I don't know about the other films you mentioned, but I would actually love to see a remake of The Neverending Story. I absolutely love love love the original 80s film, don't get me wrong -- big part of my childhood -- but if you read the book, the film covers only a very small part of it and there's loads more left to explore. It could certainly turn out to be a completely rubbish film, I know I found the sequel to be lacking, but I'm not entirely opposed to the idea of another Neverending Story film if they stick to the book and don't try to make some new hip and trendy story with the characters. I'd be more than a little wary about it, but I don't think it's a completely terrible idea.
I agree that the name should not be "The Karate Kid." As soon as the trailer came on in the theater, my response was "F--- you! You can't remake a classic!" and I simply couldn't be objective about it at all. I think I might have actually booed lol. Perhaps I should be a bit more open-minded...;)
I'd prefer legit too, but from what I read, it doesn't seem like they have any intention of ever releasing it on dvd, so this seems to be the next-best option.
For anyone interested, if you want the entire second season of Huff and you're willing to drop $21.75 including shipping, you can get a perfect quality bootleg on ioffer.com. I love this show and was so disappointed when it was cancelled! Had kind of forgotten about it till I read that Chris was in it, which I only vaguely recall (I know, I know, but it's been awhile, ok!) and decided to track it down. Thought I'd share that the dvds are in fact out there...
Repo Men was cool. Won't change your life, but if you dig sci-fi/"somtime in the not too distant future..." style films, you'll prob enjoy it. It's got a good twist at the end. Squeezed it in between a meeting and work -- I love a good matinee
I thought Daybreakers was great -- hope you like it!
I'm interested to see what others think of Alice in Wonderland. I actually hated it. This is due in large part to the fact that I was expecting Alice in Wonderland -- the book version. It's a totally new story about Alice returning to Wonderland when she's older, and in my opinion it doesn't come close to the original. I was really disappointed b/c I think Burton could have done a fantastic job with the original story. I always found the original terrifically twisted and Burton's actually came off as more childish to me. And I agree with EOcean (Melody right?) -- I'm over the Depp/Burton thing. I really love a lot of Burton's older stuff and I just don't feel like his recent films measure up. To me it seems he's lost his originality. And I love Depp just as much as the next person, he's incredible, but I generally don't love him in Burton's films. The weirdness just never quite feels right to me. Anyway, like I said, curious to see what others think.
I loved Shutter Island and would absolutely recommend it. Very trippy and keeps you thinking. Felt like I got my money's worth with that one.
I'm disappointed to see that Repo Men got such lousy reviews -- I was really hoping for a good sci-fi flick. Of course Surrogates (another sci-fi film that was in theaters last fall) didn't get terribly good reviews and I thought it was pretty rad. I guess I just dig the sci-fi/action thing. I think I'll still give Repo Men a chance.
Well...Here's my take:
T&E didn't feel like Joan and Adam at all, I think we all agree on that. I was just like, "Who the hell are these people?!" And "Spring Cleaning" was also pretty lame and not really quite them, until the end anyway. I actually liked the ending of that episode when they gave each other back their boxes of stuff from their relationship and Joan said how she didn't want to clean him out of her life and lose what they had. I felt like they were Joan and Adam again. And when Joan is standing there outside his workshop holding her box and crying and you see him through the window working on a sculpture -- that made my heart hurt. "Common Thread" was ok, I thought it was kind of cheesey when he comes running down the trail in the rain -- "I'm ok!" blah blah blah -- didn't really feel very real. But I liked the conversation with Adam in the tree and it gives you a little more hope. And by the last episode, I really liked the direction they were going in the show with the introduction of the Ryan Hunter character -- very intense. It's so horribly disappointing that we'll never know what was going to happen. I feel like I'm having to say goodbye to some very dear friends who I'll never see again...there's a little ache in my heart. I keep listening to the Blessid Union of Souls song "Peace & Love" over and over..."I hope you find everything you are worthy of/ I'm gonna miss you, but I only wish you peace and love/ Peace and love, tears of joy, kindness of strangers/ All of your roads paved in gold by guardian angels/ Wherever you may be in this world/ My salutation says it all/ May you always have enough peace and love..."
