Re: Amber Tamblyn

So I've seen NAB now and liked it pretty much. I have a problem with Spiral though. I started watching it a few day ago but I had to stop because I felt like I wasn't getting it.

On a side note: They are revamping Amber's official forum, maybe this is a chance to sign for it without having to wait six months.

Re: Amber Tamblyn

New Bloggy stuff...

Wednesday, April 08, 2009
Heart; An Empty Shell From My Shotgun.
Well... We finally made it. It's 2009 and our economy is floating on the juice of blisters. We should have never walked in their shoes. But as the world continues to get back on it's proverbial own two paws, I'd like to share with you a few good things. Shall we begin? Lets. Let us. We shall. We must. We shan't not shall, shan't we?

:::TONIGHT, 'THE UNUSUALS' 10PM EASTERN, ON ABC:::

I'm proud of this show. If you're into bumble bee's farting and crazy handle bar mustaches- I mean, if you're really into what Cee-Lo's baby would be like if Pablo Neruda was the mother of it, given Pablo Neruda had a womb- than this is the show for you. I'm half kidding. From the waist down.

Here's a fun little link to some preview stuff for the show, and though the flipcam stuff was my idea, I cannot vouch for the "starter kit" segment. Yes, "Shraeger's holding her own" amongst a bunch of broccolini-weinies, but must the narrator describe it so? We shall not shan't.

Here's a spoonful:

http://abc.go.com/primetime/theunusuals/index?pn=index

::::MOVIE 'MAIN STREET' UP NEXT::::

I am so excited to do this film. The last known screenplay of the late Horton Foote to be the directorial debut of John Doyle. If you tell me you don't know these men, I'll stick gum in your hair. And steal your lunch box.
My costars include some of my all time favorite actresses and actors; Patricia Clarkson, Ellen Burstyn, Colin Firth, Orlando Bloom and Andrew Mccarthy. The story is about people living in a close-knit Southern town who see their lives disrupted and changed when a stranger comes to town with a proposition. It's a subtle story, but sincere and truly golden.
Very rarely as actresses do we get to pinch ourselves. I remember a couple years ago doing an ensemble cover for Interview Magazine that included Hilary Swank. She and I shared a dressing room and I remember her saying to my manager about the movie she was working on, "You think once you've had that "one"- no matter how big or small the movie is- when you've had that transformational role, you think it will never, ever happen again in your career and to just be thankful you had it in the first place. And usually it doesn't and usually you are. I feel like this is my second chance." She was in the middle of shooting "Million Dollar Baby".

I'm no Academy Award winner, but after "Stephanie Daley", I know exactly what she's talking about. Thinking you'll never find roles like those again. These characters are rare and beautiful when they come to life and I hope you'll enjoy this movie as much as I will making it.

:::NEW BOOK OF POEMS! FINALLY!:::

I think I get more questions about this than anything else that's going on with me right now. My second book of poetry is being published by the makers of two of my all time favorite authors, Jeffrey McDaniel and Beth Lisick; Manic D. Press. It's been over 3 years in the making but this is by far my most personal and sincere writing to date. The title is, "Bang Ditto", it will be released this Fall. I'll be putting together a serious tour so if you want me to come to your home town, you best say so.
This book's gonna high five your mouth. Bang. Ditto.

:::THE DRUMS INSIDE YOUR CHEST VOL. 3:::

Since my move to New York, I've been wondering if it'd be possible to do a Drums 3 this year. Not only would it be hard to work on the damn thing from across the country, but also, I've been shooting a tv show. Television is the 300dpi of exhaustion. Let that sink in for a minute.

But alas, the support had been so phenomenal the fans and people who have seen past series. If you haven't been to one of our annual shows, check out: http://thedrumsinsideyourchest.com/ for the trailer and info.
This year we are putting together an incredibly unique and powerful group of performers. I hope you can come out and make it.

Also, side note, CONGRATULATIONS to our director of "The Drums Inside Your Chest Vol 1." Steohen Latty, as the documentary about the show is an official selection of The Newport Beach Film Festival, and, New Filmmakers N.Y. has selected it to be part of their New York Spring 2009 Series. We shall! Yes we shall!!

