Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Why would you buy a German DVD, Anne?  I thought you'd want the American one.  And I'm not surprised it's down to less than 200 theatres and not much intake of cash.  It has been out for over a month.  Most everyone who wanted to see it has seen it by now.  No big deal.  It made it's money back.  And it'll do quite well in the ancillary markets, I'm sure.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Yeah well, I'd love to have the American DVD, but the German version has always both sound tracks on it, the English and the German one, and I unfortunately still need both at times. I mean, not that I'd watch it in German but the German one does provide subtitles too. And as far as I know very few American DVDs have German subtitles.

By looking at Universal's DVD release pattern, I think it's safe to assume that we should see a DVD release most likely 14 to 18 weeks from the U.S. theatrical release date. That would mean likely April 24, 2007 thru May 15, 2007.

Sounds good to me. Bring it on--the earlier, the better.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

There was a great article in Variety last year about that very thing.  Seems the window is getting shorter and shorter between theatrical and home video release because the studios aren't really making enough money theatrically anymore and they want those profits ASAP.  Some say the day will come when there will be simultaneous theatrical and home video releases.  And the studios are surpsising interested in the idea.  Theatre owners are up in arms, of course.

I'm hoping for April.  I posted on the IMDb board, only half-jokingly that they should put AD out on "4/20", because then you could bring the movie home on "Friday Night".  I thought I'd get a laugh out of the numerous potheads who post there with that one.

But 4/24 works for me!

I think Freedom Writers come out the weekend before AD.  Sounds great!  I'm so on edge about this thing. Can't wait to bring my little half-naked Chris home.  tongue  Did I really say that?  Yep.  LOL.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

So the US DVD release is gonna coincide with the German theatrical release, or at least they'll only be a few weeks apart. Which means I can probably wait for the DVD if I don't get the chance to see the movie in English around my area.

That'd be cool.  Then, you can see the deleted stuff immediately.  You're going to want to see what happened on the hill between Keith and Elvis, trust me.  And now you won't have to wait.  big_smile

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Don't get upset yet.  We might be getting more and that's all this website knows about so far.  Obviously, it's not an American website from the way things are worded and the way the date is listed.  This sounds very preliminary to me.  Stay tuned, I bet more details will be announced over the next couple of months.  I have a hard time believing after all Nick went through with this movie and after all the discussion on the boards about what we all want to see on the DVD, tyhat he would provide us with such a paultry selection of extras.  I fully expect deleted scenes because Nick has already talked about stuff he wanted to include.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

May 1st could be earlier than I can see the movie in the theater in English. Which is totally ironic, but, well... Only getting a featurette and a timeline would totally blow, though. Especially when both Nick and Chris said some deleted scenes would be in the extras. Maybe there's some legalities involved, like Universal not being allowed to make some of the filmed stuff public? Geez, what is it with this movie and all those problems? I don't know. Maybe there will be more features after all. Let's hope for the best.

Guys, like I said, don't rule out more extras just yet.  Notice how they can't even get the date right?  It's way too early yet.  Just hang in there.

Ah well, I just hope, they're going to show it in English somewhere near here. I might see the German version too, but first I wanna try the English one. Just to see how good I can understand, because I'm playing with the thought to buy the American DVD, not the German one.

I'm almost sure I won't be able to see it in any theaters around here. Meaning I would have to drive to the Netherlands or something. I kinda remember they had a release date lined up for May, but I could be mistaken and it was April. It was definitely later than March.

You know, I will probably end up taking my not exactly legal copy that I'll hopefully have in a few days, and if the quality is good enough, I'm gonna beg Klaus to let me watch it on his beamer. I'll let you know how that works out.

Um, what?  I thought you guys had been saying for ages that it'd be out there in March.  Now you don't know when it'll be?  I'm confused.  And what "not exactly legal copy"?

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

German relase date is March 15. That's not gonna be of any use to me if I can't watch the movie without dubbing. Release dates vary for each European country, so if I wanna see it in English in the Netherlands, I'd be bound by their release date. Am I speaking Swedish or something? It seems like no one understands what I'm saying today.

Not exactly legal copy is what I did with Freddy vs. Jason and Just Friends before I bought the DVDs. Get my drift?

Dude, they did indeed push it back a week! It used to be March 15. How many more pushbacks do we have to endure!

Here's a German lottery thing to win a bag, a filmposter or two free tickets for the movie, though:

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

You know for sure at this point that it'll be dubbed only in Germany?  Don't jump me, just asking.  And I don't know what you did with those other two movies.  Must be something you discussed with Anne.  But you don't have to explain it here.  Wouldn't want another dust-up.  Unfortunately, it looks like the thread in the Doghouse where we were discussing these things got deleted.  At least I couldn't find it last night.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

The Netherlands don't dub movies except for children's movies when they're too young to read subtitles. Everything else is always subtitled in the Netherlands, just like in in Scandinavia. Just like in Germany everything is always dubbed except for very few exceptions where hearing the original language has merit (like Passion of Christ or Apocalypto). So, yes, I know for sure that the movie won't be dubbed in the Netherlands because they just don't have an industry for it.

Well, a few cinemas do sometimes offer movies in English, too. I recently saw an add for that Holiday movie with Kate Winslet and Jude Law, can't remember the name. I hate that they don't do that with all movies. Ah, well.

It was called The Holiday. smile In German it was called "Liebe braucht keine Ferien" (Love Doesn't Need A Vacation). And, well, duh! Yes, some theaters show movies here without dubbing. It's just pretty rare that they do, and usually only in those areas where it makes sense (like where there's lots of foreign speaking people or British or US Army personnel still stationed).

That's why I keep up my hopes for Alpha Dog. They still have some American personnel here in Stuttgart.

Ah yeah, The Holiday. I tried to convince Nathalie to watch it, but she didn't want to.