Anyway, on a completely different note, I know that many of you prob weren't totally down with the whole God thing and were just more interested in the relationships on the show, but I really loved that. It's actually what first got me interested int the show. Not to say I don't totally love the relationships in the show as well -- I was just as giddy as the next person when Joan and Adam finally got together -- but I also really dig the way they brought God into the day-to-day and I esp love how respectfully and realistically they portrayed Catholicism. I'm passionately Catholic and have a dynamic relationship with God, so it was really cool to see Catholicism portrayed in a real way. So often in films/tv shows Catholics are shown beating/molesting children or as completely dippy people who don't know anything about their faith and are just "following the rules" and having no relationship with God. I'm so thankful for the way this show gave us a strong Catholic woman (Lily) who had a complex relationship with God. Very cool in my opinion. There's so much I love about this show, so many different layers. It's such a shame it's over and we'll never know...
And as a final note, I think I have to change my questionaire response about what question I would ask Chris if I had the chance. I think if I actually ever met him, what would first come out of my mouth would be, "How could you cheat on Joan?!" I don't think I'd be able to stop myself lol
Ugh...that was excrutiating. I blew off doing my distance/online course work for like the billionth time to watch JoA and saw T&E this morning. I feel sick and personally betrayed. I've been watching so much of the show -- a few episodes a day -- so it all feels very real and personal, like these are people I actually know or something -- which is totally weird but I know you all can relate and I'm not alone in my weirdness Anyway, it will def take some time to process and I need to finish the last few episodes, probably watch them all more than once to be a bit more objective. I feel like someone cheated on me! Horrible! But I will say right off the bat that the acting was truly awesome -- Chris did a great job portraying Adam's guilt and whatnot. Hope he never has to feel that guilty in real life!!
Ok, just want to share with you all that I'm up to T&E, just watched Secret Service today. (I just got into JoA a couple weeks ago when the marathon was running on SyFy and I've been feverishly watching it every spare moment I have.) I'm literally feeling completely nauseous about watching the rest of it having some idea how it's all going to go down. For real feel like I could vomit. Ughh...will probably finish it tomorrow and be able to share my take on things. Totally dreading it...:(
Ok, cool -- thanks, TeeJay! I thought about posting it there, but then I was already here...Anyway, I'll post in the appropriate place next time
That's an interesting little tidbit about the Spanish. I figured if he spoke it, it probably wasn't regularly b/c he got the emphasis wrong on one of the words, but overall he did really well with it -- it didn't pain me to hear That's cool he was able to get it down so well. Awsomeness...I'm officially impressed.
Going out to meet up with friends to see the Dropkick Murphys and celebrate St. Patty's Day Boston style -- have a great rest of the weekend, everyone!
Peace
So I watched "Infestation"...
Taking it for what it is, a creature feature sci-fi comedy, I liked it. But I can see why it wasn't terribly successful; without a bigger budget and bigger names in a film of that genre, there just isn't a large enough audience for that kind of film. It was totally something I might have come upon and watched on the SyFy channel (what the heck is up with that name by the way? Why is it not Sci Fi anymore??) and thought, "Hmm, that was decent," and then forgotten about. That's not to say Chris wasn't great -- I think it was the comedy, which he carried out so well, that saved the movie from being completely cliche/predictable. I mean, the plot itself -- aliens attack, few humans survive, they find the nest or whatever and destroy it only to leave you with a cliff-hanger ending -- they're still out there and they're coming for you! -- this story has been done, but the comedy made it a bit more original. It was definitely a different role for him -- all the action and whatnot -- so that was cool, seeing something different, and really, who would ever pass up a role where you get to be the hero and fight giant bugs? I wouldn't! But this unfortunately wasn't going to be his breakthrough into the mainstream...I enjoyed it though Hope that didn't come off as too negative. I did like it. It was a pleasant distraction from the fact that the basement, where my bedroom is located, has started to flood -- not my bedroom *yet,* thank God. Any of you all who believe in God, please pray for this wretched rain on the East Coast to stop!!

