I'm working on that, Shell. I have an idea and Chris already said he was in if I could get a movie for him and Cusack off the ground.

Looks more like a big screencap to me... It probably is because the bug must be CGI, right? And, yup, this is gonna be another movie that's not gonna get a whole lot of publicity, so I, for one, am glad if we get any stills at all.

From Rankin's Facebook...
Kyle Rankin 's in Portland, Maine for the American Premiere of INFESTATION -- a film I wrote and directed for Mel Gibson's Icon Productions. If you're near the Waterville Opera House this Saturday (July 11th) at 9:30 pm... please come check it out!

I don't remember. Go to Chris's IMDb page, there are two listings for it in the News. I don't remember which one I clicked, but they both have the same stuff.

Kyle Rankin says he's always liked the horror/comedy combination.
"I think that being scared and laughing are very closely linked," Rankin said.
Rankin, a York native and graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, wrote and directed "Infestation," a post-apocalyptic horror/comedy which debuts at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Waterville Opera House as part of the Maine International Film Festival. The film will also be shown at 8:30 p.m. on July 16 at the Skowhegan Drive-In.
"Infestation" tells the story of a man named Cooper (Chris Marquette) who wakes up in a cocoon in a world taken over by large bugs. Cooper helps other survivors out of their cocoons to battle the bugs on his way to safety.
"I kind of made it for the 14-year-old boy who lives inside of me," Rankin said.
The film had a budget of less than $5 million, and was financed by Icon Productions, a company founded by Mel Gibson in 1989.
"They've done 'Braveheart,' and 'Passion of the Christ,'" Rankin said. "I thought they just did Oscar-worthy films. When I got the phone call telling me they were doing it, I was like, 'What? Really? Mel Gibson's Icon?'"
The bugs in the movie were the creation of Rankin's friend Efram Potelle, a Fairfield native who also has a role in the film. Rankin said that process took more than a year, while the filming of the movie covered three months and a total of 31 days of shooting.
"(Efram) was in charge of bringing the bugs to life," Rankin said. "He's very talented with digital effects. He kind of ran the team."
The movie was filmed in Bulgaria, in part because the American dollar was strong there at the time. Rankin said "Infestation" is not quite as dark -- both literally and figuratively -- as other recent horror films. There's the comedy aspect and a romance element, and Rankin said much of the film takes place during the day because "I got tired of going to horror films and not being able to see what the hell was going on."
Marquette, 24, had roles in "Joan of Arcadia" and "Strong Medicine." Brooke Nevin, who plays Sara, the female lead, has appeared in "Grey's Anatomy" and "The 4400."
"I think both Brooke and Chris are going to have long careers," Rankin said. "I hope to work with either one of them again."
Ray Wise, who plays The Devil in the TV series "Reaper," plays Cooper's father in the film. Wise has been in shows such as "24," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "The West Wing," and "Twin Peaks."
Wise and Rankin first worked together on Rankin's 1999 short film, "Pennyweight."
"He's a great guy," Rankin said. "I've tried to put him in everything I've done since then."
Rankin, who will be at the film's premiere on Saturday, said his next project is a comedy called "Campus Security." He said screening and pre-production could begin as early as next month.

I had to take a double take of that one pic posted in that review.
At first all I saw was a guy carrying someone in a cocoon out of a garage.
Then I noticed that he had insect legs.

One thing I should mention is that comedic newcomer Chris Marquette completely carries this film. I mean, completely. It's almost a one man show at times so I guess if you don't like his quirky, slacker acting style it could be a deal breaker for you. You'll probably remember Marquette as the friend who has cancer in the ensemble Star Wars comedy Fanboys, but here he channels all the charm of a sardonic young John Cusack to prove he's more than capable of breaking into the leading man game. The whole thing really hinges on this character and I personally think that without Marquette's comedic presence the film would have flatlined big time.
That's interesting to hear.

Yeah, I tried to post that Chris is NOT a newcomer, but the stupid website wouldn't let me.
People really need to do their homework before they publish something. I'm quite certain this AgentOrange guy knows how to check IMDb. If being a vet of over a hundred units of TV and film over the course of about 14 years makes one a newcomer, then I stand corrected.
Plus, I'm kinda getting sick of the John Cusack thing.

