I also hate it when there are little to no special features on a DVD, which, at this point, seems to be happening with Alpha Dog. I'm one to watch every single feature that a disc offers, just because I'm fascinated with all that happens on movie sets. I would love to see some of the scenes that were edited from AD, especially the one Deb mentioned. But with the number of sources that list only those two features, it looks like that's all we'll be getting. sad

Me too! I love Special Features on DVDs, especially deleted scenes. That's why I tend to wait for Special Editions. I want to see the scene on the hill so bad! It would SUCK if that was not on the DVD! sad

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

If I love a movie or show, I watch every single special feature too.  And I was so jazzed about all the stuff Nick has been talking about for the AD DVD.  My only hope is that like, the JoA Season 2 set --- which appeared to have NO special features when it was announced --- AD will have more features announced when we get closer to release.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Seems that the U.S. theatrical run has come to an end.

According to boxofficemojo.com the closing date was February 22, 2007.
It made $15,242,450 in the U.S.

Non U.S. box office is still being added.

Country    Release
Date    Total Gross / As Of
Germany     3/22/07     n/a     n/a
Italy     2/23/07     $855,992     2/25/07
Russia - CIS     1/11/07     $2,105,859     1/28/07
Ukraine     1/18/07     $281,417     2/11/07

Foreign Total as of Feb. 25, 2007:
$3,243,268

To sisterdebmac, still no response from Matt about the extras on the dvd. He's been on IMDB but hasn't read my PM to him yet. Perhaps you can send him a PM as well, maybe you'll have better luck in getting a response than I have.

Yeah, Deb, ask him what Chris auditioned for again too. smile I personally can't see AD taking off huge in Germany, once it starts airing. There's probably gonna be quite a few people to watch it, but I don't expect it to go to the top spot or if so, to stay very long. I still hope it earns the guys a good piece of money.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Darn! So I guess the DVDs gonna be really lame, at least where the extras are concerned. What is it with these people? I really wish there was a way Nick could get that extra material to us. Put it on the website once the DVD is out or something. It's such a darn shame to let it all go to waste, especially when all the fans are just waiting to get their hands on it. Would it help to start writing to Universal?

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Well, I sent Matt another PM and told him that I thought that sucked. I asked if Nick and him could pressure Universal into releasing a "Special Edition" of Alpha Dog sometime in the future as fans of the film really want to have these extras.

I am sure that they should have more influence than we would, but who knows. If we start a campaign to write to Universal and request it, they just may listen.

In that case, I'm not going to buy the normal edition. I want to see the scene on the hill!!! mad

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Well, it might not help, but it wouldn't hurt to write to Universal.  At least then they'd know there's interest.  What's wrong those idiots?  I thought they fully supported the movie.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Here is the final list of special features (from davisdvd.com)

A Cautionry Tale: The Making of Alpha Dog featurette
Witness Timeline feature
Trailer Gallery

I'm guessing that the trailer gallery is a bunch of movie trailers for other films.

By the way, still no answer back from Matt regarding a special edition dvd.

This sucks, but you know what - I'm still going to buy it. Heck I bought the bare bones dvd of Flags of our Fathers and that had no features at all.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Illinois, I have also PM'ed Matt about the DVD and he told me the same thing he told you, that they haven't yet asked Nick for anything for the DVD. And then he said, "I guess there's always YouTube." So I don't think a special edition DVD is on the horizon. Guess we'll have to see.

Contact Universal via this link and tell them how you feel about the lack of extras on the DVD.

Here is a more direct link for their home video department.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Here is a copy of what I sent them.

Hello,

I am contacting you in regards to the lack of extras on the upcoming release of Alpha Dog.

All that is listed on your site is two extras, a making of featurette and a witness timeline.

The director and casting director posts on IMDB and has posted that they have many deleted scenes, a documentary that Heather Weinquist (SP?) made. I contacted the casting director of the film via IMDB and he said that you (Universal) never contacted them for any extras. He even mentioned that you didn't contact them for an audio commentary either.

Yet on the box office dud, Let's Go to Prison you have included an Unrated Edition of the film as well as deleted scenes, yet on Alpha Dog which made 3 times as much you only include two extras.

Why the lack of extras on Alpha Dog DVD?

The director has deleted scenes, a documentary made and maybe available to do an audio commentary and yet you don't want to include them on the DVD?

Fans of this film want more extras and are really upset about the lack of special features.

Don't be surprised if this doesn't sell well on DVD.

I sincerely hope that you either put more extras on the DVD or work with the director and release a "Special Edition" DVD in the near future.

Thanks for reading my letter.

Finally.  Only two weeks to go now.

Thanks, Illinois, already sent my comment to Uni.  Let's hope a bunch of other people do too.  And TeeJay, I have no objection to posting something on the front page to encourage other people to email them too.  We can talk about it in chat on Sunday.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

BTW, here's what I wrote to Universal:

Hi,

I'm writing to you about the upcoming DVD release of Nick Cassavetes' Alpha Dog.

Many of us have eagerly anticipated this film for more than two years.  Now that we've finally gotten to see it in the theatre, many of us WERE looking forward to owning the DVD.  But you've ruined that for us by neglecting to load it up with all the extras that we KNOW exist.

Knowing that an incredible documentary shot by Heather Wahlquist exists kind of makes the little "featurette" you list as an extra pale in comparison.

And why do we need a "witness timeline" when it's right there in the movie for us already?  And what's a "trailer gallery" anyway?  A bunch of previews for other Universal releases?  How exciting.  Yawn.

We want to see the numerous deleted scenes we KNOW exist -- from both the unofficial trailer, and because Nick told us on IMDb that there were tons of scenes that he wanted to include on the DVD.

We would also dearly love a director's commentary, maybe even one with as many cast members as you can gather.

What you're giving us is an insult.  Do you have any idea what we've been through supporting this movie?  Do you have any idea how many of us PAID to see it multiple times in the theatre?  Do you have any idea how many people in other countries can't wait to buy an extras-rich DVD?  Obviously, you don't or you wouldn't be just dropping the DVD out there with nothing of value on it, like an afterthought.

OK, so it didn't break the bank at the box office.  Do you want to doom the DVD to failure too by denying us this material we are willing to pay whatever we have to for?  Seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.  But what do I know?  I only spent 14 years in the video business.

Honestly, at this point, I have no interest in buying this DVD that I was once incredibly excited about.  Why should I bother?  I can get the movie off the Internet already if I really want it.  You understand that, right?  So what incentive are you going to give people to actually spend MORE money on the movie when they don't have to?
