Re: Fanboys

It was my second time watching Fanboys. I saw it before on this free movie site. It was in bad quality though. Fanboys is so funny and the end is sad.

Re: Fanboys

Yeah, I think that first time in bad quality really doesn't count though.  I bet you missed a lot trying to watch it that way.  I'm glad you got the DVD finally.

Re: Fanboys

Deb, if you're planning on a trip to Four Corners/Roswell, etc....You better give me a heads up!! True, there's not much to the Four Corners landmark(We were just there a few months ago) but it's still cool to see just for novelty sake...plus if you're hitting 4 Corners from the NM side, you can also see Shiprock which is pretty awesome.
Oh, and Fanboys has been on a steady rotation here at the casa since last Tuesday.

Re: Fanboys

Sure will. I'm hoping i will be able to watch it tomorrow along with some of the extras. The biggest problem for me is that the only player i have which is multi-region is downstairs and you're limited to when you can use it.

Re: Fanboys

There's a new interview with Kyle: http://www.moviehole.net/200919285-excl … yle-newman

And that's when Steven Brill took the reigns as director?

Yeah. And none of the actors liked that experience very much. Or any of the crew. Or anybody in general - I know you didn't. [Brill] had no respect for the movie he was making. And then he treated the actors in a way that just wasn't cool. It was very upsetting. There's some funny stuff on the DVD - a couple of the actors have some choice words about the experience.

I don't know what DVD you have, Kyle, but that's not on my DVD. Or did anyone else see anything in the extras where the actors talk about the Brill experience? Or was that in the commentary, maybe? It's the only thing on the DVD apart from the movie itself that I haven't seen yet.

Kyle also talks a little more openly about ROTN:

And just after you wrapped ''Fanboys'', you were hired to direct a remake of ''Revenge of the Nerds'' for Fox2000. What happened there? Did the financing fall through or something?

Numerous things - the studio didn't know what movie they wanted to make, and I didn't want to make a film about stereotypical nerds.

So was it an in-name remake only?

Well, it was still about these kids on campus that are persecuted by the cooler kids who band together to form their own fraternity. But they aren't like the nerds [from the original films], because a nerd is something different now. Unfortunately, that's what the studio wanted - the old stereotype with the glasses and so on.

Wouldn't work today, would it?

No. And also we couldn't find a satisfactory location - in Atlanta - to shoot. That was not good. It really put a damper on things. Overall, it was just a film that was badly managed. It's sad, because I have 40 minutes of the film cut together and I love it.

Re: Fanboys

The Brill-bashing is in the commentary during the Danny McBride scene.  The guys start cracking on Brill, but after a minute or two, Kristen tells them to "keep it positive".  I thought it was pretty funny.

And Kyle, you seriously need to let us see that footage!!!

Re: Fanboys

I would have said earlier in the post but i was in a hurry.

My opinions hmmm. hmm

Being a Star Wars geek that i am, i absoulately loved it. It was great fun seeing the cameos and hearing the references. Everyone's character was great and thought the emotional aspect of Linus was done well. Loved his last scene.

If i am honest however, if you didn't like Star Wars or any of the main cast, i can see why the reviews about it weren't that great. To me, the film was made just for Star Wars fans and that's why i loved it. If i had never seen Star Wars before or never heard of any of the cast in it, then i'm guessing the jokes would have probably flew over me and i wouldn't have enjoyed it as much.

Still for me; I LOVED it. big_smile

Re: Fanboys

I would have to agree with you Simon, but I would also speculate that most people at least know enough about Star Wars to get many of the jokes.  But yeah, if you've been living under a rock for the last 35 years and you're completely clueless about pop culture, you might not like it.  My boss would be bored, I know.  But her husband would laugh his ass off and totally recognize himself in the characters.  Except he's a Trekkie.  lol

Re: Fanboys

Glad i made sense.

I'm glad i've started watching Star Trek recently, so i was at least able to understand the Trek jokes. One Star Wars joke which i picked up on which relates to what i was referring to was when one of Seth Rogen's characters has the Jar Jar Binks tattoo and talks about how kick-ass Jar Jar is gonna be. Most people who are aware of the dislike for Jar Jar will find this funny, but there will be people who won't even know about this.

Re: Fanboys

In the scene where the guys have been camping out in front of the theater on opening night, he walks past Hutch and Hutch compliments his costume --- the one he's wearing in the above pic.  And then, when they're in the theater, he's sitting right behind the main cast, bucket-off, with a bandana on his head, so you can see his face.  He's in other scenes as a Trekkie, but I haven't spotted him yet.  Maybe TeeJay can get some screencaps of him.

I think Sean was also in the scene where they chase Bucephalus (Hutch's van) after he destroys the Trekkie statue. I'll try to grab some screencaps of Sean when I go cap the whole movie, probably some time this week.

Love the photo of Sean and Jacen!

Re: Fanboys

I think most people should get most of the jokes, Star wars is EVERYWHERE. I have been paying attention lately and I don't think a single day goes by that I don't see/hear it reference somewhere. I like the fact that there are some jokes that non-fans wouldn't get. I think that is part of the point of the movie in emphasing how hardcore these guys are. I loved it...btw was it just us in canada but did anyone else see the trailers for fanboys dvd during the mtv movie awards. I wanted to cry, its so disappointing that is wasn't released for real. I can't get over it.
