Re: Mercy

I just watched the Pilot, and I have to say I'm not very impressed. It did feel a lot like Nurse Jackie, but IMHO not in a good way. Chloe is like the slim and beautiful version of Nurse Jackie's Zoe, including the dopey smocks and the naive attitude. I think what bothered me most was that all the main cast is all perfect looking. I mean, what nurses dress like that in a hospital? The three female leads on the show all look like perfect supermodels. The war doc guy is totally handsome, in a McSteamy sort of way.

Somehow I felt like the show was trying to be real, but came across as not feeling real at all, at least to me. I mean, sure, Grey's Anatomy isn't at all real either, but at least they're not seriously trying to be. Maybe I'm also too much of a fan of ER, which always made me feel like I was witnessing the madness of a real big city hospital (at least most of the time).

I also can't say I connected with any of the characters. Too much of the same stuff that I've seen on lots of other shows. It wasn't a bad first episode or anything, it just didn't grip me. So I don't think I'll keep watching. Sorry, Rick. neutral I do hope you keep enjoying working on the show and I also hope all you guys continue to enjoy it.

Oh, and I have to say I quite enjoyed watching Mrs. Mulgrew (a.k.a. Cpt. Janeway) as a slutty looking drunk. smile

Re: Mercy

It didn't seem to be trying to be realistic to me.  It seemed like a character-driven drama with a touch of the comedic.  I'm actually kind of tired of blood and guts, so it was a nice change of pace to me that its focus seemed to be on the staff and not so much on the medical problems.

Or maybe it's just because Michelle Trachtenberg almost always makes me smile.

One of the problems I had with the pilot of Trauma is that it seemed to be trying too hard to be the new ER.  And I was also profoundly grossed out by the couple doing it in the ambulance.  Remind me never to ride in an ambulance unless I absolutely have to, and if I do, not to touch anything.  :puke:

Re: Mercy

I loved Trauma and I personally didn't think it was trying to be like ER. Well, maybe a little. If anything, it was more trying to be like Third Watch. But I still liked it. Will definitely keep watching it, just like Flash Forward. I'm a sucker for the tragic and flawed characters. wink

Re: Mercy

I didn't watch much Third Watch so I have no frame of refernce.  I did like the gimmick in Trauma of showing the Rube Goldberg-esque nature of the accident.  That was pretty cool.

No problem Teejay.  As I said, I don't write them.  I just hope it finds it's audience, and lasts.

I hope it's a huge hit, Rick!  That's one of the shows I'm looking forward to catching this season.  That and "Flash Forward" both sound really interesting.

I just read that Kate Mulgrew is on this show.  Love her!  Now I really hope it finds its audience.  And soon, since the networks are so trigger-happy. roll

Re: Mercy

She was in the first 2 episodes and she was pretty funny.  I haven't seen her in any more episodes (although I am only on episode 4 right now) but I assume it will be a recurring character.

Yes! Yes! Yes!   I just heard we won the hour in the ratings this week, and our audience is growing.

Re: Mercy

Well, we got a new version of the episode I am working on yesterday.  2 new scenes and lots of little changes.  This is for the episode which airs Wednesday.  So, I was up all night reworking all that I had done through the week.  Because the show starts mixing tomorrow.  This business is soooo glamourous.  I have to keep telling myself that.

Re: Mercy

Ah man, that stinks, Rick.  But I bet it happens a lot, huh?  I've witnessed some of the non-glamor myself.  wink

Why'd they make the change?

Re: Mercy

They added the scenes because it was short.  And then we got a few notes from the network, and since they were making changes anyway, I think they decided to make a few more.  Other than the new scenes, the changes were very small, which makes it more frustrating because you start thinking why am I having to do all of this for such little changes.

Re: Mercy

Ah, I see.  As long as there's not some big, mysterious issue with the story.  I'm still really enjoying the show.  I thought that scene this week between Chloe and Sands at his apartment was spectacular.  Funny, poignant, painfully embarrassing for both characters.  Loved it.

I loved the way Chloe just kept saying wow.  As she realised all that had been going on.

No big issues, the storylines continue to move right along.

Re: Mercy

You know what's also impressive?  I like Veronica with Mike a lot, but I also get how torn she is about Sands.  They're doing a great job making both guys so likable you don't know who to root for.

It's nice they haven't felt the need to make a villian.  So, the audience can be as torn as she is.

Re: Mercy

Exactly.  Real everyday human life rarely has outright villains.  I enjoy shows where the relationships are complex.  I kinda wish Harris wasn't such a jerk because I like James LeGros so much as an actor.  He'd be much better if they'd let him ease up a bit.  I hope they humanize him at some point.  Otherwise, everyone's really intriguing.
