Oopsy sorry. IKR= "I know, right?"

Call it the Twitter effect. I think in 140-character thoughts.

#3 Re: Chris On Screen » Criminal Minds » 29 Jul 10 :: 23:38

IKR there's nothing worse than having to wait a week, especially when they do carry over a storyline or have a 2-parter.

BTW before the 3 hours of CM they do 2-3 hours in a row of Without a Trace. And on Friday nights they have a 5-episode WAT marathon from 7-12.

#4 Re: Chris On Screen » Criminal Minds » 29 Jul 10 :: 23:23

I rarely watched it over the years but I lost my cable about a month ago (long story) so I can only watch "regular" TV. I discovered this channel called ION (it used to be PAX) which has been showing reruns of Criminal Minds starting with the first season.

The cool thing is, they show 8 episodes a week. Monday and Tuesday they show 3 episodes back-to-back at 9, 10, and 11 and on Wednesday they show 2 (10 and 11). So in just the last month I've seen 32 episodes -- the entire first season into the 2nd lol.

It's not hard to get hooked on a show when you watch 3 hours of it in a row lol. So I'm hooked. tongue

I have both originals but I don't know how to attach it here. I can upload them to ImageShack. hang on.

Yes, he's disabled the messaging option on Facebook.

Skip this if you know this -- if not, this may be useful. As far as Twitter goes, you can only send someone a DM if THEY are following YOU. Otherwise it won't go through. As you said, you can @ him in a message and he will see it. He does reply to @ tweets which means he is definitely seeing them. So that's as good as a DM as you can get at the moment.

What you can do (and I don't know if he will do it, but it's worth a try) is to send him an @ tweet asking him to add you, then you can DM him. I've done that (and had it done to me) many times. But that requires him to add you, of course, and I don't know where his head is on that.

He does have a contact email:

You might also try to contact his agent:

I know, I'm so happy for him. I guess it's safe to say Mr. Mantegna may have had a hand in this. wink

I missed Wartime when I was at Toronto last year. I don't get IFC On Demand but I'm heading up to NY this weekend anyway so I might be able to catch it there. Of course I'd rather see it in a theater.

Yes, while Cannes is the one most people think of, there are other festivals that top the list for indie fans. #1 is probably Berlin. After that I usually mention Edinburgh and Venice as the overseas festivals I'd attend if and when I'd go to Europe.

Not sure if this is posted...

HIGH School has been selected for the uber-prestigious Edinburgh Film Festival, June 16-27. This is arguably one of the top film festivals in the world. I'd place it in the Top 10.

#15 Re: Square Eyes » "High School" World Premiere at Sundance Film Festival » 12 Dec 09 :: 19:43

The screening schedule for the 2010 Sundance Film Festival has just been announced.

There will be 5 screenings of HIGH school: Sunday 1/24 at 11:30 PM, Monday 1/25 at 9:00 PM (Salt Lake City), Tuesday 1/26 at 11:59 PM, Thursday 1/28 at 2:15 PM, and Saturday 1/30 at 11:45 PM.

SCHEDULE

BTW the festival always pays the way and puts up the filmmakers and stars -- that's basically what the sponsor money is for. Of course, they decide who is included and if it's a large cast not everyone will be flown in. In the case of someone not being on the list they do, of course, have the option of paying their own way.

I don't know how big his role is or if he is considered one of the major stars of the film. If he is, they will pay his way. If not, they won't.

Also, the filmmakers are only allowed 10 tickets per screening. Very often the cast members cannot get tickets for themselves, at least for the first screenings.

BTW2 the still on the official festival page for the film features Sean and Matt Bush:

Thanks Tina! I am going to the festival, of course, but have to wait and see the actual screening schedule. As long as its not in conflict with another film or after I leave I'm definitely going to see High School.

Thanks for posting that, Larry.  I've been so brain-dead from starting a new, very complicated and exhausting job that it didn't even occur to me to post it after Mama Marquette told us about it last week.  And now, after what you said on IMDb about the list being embargoed until today, I'm glad we didn't post it.  :doh:

Speaking of mums, I had the lists of all the films well in advance also but had to keep mum about it myself. The last thing I want to do is piss off the filmmakers (I don't care as much about the festival) because I want to have access for interviews, etc. It would definitely have been a negative if you'd posted it so kudos for holding off on it. :applause:

Wow cool. I just wish I could go there. I already have three movies from Sundance I'd like to see. But who knows if they'll ever come to Germany? sigh*

I was so excited when the out-of-comp films came out yesterday since I have so many friends with films there this year. Last year I had ZERO. It was very depressing, especially since 06, 07, 08 were all great years. Besides Sean, this year we have Kristen Stewart with 2 films, Paul Dano, Rory Culkin, Aaron Johnson (he had a film there last year but didn't show up), Melissa Leo, Kevin Zegers, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and many more. Some of my best friends are among them, and I'm very involved this year with Kristen's film Welcome to the Rileys having gotten to know the producer early on. So I already have interviews set up with them. I'm more excited about this year than in awhile.

