.
I can't tell you how many times I've been disappointed that a certain actor's name was left off a poster, or an ad, or their face off a poster or ad, or not shown in the trailer, or not on the DVD cover or in the extras. But I understand the thinking behind it and am learning more and more as time goes on exactly why this happens.
A lot of people would be surprised to find out why their favorite actor's name or face aren't included everywhere. It's not just marketing. Much of the time it simply comes down to whether or not their agents did their jobs.
A lot of what you see, from the position and order of the names in the ads and on the posters, on the screen and on the DVD cover, whether or not the person is on the press junkets with the other actors, whether or not they are featured in merchandising, etc. etc. is all negotiated by their agents.
Offline
Jesus, could that be the case here? I've been privately bitching about his agent for a very long time because I've long thought she couldn't possibly be selling him right. I think we all agree that he's far too talented and generally appealing to have the difficulties he's had getting decent roles that aren't screwed around with the last few years. Who else is to blame but his representation? What a disappointing day. Can we just have a do-over?

I can't say and certainly wouldn't want to blame her without any knowledge of the facts. But it's the most common reason why an actor isn't listed or portrayed a certain way in the film's marketing materials and credits.
Most people probably know a little about billing -- how names in credits, on posters, in ads, etc. appear in a certain order. Sometimes its alphabetical. Other times it's not. Sometimes they are side-by-side or one is higher than the other but to the right instead of left. That is all negotiated when the actor's contract is signed.
But there are things most people probably never think about. Here's one example. You may know this but just for anyone who's curious about these things. You know how when you're watching the credits sometimes there are two actors' names alone on the screen while others have their name up there alone? That's called "single card credit" and it's something negotiated by the agents. In fact, they "buy" it, so to speak. What it does is give that actor more clout in their next negotiations. Also, whether or not their name appears at the beginning of the film or at the end (cast list) is also part of the negotiations. Although lately it's become common for films to not have any credits at all up front. But the single card credits still follow the film before the cast list rolls.
Studios and distributors generally don't do these things randomly or because someone in marketing said to do it that way. From the page on IMDb to the ads to the posters to the trailers, to the onscreen credits to the press junkets to the DVD artwork, who appears where and whose name appears where is mostly part of the actor's contract.

I hate the business more everyday, just for the sheer fact of how the politics ruin talent and originality.

I don't care for Star Wars but Fanboys looks amazing and Chris is in it! I have all of Chris's movies and will keep on buying them.

I agree with Deb. There's very few actors that I even regularly check their credits on IMDB. Yet, there's quite a few who I like enough to make me rent a movie. Usually when I go to the video shop to rent, I'll end up taking out a movie that I've never heard of before with someone I like in it. I'm not a big movie person at all, so maybe that plays into it, but.
On the 'yay' side, I'm looking forward to seeing the movie when I can. I quite enjoy Star Wars, at least the first three... and maybe I did used to have a poster for Episode II on my wall...even if I only endured Episode I. :embarrassed:

Hey guys!
Just got back from opening night here in Albuquerque for Fanboys.
I wasn't able to attend the "Trooping" part of today's event since I was taking part in an event at the Museum of Natural History earlier--but we wrapped things up just in time to catch a 9:40 showing. It was kinda cool because every year here in Alb, there's what's called a "Zombie Crawl".
People dress up like Zombies and limp and crawl down a street in the downtown area. It just so happened that the theater was the gathering point for these zombies. So there were about 40 zombies hanging out in the theater lobby while we were buying tickets. Very surreal, but totally cool. I even knew 2 of the zombies, lol. Anyways,
saw the movie(Maybe 20-25 people in the crowd ) and had a great time. The previous version of Fanboys I had seen was a little different than the theatrical release. Same storyline, but some of the music was different, added and removed scenes, etc...Still worked out well though.
I heard some of the people in the audience laugh at jokes that only true nerds would get..so I got a kick out of that..plus you could hear people whisper to each other everytime a cameo appearance took place...
Well, tomorrow afternoon, I'll be in armor and ready for another viewing(With lots of pics too)
In the meantime, here's a pic of my buddy Aaron trying to keep the zombies out of the theater.

That's HIGHlarious, Sean. I bet you're the only Fanboys fan who had to deal with zombies at your screening. Kyle would love that story!

Sorry about that. That was taken in Las Vegas, NM when we were filming the 'Riverside, IA' scenes. On the last day of shooting, Sam Huntington invited all of us to celebrate his B-Day with him at a little hole in the wall bar, and while there, the prop guy(Joe Arnold) presented that to Kyle. Joe said it was a tradition for him to give something like that to each director he works for. I thought it was pretty sweet too.

Do you know what some of the smaller items that you can't really make out are? I see Linus's pill bottle in the top right, obscured by an elbow.

There's a convention pass that all the Trek guys wore during the casino scene(TrekCon) , Linus' pill bottle(There were quite a few of those), Eric's comic, A signed book cover of 'Trekkin with TJ', Shatner's fictional autobiography from the film, Window's glasses, a Bottler carsalesman name tag for Kyle, a Skywalker Ranch pass, and then 2 engraved plates at the top and bottom.

It was day two for our Fanboys release here in Albuquerque and we had six guys show up to Troop for it's cause. We had a ton of people come up & take pics and ask why we were suited up. Alot of people had heard of Fanboys and had seen the trailer, but didn't know it was even out. (We were standing out in front of the theater on a very busy street downtown, so not all of the people talking to us were theater patrons) Lots of kids and people in general came by, and yes I was mistaken for Darth Vader quite a few times(Not a troop goes by where I'm not, hehe) but unfortunately no zombies today!
Alright time for some pics:
