Me and my friend Dacota were watching Comedy Central yesterday, we saw the commercial for it, she looks up and goes "Adam!" I've so rotted her brain

LOL! You've trained her well!

I have avoided posting about this movie for a while, but I think I am ready. First it was fun to watch Chris do broad comedy. I haven't seen him do it in anything else. (Girl next door is a broad comedy, but his character isn't very broad).
And he is good at it, so his scenes were fun.
But this movie has one of those things which really bug me, fat suits. I don't know why it is supposed to be funny to see thin actors and actresses in fat suits, but I find it kind of offensive. It isn't as bad as blackface, but it really is the same kind of humor.
So, the movie didn't work for me, but Chris was good. (I hope he does another broad comedy sometime)
Joan: So, my true nature is to be a catalyst? That is mad anti-climatic.
God: Anti climactic. Anti-climatic means you're against the weather.

It's not so much that fat suits are suppsed to be funny as far as this movie goes. They just needed the character to have been fat in high school. I'm not a big fan of this kind of stuff either. For instance, as much as I love Alison Hannigan, there's no way in hell you'll get me to sit still for Date Movie. And if you think the fat suit was bad in JF, I assume you haven't seen Alpha Dog yet...

I remember a few years ago when HBO aired "Shallow Hal" almost constantly. shudder
When the fat suits are supposed to be funny they rarely are. And when used in a dramatic context (as in "Alpha Dog") at best it's distracting.
Offline
In Alpha Dog it wasn't supposed to be funny. I never think they look real, but they don't bother me when they are not used for "laughs".

I think the one in AD bothered me a lot more than the one in JF because it was poorly executed. Mr. Cassavetes gets pretty annoyed when people point that out and he kinda went off on me once on IMDb about it. He has explained that something went wrong with the process they were planning to shoot the scene in. It was supposed to look like video. They ended up shooting it in a different process and the make-up and fat suit just didn't look right. It's a shame because it's very distracting in the scene.
This is fun. We're starting to learn everyone's pet peeves.
Rick - (un)funny fat suits
Deb - bad wigs and girlie prat falls
Anyone want to add their own? Maybe we should start a thread.

Basically the only pet peeve I have in film is really strange... when people blink too much. Especially when the camera is right on them and they blink every three seconds. It's distracting.
Offline
Can't say I've ever noticed anyone doing that. But there was this funny thing that Gillian Anderson used to do on The X Files that happened so much it got a nickname in the fandom. She would blink one eye, but not the other, or one slower than the other. We called it the "out-of-synch blink".
One thing I did notice and came to really love was how Jon Pyper-Ferguson played this character in an episode of Millennium who literally did not blink one single time in the entire hour. And this was an actor making a choice. It was not part of the character. He just did it to make the guy he was playing seem very calculating and fearless.

I forget what show I was watching, but they had an actor with a bit part on for about five minutes. Every time he spoke, the camera was on him and he just wouldn't stop blinking.

Sounds like he was terrified.

It's interesting to hear that you don't like JF except for Chris's performance, Rick. I love it and think it's 1 of the funniest movies ever. Chris is definitely the best part of the movie.

Just had a good laugh while watching TV ... they're going to show Just Friends next Saturday and they renamed it from "Wild X-Mas" to "Just Friends - No Sex". Ha. Ha. Ha. Who did they hire to think of such STUPID movie titles? Even I could think of better names! First, they named it Wild X-Mas even though the movie's not really about christmas, it's just set at christmas time. Maybe now they remembered that really noone has sex in that movie ... so they had to name it after that. I really should give up on German Television Business.

Just for the record, they didn't do it specifically for showing it on TV, they already did that for the DVD release, because that's what the German has as a title. I've seen it in stores a few times too, but I have not felt the urge to buy the German DVD on top of the US one I already have.

Well, I don't really pay attention to the DVDs released in Germany since I buy my DVDs from cd-wow.net nowadays, so I didn't notice that. I just saw it on TV and was like WTF??? LOL

I just went through this topic and went "wth, I never posted on this? it's one of my favorite Chris movies!" wow. I know I only registered here around november 2008 but c'moon! my profile pic is from this movie! I rewatched this movie today and watched the extras too because I just love how Chris is on those funny clips, ken doll and all I made my new friend watch them too. I think I turned her into a fangirl. lol
ps. anyone ever count in how many roles did he manage to keep his rings on? you know the one on his right thumb and the one in his left index. weren't those something he wore around 2005 because of a relationship?

And what about the eyebrow piercings. So sexy!

The forefinger ring and thumb ring seemed to be Adam. But they carried over to a few other roles. Like Strong Medicine, Just Friends, Graduation and Huff. He and Margo Harshman did wear promise rings when they were together, but they wore them on their wedding band fingers. You can see them in these shots...