It will premiere on April 26th at Newport Festival (http://www.newportbeachfilmfest.com/) and in New York City on June 3rd at 6pm on behalf of the New Filmmakers series (http://newfilmmakers.com/). Come support these events if you can.

What else....The film I did with Michael Douglas, "Beyond A Reasonable Doubt" will be coming out in September. The band "Yo La Tengo" is HIGHLY underrated. I just stilt red wine on my white t. That's fermented grape juice to you youngsters.
I finally finished my book about the life of Katharine Hepburn. I can see 5 square blocks of stop lights through my bedroom window right now. A row of rubies.

Then, green.

-Amber

Oh my goodness, I just watched Stephanie Daley and I'm speechless.  Amber was absolutely amazing it in.  I think that's all I can say right now, I'm just stunned.

SD is Amber's best work so far. At least I think so.
I mean, I know she did a lot of other great work, but SD is something special.

Know what you mean, Dawn.  That's how I felt too.

Eventually, I wrote this...

Amber Tamblyn Won't Leave Me Alone

Not that I really want her to, mind you. You see, I watched Stephanie Daley on Saturday night and I have yet to get over it. That's the only way to put it. A movie hasn't knocked my brain this sideways in a while. I can't stop seeing it in my mind's eye. And hearing that damn rattling toilet!

The movie is beautifully constructed. But Amber's what you cannot shake. Maybe it's especially affecting if you are a Joan Of Arcadia obsessive who already loved her. I've seen the first Sisterhood movie a couple of times too, but it's not like I read the books or anything. And I couldn't care less about the Japanese horror adaptations. Suffice to say that I already knew Amber could do anything. And it's not like I'm surprised by her work in SD. But I am still amazed.

There's no way to describe what she does onscreen. You just have to see it. And after you watch the film, I HIGHLY recommend that you listen to the commentary by Amber, Hilary Brougher and the DP. You'll learn instantly how different Amber is from this character she LIVED inside and exactly how brilliant she is in terms of what acting is about and how never to get caught at it.

Do not turn away from the climactic scene, no matter how much you want to. You have to ride it out with her. For all she gives, you owe her that. Watch her analyze that scene later and you'll really understand its power.

It's not a "fun" movie, unless you love great acting. If you're like me and that's your thing, you'll be haunted for days.

Re: Amber Tamblyn

Oh man, the bathroom scene, yes...woah.  I also watched the commentary immediately after and Amber was soo insightful.  Did she ever win an award?  She's so deserving.  If I were to play some of these painful characters in a movie, I don't know if I'd be able to get out of them.

Re: Amber Tamblyn

She was up for an Indie Spirit that year, but it was the year Felicity Huffman won for TransAmerica.  Everyone knew she was a lock for that part.  Not even Amber could beat her, but she was soooo cute at the Awards.  She looked really beautiful that night too.

That movie is just... wow.  Her character is so unique.  A lot of people find it difficult.  I guess how you like it depends on your ideas about sex.  Personally, I love it.

Re: Amber Tamblyn

I love NAB. I bought the DVD when it first came out for $17 and only because Amber is in it. She's the best part of the movie but that's not the only reason I love it. I strongly recommend everyone to see it.

Re: Amber Tamblyn

I definitely want to see NAB, but nowadays I'm only able to buy some DVDs every so often and that's why I got SD recently as a treat, hadn't purchased a DVD in a while. So yeah, I'm open minded and really interested in seeing more of the amazing Amber.  But soon I will buy it, probably from Amazon if it's decent.

Re: Amber Tamblyn

I found mine at a used store for $6.  It's definitely worth that price if you can grab it up.  And remember as you're watching it, Chris almost got one of the guy parts.  We don't know which one, but I have a suspicion...

Since I kind of know the premise of the movie, it might have been kind of weird (or interesting ;]). What do you think?

Re: Amber Tamblyn

Well, it should be pretty obvious what I think.  Since Chris said in our interview that they figured it'd be too weird for JoA fans to see Adam and Joan in an orgy.  And I said, "Bring it on!"  LOL!

Re: Amber Tamblyn

Me too.  He also said they were always trying to get each other into things they were working on.  If The Unusuals makes it to a second season, I EXPECT her to find something on it for him, by golly.  I'm certain he would do it and love shooting in New York.