And as for my lurking, it's been pretty limited. I'm newly fanatical about Chris -- it was only fairly recently that I got hooked on JoA and then put together that he was in several films I liked. It was one of those lightbulb moments -- "Ah-ha!" I wouldn't have wanted to read fan reviews beforehand anyway -- I did just look at stuff you all wrote now that I've seen it though. Question: Does Chris actually speak Spanish? His pronunciation wasn't bad so I'm thinking he's at least familiar with it. It kills me when they butcher it in tv shows/films and you can tell that the actor has no freakin clue what they're saying. Random fact about me: I'm mostly fluent in Spanish after spending 2 years volunteering in South America.
Ok, it's wicked late now after changing the clocks...Peace.
Well thank you all very much for the warm welcome!
Hope you're having a superfantastic weekend! I gave up waiting for the copy of Infestation I ordered to finally come in and went out and bought a copy, so I will be enjoying that tonight
Peace
Hey, all!
My name is Olivia, 25, from MA. I've been creeping around here a bit, so figured I should introduce myself Here are my questionnaire responses...
What's the first thing your ever saw Chris in?
Just Friends
What's your favorite thing he's done so far?
Joan of Arcadia -- I like that you get to see his character really develop over time
What's your favorite scene in that movie/show?
When Joan asks if he wants her to like Iris and he says, "No...I want you to like me." aaaawww
Who's your favorite Chris character and why?
Again, Adam since you get to see the character develop so much and the romance is so cute. He's super funny though and you don't get to see that all that much in JoA, so my second fav would def be his role in Just Friends -- he's hillarious!
Do you remember the first time you Googled Chris? What site did you land on?
I think I looked at IMDB first, then this one
What role in what movie --- any movie --- past, present or potential would you love to see Chris play?
Ok, this is going to sound completely random, so I'll put it in context a little bit: My favorite book ever is "The Last Unicorn" by Peter S. Beagle. It struck me that Chris would do an awesome job in the role of Schmendrick the bumbling wizard/magician. If you've ever read it, you know that this character is both tragic and comical, and Chris has more than proven himself capable of handling roles that are emotionally complex. And for anyone who's seen the animated film, much as I love it, they of course dumbed the story down immensely and cut out a lot of the storyline about this character, so read the book before you think I'm a total weirdo
Seen any Chris movies in a theatre?
Just Friends and Alpha Dog
Own any Chris movies?
Joan of Arcadia, Just Friends, Alpha Dog, FanBoys, the Girl Next Door, and I've ordered and am impatiently awaiting the arrival of The Education of Charlie Banks and Infestation
What do you like most about Chris?
I like that he has played a such variety of characters and demonstrated his ability to handle emotionally complex roles. It seems like he is continually challenging himself since he continues to go for different roles and try new things; I really like that. So many actors seem to play the same role over and over again; I enjoy that everytime we see him, it's totally new everytime. Very cool.
If you could ask Chris one question, what would you ask?
"Want to hang out sometime?" j/k Oh gosh, I dunno...probably just about what he's listening to and reading these days. He seems to be quite the avid reader based on what's in the interviews and whatnot on here and my degree is in English lit so...yeah...
What would you want to see Chris doing next out of these?
a) a very dark and suspenseful thriller
b) a sitcom
c) a quirky and/or romantic comedy
d) a horror movie
e) a drama TV show
f) an action movie
g) a dramatic movie
h) a medical or cop show
i) a theater play
j) something else entirely (if so, what?)
I guess I already kind of answered this with the Last Unicorn thing (j: a fantasy film), though a romantic comedy would be fun to see if he were the lead -- bring back a little Adam to set all our hearts aflutter