Hopefully I'll get to see Sean again and maybe Chris will show up. big_smile

High School has been selected for the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. It will screen in the Park City at Midnight section. This will be the World Premiere.

Excellent!

We also had some interesting banter about other films' name changes *cough*Daze*cough* but you can guess what he thinks of that.

#19 Re: Chris On Screen » Choose Connor (a.k.a. The Politician) » 17 Nov 09 :: 23:52

Luke and I talked it over and he decided that to satisfy all the parties concerned and lessen the confusion that may be generated, it should be referred to as:

"Choose Connor" (aka "The Politician")

or

Choose Connor (aka The Politician) when italics are substituted for quotes.

#20 Re: Chris On Screen » Choose Connor (a.k.a. The Politician) » 17 Nov 09 :: 00:49

I can verify this based on a discussion I had this morning with writer/director Luke Eberl after I discovered the change on IMDb PRO.

The powers-that-be decided to rename the film in preparation for international release. Technically this means that IMDb PRO is correct and that the film is now titled The Politician. Films don't generally have two different names, one for domestic release and one for international release except in the case of non-English-titled films renamed for English-speaking countries (translated into English) or English-titled films translated into another language for distribution in those countries. Even then the translation is generally the same or as close as possible, not a completely different title.

Of course the DVD is already out with the name Choose Connor on it and nobody will receive labels to put over it. It wouldn't be the first time a film's name was changed even after DVD release although it certainly is rare.

But all the actors in the film have had their filmographies changed to reflect the new name on IMDb PRO.

#21 Re: Square Eyes » In Praise of Chris's Colleagues » 14 Jun 09 :: 17:42

That's correct. The July release date was actually pulled on May 7 and changed to "TBD". On May 14 it was taken off the schedule completely. What happened this week is that the company division putting it out ceased to exist.

It would take too much space here to list all the various milestones but, as TeeJay pointed out, it has been released outside the US both theatrically as well as on DVD at various times over the past couple of years.

The film is available on DVD outside Region 1 (North America). If it can be obtained it can be played in Region 1 on an all-region DVD player, on a computer with software that is region-free or, in many cases, a computer will allow you to play a DVD from other regions by switching the region code on the DVD player in the computer. Usually you can only switch regions a few times, however.

It may be released theatrically in Canada. That company does not have DVD rights but if they are able to obtain them and release it in Canada on DVD, that would be Region 1 which would allow anyone in North America to play it. You'd just have to get it from a Canadian retailer. That's not hard to do. Usually you can get DVDs released in Canada from places like Amazon.

There are a lot of "ifs" here.

Of course there are still other ways of putting it out. For example, many films that go unreleased theatrically make their way to VOD (Video On Demand on cable TV). IFC does this. Other films are distributed online (legally).

I won't discuss illegal ways of obtaining films.

All that said, for people who still want the film to come out in theaters in the US, that can only happen if another company buys it and puts it out, as TeeJay said. They would only do that if they thought they could make the money back.

Lionsgate buys genre films (horror) and exhibits them theatrically in a package (8 Films to Die For). This makes it easier for them to make money since they aren't marketing just one film. A theater will show all 8 films for a limited period of time, so they don't have a long-term commitment. A lot of small horror films have been acquired that way. Then they put it out on DVD both in a package of 8 films as well as individually.

Those are a few ways it might still be obtained now and in the future.

#22 Re: Square Eyes » In Praise of Chris's Colleagues » 12 Jun 09 :: 19:52

There is a company, E1 Entertainment, which bought the Canadian theatrical rights. If they also purchase the DVD rights and put it out there at least we would have an R1 release.

#23 Re: Square Eyes » In Praise of Chris's Colleagues » 12 Jun 09 :: 19:40

And how ironic that they bought the film from Weinstein, who are now on the verge of shutting down themselves.

#24 Re: Square Eyes » In Praise of Chris's Colleagues » 12 Jun 09 :: 19:28

This doesn't affect their German operations (the link above). Senator US is basically a separate company. Here is the list for the US company:

TeeJay wrote:

I wonder if any of Chris's movies that haven't been released yet are affected by this. I don't think so, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know?

Chris doesn't have any films with them. There is one, The Informers, with Amber Heard, Aaron HImelstein, and Lou Taylor Pucci, among many others.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0865554/

Is this only affecting theatrical releases?

It affects all their US releases.

TheCentralScrutinizer wrote:

Damn, that sucks.  They can't even sell those films off to someone else?

That's the big question.

It gets complicated because some of the films were produced by others or in alliances with others who are contracted to throw in some or all of the P&A money (marketing), in which case it wouldn't cost Senator much to release them.

In other cases other companies paid some money upfront for marketing but now won't come up with the rest unless Senator puts some in.

But in other cases Senator has to spend all the money, and those are the films they cannot release at all without outside help.

Earlier in the week they said they could release some of the smaller films that don't require much P&A but that was before they shut down the distribution arm.
