Now we're under a Winter Storm Watch for Thursday into Friday morning.
Except this time it's for the possibility of Rain/ Freezing Rain. WGN said anywhere from 1/4" to 3/4" of freezing rain is possible.
It's not even winter yet, and I loathe this winter already. Too damn cold, too early. Crappy snow/freezing rain.
I just hop this one goes more North or falls apart.
So, we've had the biggest snow so far. I would say around 4 inches
It hit during rush hour yesterday, and the expressways were dreadful. On the weather channel they said the speed of travel went down to 9 MPH on one of them.
Looks like we'll have a white Christmas this year for sure. No thaw is in the cards for a while according to the forecasts.
^ Step Brothers
Is that right?
If not, then my second guess is Talladega Nights.
Olivia Wilde (Fox's "House," pictured left) and Beau Garrett (pictured down right), who appeared together in Turistas, are the first to sign on for Tron 2.0, the sequel to the 1982 Disney cult classic being directed by Joseph Kosinski.
Sean Bailey is producing along with Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film, and Jeff Silver.
The original, about a programmer thrust into a computer and forced to fight in games he helped create, is remembered for its sci-fi gladiator-style battles and groundbreaking special effects.
The new movie is acting as a "next chapter." Plot details are being guarded closely, but Wilde will play a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program, the villainous intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the original film.
Garrett will play a siren in the virtual world.
The male lead has not been cast, but the studio and filmmakers are screen-testing actors as it brings on other leads and supporting players.
Tron 2.0 is eyeing a spring shoot.

I was just wondering something.
How did you guys first get to know Chris personally?
Was it because of this site or some inside connections?
Bought this on Sunday at Best Buy.
According to Amazon.com the case version is now out of print. They are selling it without the Mach 5 metal case now.
I really only bought it for the case.
I watched this and Hancock this weekend.
I really liked both of them.
I know I may be in the minority, but I liked both of these more than The Dark Knight. RDJ was very good, as was Jeff Bridges. Terrific visual effects, and great action sequences.
As for Hancock, like I said I also liked it too. It begins a little weird with Hancock being drunk and all, but once he actually starts being a 'hero' it gets really good. Again, terrific visual effects, perhaps better than in Iron Man. Will Smith is very good. The surprise for me was how good Jason Bateman was. Last thing I ever saw him in was The Hogan Family, so it's been a while. Nope never watched Arrested Development. I didn't mind the twist between Hancock and Bateman's wife.
So it's predicted to be around 55 degrees today. But a big cold front is coming through tonight, which will lower tomorrow's (Monday's) high to only 19 degrees.
Going to get a wintry mix tonight and then around an inch of snow tomorrow.
Well at least we're not getting the blizzard like Minnesota and other northern states are getting this weekend. Plus their temps are going down to around -29. Which with 40 MPH winds, the wind chills must be brutally cold up there.
Anyways, planing on going out this morning to Best Buy to buy the Speed Racer collection for $19.99. Really buying it just for the case. Already own the entire series on dvd, but I've already seen amazon.com selling it without the case.
Bought the Star Trek II: Reliant Hallmark Ornament today.
I don't know if this pic will show up.
If not, here is a link to see it. Just scroll down.

Bought all of these today. Little Christmas shopping for myself.
from Target, same thing as this one.
Went to the closing sale at Circuit City.
Bought these. 40% off.

Robert Prosky, a character actor with hundreds of credits on stage and screen including "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Hill Street Blues," has died in a Washington hospital. He was 77.
His oldest son, Stefan Prosky, said the actor died Monday night of complications from a heart procedure.
"He went gracefully last night, not in pain," Stefan Prosky said Tuesday. "Everybody knows him as a fairly famous actor. My brothers and I know him as a marvelous father."
Prosky appeared in more than 200 plays on Broadway and with Arena Stage, a regional theater company in Washington. He appeared in 38 films and numerous television shows.
A native of Philadelphia, Prosky studied economics at Temple University and served in the U.S. Air Force.
On Broadway, Prosky's credits included "Glengarry Glen Ross" and "A View from the Bridge." He also completed a long run in Michael Frayn's play "Democracy."
More recently, Prosky appeared with two of his sons in Arthur Miller's play, "The Price," in Philadelphia. He planned to continue in a San Diego production of "The Price" this winter, Stefan Prosky said.
In the 1980s, Prosky spent three years on the NBC television series "Hill Street Blues" as a police sergeant. He later appeared as a priest on trial for murder in ABC's legal drama, "The Practice."
In "Mrs. Doubtfire," Prosky played the TV station owner who hired Robin Williams, who dressed as a nanny. His other film credits include "Dead Man Walking" and "The Natural."
Prosky spent most of his life in Washington and raised his three sons in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Nearby Arena Stage was close to his heart. He spent 22 years affiliated with the theater and a small company of players, appearing in more than 120 plays.
"Arena Stage is where I learned to be an actor," Prosky told The Associated Press in 2006.
Arena co-founder Zelda Fichandler said she has lost a part of her family.
"I don't know of another American actor who has played in so many plays in so many styles in so many places in so many roles, and played them all to the hilt," she said in a statement.
Prosky is survived by his wife, Ida Prosky, and three sons, Stefan Prosky of Washington, John Prosky of North Hollywood, Calif., and Andrew Prosky of New York. Funeral arrangements were incomplete.
Instead of flowers, the family is asking for donations to The Actors Fund or for people to "just go see a play," Stefan Prosky said.
Just in case anyone is wondering how it's doing on dvd/blu-ray, it's doing very well to say the least.
Over 600,000 Blu-ray copies and three million DVD copies of "The Dark Knight" have sold in the film's first day of release reports Deadline Hollywood Daily.
The previous Blu-ray record holder was "Iron Man" which took a week to sell 400,000 copies. Over seven million regular DVD copies of the film are expected to be sold by week's end.
To give you a comparison the bestselling DVD of last year was "Transformers" which sold nearly fourteen million units over the space of around twelve weeks. "Finding Nemo" is the best selling DVD of all time with 30 million copies sold as of last year.
Majel Barrett-Roddenberry Returns to Star Trek
Source: Variety
December 10, 2008Variety reports that Majel Barrett-Roddenberry will reprise her role as the voice of the Starship Enterprise computer in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek feature. She's voiced the role in four "Star Trek" TV series and three films.
Opening on May 8th, the Paramount release stars John Cho, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Eric Bana, Leonard Nimoy, Marlene Forte and Jimmy Bennett.
It was written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

I've always liked her. Especially as Lwaxanna Troi on Next Generation. Glad to see her back in the world of Star Trek, even if it's just the voice of the Enterprise computer.
You know how on the 2 disc special edition has the digital copy? Does that mean it has 3 discs then? Or does it have the movie and bonus features on one disc and then the 2nd disc is the digital copy then it equals to 2 discs? I don't know why I'm so confused!
On the version I have this is how it's broken down.
Disc 1: Movie only
Disc 2: Digital Copy and a few Bonus Features.
Disc 3: 1 Exclusive Featurette
On the regular 2 disc set, it's just the first 2 discs.
Here is the back cover of the 2 disc set.
If you buy the 1 disc edition, you get no extras whatsoever.
As with Transformers a year ago, some people collect just about every dvd edition out there.
For example, here is what one guy bought of the Dark Knight dvd releases.
For me, I pick the edition I want the most and buy that. I can't see about owning every exclusive edition. But it's their money.
http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/s … ris-weitz/
Yes, he's had tremendous success working with tweens and teens (About A Boy as director and writer, American Pie as producer and uncredited director). But Chris Weitz also did The Golden Compass (as writer and director), and my source says Summit Entertainment liked the look of that even if it didn't heat up the domestic box office (but did better overseas). I don't have official confirmation yet that this Twilight sequel offer has gone out to Weitz. But my insider says another reason it came down is because Weitz and Summit's president of production Eric Feig are longtime pals. The source tells me Weitz is "still considering" the offer to helm New Moon and possibly also Eclipse if the sequel and threequel movie adaptations of Stephenie Meyer's series of vampire books are made back-to-back. But let's also not forget Weitz's behavior on Golden Compass. On December 15, 2004, Weitz announced his resignation as director of the trilogy, citing the enormous technical challenges of the epic and later admitting he was worried about dissing by the book's fans. After another helmer came on and then walked off, Weitz returned to direct saying he'd done "a lot of growing in the interim". Despite all that, Summit seems willing to put its first valuable franchise in his hands. Not so with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke who's off the sequel for a whole host of reasons I reported that fall under the "difficult" category. Sexism, anyone?
