Blah.. Two of the Nordic countries they picked and mine not amonst them. Bugger... And not even my closest neighbour country..
I hope the DVD comes out soon. I don't understand why they gave Chris a Wookie-head. Did someone think he was ugly?? Idiots...

I didn't get to see Fanboys in theaters either, Maria. I really want it on DVD already!

At least we know when the DVD is coming to America, Mel. Poor Maria, they have no idea when they'll get it over there. I'm just glad ---once again --- that I live in Atlanta. Technically, if I didn't live here, none of us would've seen it either. Because if I didn't live here, and TeeJay hadn't been visiting in 2006, we never would've met Chris and Kyle and never would've been invited to the screening in LA. We might never have gotten wrapped up in trying to save the movie either, so who knows what would've happened if the Brill cut was released? Wow. I never really thought about all that before.

I wish they'd release the DVD in Germany soon. But well, I'll probably try to get the American version somehow. I have my sources.

Maybe Harvey's still mad at the UK for being so uncooperative in his efforts to ruin the movie by liking the cut that he hated, so he's punishing you by keeping it away from you.

You'll see Fanboys eventually, Simon. Just hang in there! I haven't even seen the movie yet.

Kyle posted on Facebook today that Fanboys is coming to theaters in Australia, probably limited and probably beginning of June. Details to follow. What I don't understand is that they already announced a DVD release date of June 5, 2009 for Australia and New Zealand. So the movie's gonna be on DVD shelves and in theaters at the same time? That doesn't make any sense to me at all. Not that anything release-related concerning Fanboys ever made any sense...

That's good, hopefully that will make it cheaper if I can actually buy it here and not have to take the xrate and postage into it. I do want to buy this movie. I certainly can't afford to do that with all of Chris' movies, usually it's renting, but I do want to get this one.
I wonder if it will come to cinemas here? I doubt it. And it seems weird that they are releasing it at cinemas and on dvd pretty much simulatenously.

If I hear anything about a NZ theatrical release, I'll let you know, Susanna. The DVD is set to come out in Australia and New Zealand on June 5, so hopefully you'll find it in local stores.

News from Kyle:
Get ready for FANBOYS down under. The film will play on the big screen in Melbourne, Australia at the ACMI [Australian Center for the Moving Image] on Flinders Street
JUNE 5th - 21st!
plan now!

So it's just one theater in Melbourne that'll show the movie for two weeks? How sad is that?

Cool. Yeah, hopefully it will be easier for me to find it in a store since I'm in Wellington now, and you know, there's actually stores with a decent variety of stock. lol. Not hanging out for a theatre release though.

Great job! I was thinking maybe we could make up some stickers for all of us Dorquettes to stick over the real cover. Meant to mention that to you and now you've gone and created it!
And I'm sending that to Kyle. You should post it on Facebook!

I can't believe they would even think of using a cover with Chris's face hidden. The first cover better be the DVD cover!
Offline
Sadly, it's not. We're stuck with the stupid Chewey mask one on the real. But I do think we should make stickers to cover it up with this better one TeeJay made.

So there's no way they'll change the cover before the movie is ready to be sold? That sucks!

I think they've made their choice for whatever reason. No one can change it. But we can make our own covers. Screw them.

I think they've made their choice for whatever reason.
Of course I'm not working for the Weinstein Company, but the two reasons I can think of why they covered Chris's face up is this:
1) In addition to the lightsabers and all the other little things, they wanted something on the cover that would tell people at a glance that this is a movie that has to do with Star Wars. Something that's more in-your-face (excuse the pun) than the two lightsabers and the Princess Leia bikini and the Fanboys font. So they thought, okay, let's put a Wookiee mask on one of the guys.
2) Once they made that decision, they had to choose who to put the mask on. And I can see them choosing Chris because he's the one actor out of the five whose public profile is the lowest at the moment. Besides his small role in Witch Mountain, he hasn't had any big or even big-ish movies or TV shows out in the past couple of years, which all of the other actors have. His recognition factor is currently the lowest of the five.
When we first saw the DVD cover, Deb said that covering Chris's face up will lose the Weinsteins those DVD rental customers that just browse the shelves for something to pick and see Chris's face and go: Oh, he's the guy from xxx (xxx = JoA, Girl Next Door, Freddy vs. Jason, etc.), looks like a cool movie, let's rent it. But then again, (even though I don't like it) if you compare having Chris's face on the cover in comparison to not having a Wookiee mask on the cover, I think more people will choose the DVD for the fact that they figure it's got to do with Star Wars through the Wookiee mask than people recognizing Chris's face and renting the DVD because he's in it.
And now you can put me on the stand and crucify me for justifying the Weinstein's position on this. (For the record: Of course I hate that they covered Chris's face with a mask, but at least I can sort of understand why they did it.)

I don't buy it. Not for a minute. I promise you the idiots in TWC's marketing department didn't put that much thought into it. Look how they've "marketed" the film so far. In other words, badly. I'm not giving them any credit for some kind of clever marketing idea with regard to this cover. It looks slapped together. It will always look slapped together. And it will always be a slpa-in-the-face insult to Chris and his fans --- who did more to promote this movie than anyone outside of Kyle Newman himself.

Someone must have had the idea to put a Wookiee mask on Chris. In none of the promo shots Chris ever wore a Wookiee mask. The head I put on Chris on the cover is from the exact photo they used for the lower part of his body. They had to manually go and photoshop the Wookiee mask onto Chris, which was more work than to just use the Chris photo with his normal head. So they must have had some reason to make the extra effort and do extra photo manipulation. Why would they do that unless they had a halfway good reason? I'm just sayin'...
By the way, the other poster I posted earlier last night? The one where Chris is holding the film roll? That's put together from two different Chris photos. One photo is the main part of his body (with his hand in his pocket), but his arm that holds the film roll is from another photo (in which he's actually holding a Star Wars mask and not a film roll).