You're right, of course, but this guy probably only saw the "big picture", meaning movies that the general public knows about. Chris's only big movies that are relatively popular are Freddy vs. Jason, GND and maybe Alpha Dog, and even those weren't big Blockbuster hits. In the grand scheme of things, Chris isn't a well known actor. I'll bet that if you ask 10 people in the US if they know Chris, at least 9 of them will go: Who?
I know that newcomer doesn't equal "not well known", but it sounds like that's what this guy meant--just that Chris's face isn't instantly recognizable to those your average (horror) movie audience.
Also, he said "comedic newcomer". What comedy has Chris done before Infestation? GND and Just Friends. That's two movies...
That snippet from the review is a great compliment for Chris, I'm glad people seem to like him.

Yes, but I just wish it didn't sound like he has NO EXPERIENCE either in film or in comedy. Especially since, like you said, MOST people know him from GND & Just Friends. I don't care if he's not "well-know". He's been working for 14 years, he is NOT a newcomer. He shou'd've called him a relative unknown if that's what he meant, not a "comedic newcomer". That's my entire point. And I stand by it.
If he had said "the guy from The Girl Next Door, Just Friends & Fanboys", or somethig like that, I bet you more people would want to see it because they know from those movies that Chris can bring the funny. Now, yes, because he gave them NOTHING, they'll just be like, "Chris who?"
Dammit, I wish Rankin had used us for this roll-out. We could've done a much better job. His loss.

Um, that other website is a clunky, junky mess that I'd never even heard of until it started covering the movie. And I visit genre websites frequently. It's not AICN and AgentOrange ain't no Harry Knowles. So how is it any better than us? Honestly, I have a feeling the guy is just some friend of Rankin's. I promise you there's no reason on earth for that site to get an "exclusive" otherwise.

I don't know why that site claims to have written the "first review". They probably googled and didn't find any reviews for the movie.
So here's what I think happened: The movie was screened publicly at the Maine Film Festival on Saturday. This guy watched it there and wrote a review and posted it on his film blogging site. It is by no means an exclusive and I seriously doubt Kyle Rankin had anything to do with it, much less gave this guy an exclusive anything.
Personally, I don't think the site is clunky. It's a blog site like any other. It's not the greatest design, but I've seen so much worse.

Yeah, well, if that's the case, Rankin's not on his game. Would he rather have a clunky little blog page publicize his movie badly? Or a beautifully designed and maintained fansite publicize it very well. I'm kinda disappointed in him. I gave up trying to talk to him a long time ago. He hardly ever answers emails, and never in a timely fashion. So be it.

Rankin did write to me a few times out of the blue, but never any info I could share publicly, except for the Swiss film festival info that I reposted here the day I got his message. He's never been the most communicative of guys, but I guess he just didn't feel like he needed to do us any favors. (Why would he?) And, yes, even though that review guy runs one of those non-professional movie blogging sites, I still think he has more street cred than us. We're fans, we're bound to like anything Chris is in, right? (While I know that's not true for me, we're still biased big time, especially for movies that Chris plays the lead in.)
Oh, and how did that site publicize the movie badly? It was full of praise for the movie. It may not have publicized Chris well, but what does that have to do with Rankin? You're not really making a lot of sense.

Screw it then. Just drop the subject.
Who said anything about him doing us any favors anyway? He wouldn't be doing us a favor, we'd be doing HIM a favor. But whatever, I'm tired of going back and forth about it. At least Newman understood how to use us properly. And to a degree, Fickman. Cassavetes certainly knows how to use ME. Like I said, it's Rankin's loss if he chooses not to use us.

I saw this on Chris' imdb page and from the title I wasn't exactly thrilled, I've seen Bug with Ashley Judd and I thought it was horrible and weird! But since Chris is in I watched the trailer and I gotta say I'm stoked!!!!! It reminds of me Eight Legged Freaks which I loved! I think this movie is going to be hilarious and we get to see a hell of a lot of chris, what could be better?:D