Just watched it.
Heath was very good. As was Eckhart.
It was kind of slow at first. I think it didn't start getting good until the entire Joker chasing after Dent in the armored truck. I did think that the destruction of the Batmobile/Tumbler was a mistake. I didn't really like the Batpod/bike that much. Just too weak looking. But I've never been a fan of bikes anyways.
I think the best sequences was the above mentioned Joker chasing Dent in the armored truck, the blowing up of the hospital.
I will say it's not really that much of an action film, if anything it's more of a psychological drama.
I will say the ending was somewhat of a letdown though to me. The Joker didn't get killed, Dent gets killed and Batman becomes a wanted man.
I think if it wasn't for Heath's performance that overall it's a slight disappointment to me. The basic story was just kind of, I don't know --meh!! The only thing that saved the movie for me was Heath. I was looking for an action packed film, but the action wasn't really that exciting to me.
I think I like Batman Begins better.
I don't know if it was all of the hype, but I was expecting a much better film.
I think I would rate it a B-/ borderline C+.
Bought The Dark Knight from Target today.
FYI: It actually has 3 discs. 2 Inside the case, the other inside a paper sleeve.
Here is a pic of the Blu-Ray version, the regular dvd case is the same. Except it doesn't have the Blu-Ray logo of course.
All the local news channels are reporting that our Governor was taken into Federal custody this morning.
Likely the charges will be announced later today.
This is the second Governor in a row that has been arrested, first was Ryan.
On a side note, I really wish that Chicago mayor Daly would be arrested. Even though he's a Democratic, I can't stand him. He closed up Meig's Field in Chicago with no notice and did so in the middle of the night. Basically he had people go in at night and ripped up the runways. The FAA fined Chicago for doing so, and of course the tax-payers paid that.
I actually like the Governor.

Paramount Drops 3 Major Producer Deals
EXCLUSIVE: I'm told that so far Double Feature Films, Scott Aversano and Kevin Misher won't have their production deals renewed at Paramount because of the draconian cost-cutting there. "The studio will no longer be providing overhead on a continuing basis on these," an insider tells me. Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher started Double Feature when they left DeVito's Jersey Films at Universal. So these were the people that made Erin Brockovich, Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty. For Paramount, they did Freedom Writers and World Trade Center. ("They have amazing taste. They deserve protection," one of my sources noted.) Double Feature had been exploring equity financing for movies that the studios don't want to make or fund fully, yet Shamberg recently acknowledged that "a strong studio relationship just makes life easier for movies we like to do. [But] nobody can survive just using a studio deal these days."
Scott Aversano made an overall producing deal with Paramount after exiting as president of the Nickelodeon and MTV Films labels. (Where he decided not to purchase Twilight when no studio picked it up after Brad Weston put it in turnaround in January 2006. Aversano was Paramount's one last shot at it in mid-2007 when the rights were going to expire... But I think both guys weren't wrong: this was a 1 1/2 quadrant pic about a tired subject based on a popular book series that's still no guarantee of a hit movie. Whereas a start-up mini-major would roll the dice.) Aversano has had a long relationship with Paramount since before that he worked for Scott Rudin on the lot for seven years including as president of production at Scott Rudin Prods.
Kevin Misher made his 3-year, first-look producing deal in 2005 just four months after Brad Grey took over as Paramount's chairman so it was about to expire. "I am tremendously excited about working with Paramount's dynamic new management team during this important evolution in the studio's history," Misher said at the time.
True, it may only seem as if Paramount's production deals will soon consist of only Brad Pitt's Plan B and J.J. Abrams/Bryan Burk's Bad Robot. But still being carried, for now, are Blue Shirt (Karey Kirkpatrick), Di Bonaventura (Lorenzo di Bonaventura), Dickhouse (Spike Jonze, Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine), Evans (Robert Evans, only because he's a longtime pal of Sumner Redstone's), Gary Sanchez (Will Ferrell, Adam McKay), Important (Matt Stone, Trey Parker), Michaels/Goldwyn (Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn), Christine Peters (a longtime galpal of Redstone's), Rat (Brett Ratner), Ripcord (Mike White), and Sikelia (Marty Scorsese).
