Re: The Education Of Charlie Banks

I definitely envy that, being kinda carefree.  I was also raised as an only child.  I have step and half sibs, but I never lived with them.  I think that made me more introverted too.

Re: The Education Of Charlie Banks

Well i was raised as the middle child and only girl. Plus up until this year the furthest any of my Aunts, Uncles, Cousins or Grandparents lived was only about and hour and a half driving. So any birthday or christmas usually had about 30 people show up and that was the norm. Plus i am actually considered quiet and reserved within my family. I find it amusing to have such contrasting opinions. Cos in average public i am loud and carefree but within my family i am normal to quiet. I love watching peoples reactions to my family. I love and respect them all so much

Deb mentioned composition.

So I thought I'd show how the same scenes would look in full screen and ruin the composition.

Re: The Education Of Charlie Banks

Yeah, I hate that.  Why have my TV shows suddenly stopped being show in widescreen???  That's been bugging the crap out of me lately.  Especially Medium and the last season of ER.  There was a shot on ER where two characters were sitting in chairs opposite each other and they were both offscreen!  All we saw was the empty space between them.  That's what aired.  But friends of mine who download the shows say that online they're widescreen.  So infuriating!

Re: The Education Of Charlie Banks

This is only my guess, but maybe they're only showing the shows in widescreen for the HD subscribers. You know, people who pay money for it will get to see the "good" version, everyone else just gets the regular version. Wouldn't surprise me if they did so to make more viewers pay for HD. Or does it not work like that in the US?

I don't know how it works since it's very likely that I'll never be able to afford HD.

This is crazy. I bought the DVD for around $25 just five weeks ago. Now amazon.com sells it for $9.99. Guess that's the price you pay (pun intended) for wanting to have things early.

Re: The Education Of Charlie Banks

I really enjoyed Charlie Banks; who'd have thought that Fred Durst would be such a good director ?

Did anyone else think of Matt Dillon's "Moody" character from My Bodyguard as a sort of inspiration for Jason Ritter's "Mick" ?

I did for some reason.

Oh yeah, Eva Amurri is flippin' gorgeous. I will probably be watching Californication now, even though I sorta hate that show.

I hadn't thought about that, but I can certainly see what you're saying.  My Bodyguard is one of my favorite films.

It just struck me that "Mick," and "Moody" are the kind of characters who seem ready to explode in violence at the drop of the proverbial hat.

It was interesting seeing Jason Ritter play such a badass. And, similar to my own experiences with "bullies," in real life, he did a great job of showing the subtleties of his character. What I mean is that pretty well all of the so-called "bullies" that I knew growing up, were basically decent human beings.

I was scared of those guys, but I never got a beating, although I probably deserved one many times.

I loved this movie. I started it a week ago and didn't finish it. I just wasn't ready to sit down and watch it. I gave it a second chance and am so glad I did! What a wonderful script and great acting. Of course I love Chris's part, but how amazing were jason ritter and jesse eisenberg!  Everyone should watch it! really interesting movie.

Re: The Education Of Charlie Banks

I just watched Fred's other movie, The Longshots.  It was pretty good.  Nowhere near as good as TEOCB, in my opinion.  But I was entertained and it had its heart in the right place.  Fred did a good job with his actors and the cinematography by Conrad W. Hall was excellent.  It was very pretty to look at.  The script was a little weak though.  Still, I'm a sucker for sports movies.  And I just really love that Fred Durst and Ice Cube made a movie together.  Cube produced it too.  Just don't remind me it's in any way TWC-related and I'm happy.

I actually did too Deb!  I haven't watched it that many times but the first time within the first 10 minutes I stopped watching it.  Then I thought, well all the actors I like are in it so its gotta get better so I gave it a second chance.  I changed my rating on netflix from two stars to four stars once I saw the entire movie.  Its definately one that you have to sit the entire thing through to enjoy the thoroughness of it in my opinion.

Re: The Education Of Charlie Banks

It gets deeper and deeper the more times you see it.  And it was incorrectly named.  It's The Education of Mick.  It's really his story.  Bonus that I love Danny, so proud of Chris's work in this.  Sebastian Stan is a trip and Eva Murri is amazing.  It just reveals itself more and more to me every time I see it.  Alex Nepomniaschy's cinematography is stunning.  Be sure you never watch it fullscreen.  It deserves widescreen.  And Chris is cut out of a lot of shots in the pan & scan version.  Pay close attention to the dialogue, it's very important and the actors are serious about it.  It's not just a "period" movie, it's a very old-fashioned movie.  Set in the 80's, but evocative of the 50's and 60's.  It's small, but epic in its feel and its themes.  I just adore it.

Re: The Education Of Charlie Banks

Well, now I have to see this one next.  I'm actually borrowing if from my public library. It sounds like something I'll really enjoy.  I'm still working my way through his movies and so far I enjoy the more serious ones.  While that may be because I'm older than dirt, I'd like to think it's also because he's just such a fabulous actor.  I've listened to some of his interviews and I have to say that his approach to his work and life are impressive to me.

On a related topic, and just to prove that older people can retain their sense of humor, I watched "Zombieland" this weekend and had a great time.  Jessie is another great actor.
