I'm actually kinda glad that I'm not living in the US, where I'd probably have to put up with a week of seeing Mr. Jackson's face on every TV channel at regular intervals.

You ought to try living in LA. It's local news here, so there is even more coverage. Plus there will be who knows how many messes created by the hoopla.
That's usually how I come up with new names
Okay, John Candy was in The Great Outdoors with Annette Benning
who was in The Seige with Tony Shaloub
who was in The Tic Code with...
Vin Deisel
Anne Bancroft was in The Turning Point with Tom Skerritt
who was in M*A*S*H with Donald Sutherland
who was in American Gun with...
Micheal Jackson
Guy Pearce was in LA Confidential with Russell Crowe
who was in The Quick and thge Dead with Sharon Stone
who was in Alpha Dog with...
Farrah Fawcett
Are you trying to use Julie Andrews?
Seems okay to me
This is a crazy idea. It definately is to increase viewership of the show, by trying to get more popular movies nominated. But they probably won't get the result they want. They mentioned in the press release that it was to make room for movies like last years The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Wall-E, and Tropic Thunder.
That is crazy. If there had been 10 nominees last year, yes The Dark Knight probably would have been nominated and maybe Wall-E. But there is no way that Iron Man and Tropic Thunder would have been nominated. (and I really liked Iron Man) If they have 10 nominees, it is just as likely that they will just nominate 10 small movies that the general public hasn't heard of. The Academy's taste isn't going to suddenly change. As long as the concept that a film must be "important" to be a Best Picture nominee is in the minds of the Academy voters, then the list of nominees will continue to look the same.
And for the record, I am not a basher of their nominees. I actually thought Slumdog Millionaire was the best movie I saw last year.
As I have said somewhere before I'm not very interested in most of the reboots, sequels etc. So, I too have no interest in the Transformer movie (I didn't even like the first one) although for different reasons than Deb. I do want to see Sunshine Cleaning and maybe Away We Go.
Fred Thompson was in Barbarians at the Gate with James Garner
who was in Space Cowboys with Marcia Gay Harden
who was in the Invisible with...
Rex Harrison
Joe Spinell was in The Godfather part 2 with Bruno Kirby
who was in City Slickers with Billy Crystal
who was in the Princess Bride with Carol Kane
who was in The Tic Code with...
Robert Mitchem
I can love a big stupid action movie, and often do. But there still needs to be interesting or fun characters. That is why Die Hard is good and Transformers wasn't. I honestly think Cameron hasn't made a good movie since Aliens.
Mark Harmon was in Summer School with Kirstie Alley
who was in Look wsho's talking with the voice of Bruce Willis (I know a cheat but I was having trouble)
who was in Alpha Dog with...
slim Pickens
Rick Moranis was in Parenthood with Mary Steenbergen
who was in JOA with...
Linda Hamilton
FYI Jeff Goldblum and Debra Winger were 2 of the leads in Thank God it's Friday. And I remembered them from that movie when they became famous later (showing my age again)
Zach Galifianakis was in The Hangover (damned funny movie) with Heather Graham
who was in Diggstown with James Woods
who was in THe specialist with Sharon Stone
who was in Alpha Dog with....
Cicely Tyson
FYI Deb, Arac Attack was called Eight Legged Freaks in the US. I remember it, but I didn't see it.
it seems Fanboys may be showing it a few places in late July. http://insomniaccinema.com/soon/insom_soon.htm
Well. if anyone is in South Korea, it is showing at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival. I don't think I'll be able to make it.
Probably true about Hallmark. The weird thing is that the HBO and Showtime movies don't feel like the old great TV movies did. The HBO and showtime movies feel like good low budget features. There was something different (and often great) about those TV movies from the late 60s to the late 80s. I can't quite define what it was, but they felt different.
I saw Tribes on cable the other night. I had never seen it before, and it was pretty good, in that old TV movie way.
I completely agree. I miss them too. although the Hallmark hall of fame movies are still made, they are just on the Hallmark channel now.
Marcus Chong was in The Matrix with Lawrence Fishburn
who was in Searching for Bobby Fischer with Joe Mantegna
who was in JOA with...
Donna Summer
My guess is that this is the last we will see of it on scifi channel. these last 2 "marathons" had the feel of "we paid for these so we are going to run them". A midweek non-holiday marathon is not how you treat a show you have much faith in. Hopefully another network with a more appropriate group of watchers will pick it up.
Giancarlo Giannini was in Casino Royale with Daniel Craig (you thought I was going to use seven Beauties?)
who was in Road to Perdition with Tom Hanks
who was in Philadelphia with Mary Steenergen
who was in JOA with...
Julia Ormand
There are a lot of egos on the line. That is what is driving the lawsuits, ( and to some extent the long time to reach an agreement).
The industry is changing, but I don't think you all realize where it really may be going. There is a very real (still small but real) chance that the internet may end all original production as we know it. If there is no way to make serious money from the internet, and everything ends up there, it would make more sense to quit producing new products, and instead just use the huge libraries of material they already have to generate revenue. Those annoying commercials are what pays for the shows we all love. The advertising on the internet is nothing by comparison. And if DVDs die out, there goes the other real source of profit for the TV shows and movies. And believe me, if they can't make money, they will stop producing stuff. That is why SAG, DGA, and WGA are trying to get residuals from the internet. If that is all that is left, they want to have a revenue stream in place.
This would also affect Movies and Pay Cable stuff as well, less sources of revenue will hurt them as well.
Sorry to be a downer, but this could be real, and believe me, we take it seriously here.
Peter Falk was in the Princess Bride with Carol Kane
who was in the Tic Code with...
Bud Cort
Raymond Burr was in A place in the Sun with Elizabeth Taylor
who was in Father of the Bride with Russ Tamblyn
who was in JOA with..
Illeana Douglas
It's her. Here is a picture on IMDB of Sam at the premier of Superman Returns with what would seem to be his wife, and it is the same woman. www.imdb.com/media/rm3058473728/nm0403134