Universal Won't Renew Kennedy/Marshall
This comes as something of a surprise since Kathleen Kennedy's and Frank Marshall's production company has been a fixture at Universal and they're marquee names. But that was before all the cost-cutting with studios under pressure to reshape their term deals. I'm hearing Kennedy/Marshall may land at DreamWorks 2.0 before too long. Makes sense because of their long relationship with Steven Spielberg. Universal also isn't renewing director Darren Aronfsky, even though The Wrestler is Oscar touted. Then again, he's not exactly a commercial helmer.
Marc Shmuger and David Linde Break Bad News To Universal: 70 Layoffs Worldwide
I understand that NBC Universal will be making about 500 staff reductions overall, and Universal Pictures' 3% reduction amounts to 70 layoffs worldwide (including Focus Features). Affected personnel will be notified over the next few days:
Brad Grey Breaks Bad News At Paramount
PREVIOUS: Philippe Dauman and Tom Dooley Announce 7% Reduction At Viacom
To: All Employees
Date: December 4, 2008
From: Brad GreyDear Colleagues:
By now, you all have seen the email from Philippe Dauman and Tom Dooley regarding Viacom's cost-saving initiatives, which are designed to better position the Company in this difficult economic climate. Like all other divisions of the Company, Paramount too is adapting to the changing conditions and, as a result, we will reduce our global workforce.
These reductions are across the studio: accounting, business/legal affairs, corporate and government affairs, home entertainment, human resources, information technology, production, studio lot operations and Vantage. The vast majority of affected employees will be notified today in the United States and in the coming days internationally. We wish them the best, and thank them for their many contributions to Paramount.
Without question, the changes we implement today required us to make difficult choices. We take these steps after a careful analysis of our overall business and as part of a broader strategy to overcome the challenges of this unusual time in the market and to chart a successful course for the future.
As we look ahead, we are encouraged by the strength of our slate, the quality of our creative partners, the innovation we see on the lot every day and the projects we have in development. These assets, coupled with your talent and hard work, I believe will enable us to remain strong over the long term.
Philippe Dauman and Tom Dooley Announce 7% Reduction At Viacom
UPDATE: Brad Grey Breaks Bad News At Paramount
Dear Colleagues:
With less than a month until the close of 2008, our entire organization continues to do everything possible to anticipate and adapt to the unprecedented changes affecting all our businesses. We know it hasn't been easy and we couldn't be more proud or more appreciative of how you have risen to the challenge.
Even in these tough economic times, Viacom has a strong hand to play. We have a broad stable of outstanding brands, diverse revenue streams and an impressive global footprint, backed up by exceptional financial strength. Added to that we have talented employees, extremely able leaders and a creative ingenuity that runs deep.
Unfortunately, our advantages and best efforts can't completely protect Viacom from the very serious and broad-based challenges of this economic recession. Viacom's long-term health will depend on our shared commitment to adapt, to innovate and to make difficult choices. To compete and thrive, we need to create an organization and a cost structure that are in step with the evolving economic environment.
Today, we are announcing a company-wide restructuring plan that includes staffing reductions in all divisions. This will result in a reduction of our worldwide workforce of approximately 7 percent, or about 850 positions. We are also suspending salary increases for the Company's senior level management in 2009. In addition, after a comprehensive review of our operations, we will write down certain programming and other assets. These three actions will bring us significant cost savings and other efficiencies.
Top managers at every part of the company worked thoughtfully, carefully and compassionately to create a leaner, more focused organization. It was not an easy task, but it was an essential step that will keep Viacom at the competitive forefront today and tomorrow. Department heads and supervisors will provide you with more information about the changes that will be taking place in your division.
Saying goodbye to friends and colleagues is always difficult, particularly when we have shared so much. Those of you who will be leaving should be proud of your contributions, which we will always respect and appreciate. We thank you and we wish you the best.
The true measure of an organization is how it deals with change and overcomes challenges. We know that you are up to the task and that together we will push through the difficulties ahead and go on to even greater achievements.
We truly appreciate your continued commitment and hard work and we thank you for everything you do each day.
NBC Universal Plans Hundreds Of Layoffs; Forcing Execs To Fly Coach To Super Bowl
UPDATE: I hear the layoff announcements could come as soon as Thursday...
Another hour, another source telling me about layoffs and cutbacks. I've already told you about Viacom's and CBS Inc's. And at Disney/ABC, don't dare include alcohol in your expense account meal. Now hundreds of layoffs are planned at NBC Universal. In the meantime, NBC has issued new draconian network and studio budget parameters, a second wave of cost-cutting following up on Jeff Zucker's promise a month ago to tighten belts across the board. Staff inside the company are outraged at these new measures, after already being told two weeks ago to cut their travel and entertainment spending as much as possible. "Staff under Zucker and Silverman feel like a hatchet was used when a scalpel was needed," one source tells me. As of today:
-- No staff is allowed to have personal printers. Printers in individual offices are being removed to save on toner and paper. All printing will be done from a central location for each department.
-- Each week Jeff Zucker in conjunction with Human Resources will be reviewing overtime charged by assistants, permanent and temporary.
-- Everyone including department and division heads must drop a class when traveling. No exceptions. For the Super Bowl in Tampa, all executives attending are to travel coach.
-- Six-month freeze on office supply spending.
-- Federal Express: No "priority" service or Saturday delivery permitted.

Layoffs, Layoffs & More Viacom Layoffs
They're just around the corner, with 100 personnel at Paramount and 300 staffers at MTV to be fired. (See my previous, MTV Networks Hiding News Of Layoffs)
That's just the December headlines.
I've read where the studios are laying off lots of people due to the economy.
On a side note, there are rumors that the Tribune Co. (which own the Cubs & WGN) may file for Bankruptcy very soon.
Well that's the official reason.
According to this site, here is the reason.
UPDATE: Summit Entertainment Co-Chairman/CEO Rob Friedman just phoned me to add: "Catherine and Summit have agreed to part ways on the sequel because our visions are different." The start-up studio's hastily prepared statement (below) notes: "Summit's targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, New Moon, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke's required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen."
EXCLUSIVE: So the rumors are true. I've confirmed that Summit Entertainment has rejected Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke from heming the sequel in this big new franchise. No doubt my news will speed up the studio's announcement, and Summit will surely spin this as all going down amicably along the lines that "she couldn't fit the film into her time frame". (Summit does want a ridiculously speeded-up sked for the next installment.) But this terrible news for Hardwicke comes just as she and the Twilight cast are on their European press tour. Tomorrow's interviews in France will now focus entirely on what, if anything, Catherine did to deserve this treatment.
This also could blow up into a scandal for Summit if it chooses a male director over Hardwicke, whose Twilight easily beat Mimi Leder's 1998 Deep Impact box office gross as the biggest opener for a female director. That was a record embraced by Hollywood feminists as a sign of growing gal power. ["To think that the people at Summit are sexist is insulting," an insider there replies to me.] This wasn't a good weekend for female film directors because Lexi Alexander's Punisher: War Zone bombed, earning less than half what Hollywood thought it would. As to whether Hardwicke's career will be damaged by this very public firing is up for grabs because, even though the pic was skewered by critics, it is already a $160M low-cost blockbuster. Summit has started preparing the sequel New Moon, based on Meyer's second book in the series, and, to contain costs, the studio is considering making third book Eclipse back to back.
The word from inside Summit is that Hardwicke, the acclaimed Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown and The Nativity Story director, "was 'difficult' and 'irrational' during the making of Twilight," one insider explains to me. "That doesn't mean anything when you're talking about a filmmaker because they all are, but still..." (Joe Roth and Sony kept saying that about Julie Taymor on Across The Universe. Yet she made a cult classic and is now directing Marvel/Sony's Spider-Man for Broadway.) But an outside source also informs me, "Summit didn't like her. They're saying the DP [director of photography] Elliot Davis is the one responsible for the film's sumptuous visual look, that the editor Nancy Richardson had to save the film in post-production, and Summit thought Hardwicke's [CAA] agent Beth Swofford was alternately ineffectual and hysterical. It certainly demonstrates, while CAA agents boast of their vast influence, how little clout and muscle they actually have, or are willing to use, to protect their artists."
I'm told that the studio has even had quiet talks with other CAA directors for the last week. "And Swofford never told Hardwicke about that and that she was about to get kicked to the gutter," an insider tells me. "To add insult to injury, Hardwicke can now look forward to being grilled by the press for days on end, in front of the cast, about why she's getting shit-canned." Adds another source: "Catherine is the consummate professional so she's continuing the press tour."
Just great.
