Today more details emerged about the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release for JJ Abrams Star Trek movie. Confirming our earlier reports, Paramount has announced there will be three home video sets for Star Trek (2 DVD sets & 1 Blu-ray). All three will be released on November 17th. These releases will include some interesting high-tech features — details below.
Star Trek's High-Tech Home Video Release
On November 17th, 2009 JJ Abrams Star Trek movie comes home. There will be three different home video releases:
* 1-disk DVD
* 2-disk DVD
* 3-disk Blu-ray
The 2-disk DVD and Blu-ray sets will feature a home video first with "augmented reality" packaging. Using a webcam, you can hold your packaging up to your computer and reveal a 3-D holographic tour of the new USS Enterprise. In May, an early version of this was used to promote the theatrical release of the film by Paramount International (at experience-the-enterprise.com – see video below).
Another high tech feature for the 2-disk DVD set and the Blu-ray set is providing a digital copy of the film, which you can load onto a computer or mobile device. So far Paramount has only done this for one other film (Love Guru). You can visit paramountdigitalcopy.com to learn more about how this feature works.
More details coming soon
Paramount Home Video will soon be announcing more details on the Star Trek DVD and Blu-ray sets, so look for an update from TrekMovie.com when that becomes available. You can see our previous story for early details on the Blu-ray special features, which TrekMovie has confirmed is very close to the final version.

A little later than I expected, but just in time for people to buy it right before Thanksgiving.
The 3-D Enterprise sounds cool, too bad I don't have a webcam.
I'm going to buy the 2-Disc DVD set.
If I owned Blu-Ray I would get it on that format.
They renamed the Sears Tower. It's now the Willis Tower.
It's always going to be known as the Sears Tower.

So that's 3 Emmy nominations for him.
I have no clue what show that is. Must be on pay cable or something.
Also Family Guy was nominated for Best Comedy Series. WGN's Dean Richards said it's the first time for an animated series The Flintstones.
Speaking of Nick, does he even post on the Alpha Dog board anymore?
Perhaps I'm being cynical here, but it just seems that he hypes his current movie and then moves on. I see that he's been posting on the Sister's Keeper IMDB board quite a bit. I bet that once that movie runs his course, he'll stop posting there as well and move on to whatever his next movie is.
I don't know what to think of him overall. I mean back when he was posting on the AD board all the time I actually got the feeling that he cared about the movie and the actual victim. But since he hasn't even posted on their in a serious way for quite awhile, it just seems he was on there to hype up interest in the movie and that he just has lost complete interest in not only the movie but the actual people it's based upon.
Yeah, I know that it's all about the money and all, after all it is Show "Business". But I thought he was different.
Even today there are people who are just discovering the movie and have questions about it and the actual case. Some of these questions can only be answered by Nick. But since he doesn't even post on the AD board anymore, these questions either get unanswered or answered by others. Usually be Deb, even though she's good, only Nick can really answer them from his own point of view.
About the only thing I can think of is that perhaps there was some sort of gag rule put into effect because of the trial and that prevented him from answering any questions about the movie. But now that it's over, I wonder if he'll come back to the IMDB AD board at all. If not, then what I posted above still holds true for me.
Sorry, just had to post my thoughts on Nick.
At least he didn't get off, like I bet he and his father thought he would.
I wonder why they don't go after his father. Perhaps not enough evidence to get a conviction. Regardless, I think his father is guilty to some degree in connection with the entire thing. At least in helping him get out of the country.
But, overall it's good news for Nicks family who can now have some sort of closure.
Jesse James Hollywood gets life sentence in Santa Barbara murder
Convicted killer Jesse James Hollywood has been spared the death penalty by the Santa Barbara jury that found him guilty last week of first-degree murder and kidnapping. He will spend his life in prison.
The jury concluded that Hollywood, 29, ordered the execution of a 15-year-old West Hills boy after snatching him off the street near his home and driving him to Santa Barbara. A marijuana dealer at the time, Hollywood kidnapped Nicholas Markowitz to avenge a $1,200 drug debt owed by the boy's older half-brother, Ben.
Defense attorneys contended that Ben Markowtiz had been threatening Hollywood's life for months and had poisoned his dog before Hollywood impusively picked the boy up. They claimed the killing was done independently by friends of Hollywood who wanted to earn his approval.
The trial, which started May 15, was attended every day by members of the Markowitz and Hollywood families.
The crime was notorious when it was committed in 2000 and became the basis for the 2006 film "Alpha Dog.''
The last of four men convicted in the case, Hollywood fled after the crime and was arrested in Brazil in 2005.
I found a very short clip from the movie online. Towards the end is a few seconds of Chris walking down a corridor with other men. It's mostly of Dwayne Johnson breaking into a lab.
Here is the link to download the clip.

I had to take a double take of that one pic posted in that review.
At first all I saw was a guy carrying someone in a cocoon out of a garage.
Then I noticed that he had insect legs.
Oh yeah!!
Illinois is going to raise the license plate fee by $20 up to $98 a year.
Driver's License from $10 to $30.
Plus they want to raise fees/taxes on candy, bottled tea, shampoo, income tax and other things.
I got my three Kellogg's Star Trek plates in the mail today.
So cute.
When the plate is moved the Enterprise moves towards you.
Kyle Rankin says he's always liked the horror/comedy combination.
"I think that being scared and laughing are very closely linked," Rankin said.
Rankin, a York native and graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, wrote and directed "Infestation," a post-apocalyptic horror/comedy which debuts at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Waterville Opera House as part of the Maine International Film Festival. The film will also be shown at 8:30 p.m. on July 16 at the Skowhegan Drive-In.
"Infestation" tells the story of a man named Cooper (Chris Marquette) who wakes up in a cocoon in a world taken over by large bugs. Cooper helps other survivors out of their cocoons to battle the bugs on his way to safety.
"I kind of made it for the 14-year-old boy who lives inside of me," Rankin said.
The film had a budget of less than $5 million, and was financed by Icon Productions, a company founded by Mel Gibson in 1989.
"They've done 'Braveheart,' and 'Passion of the Christ,'" Rankin said. "I thought they just did Oscar-worthy films. When I got the phone call telling me they were doing it, I was like, 'What? Really? Mel Gibson's Icon?'"
The bugs in the movie were the creation of Rankin's friend Efram Potelle, a Fairfield native who also has a role in the film. Rankin said that process took more than a year, while the filming of the movie covered three months and a total of 31 days of shooting.
"(Efram) was in charge of bringing the bugs to life," Rankin said. "He's very talented with digital effects. He kind of ran the team."
The movie was filmed in Bulgaria, in part because the American dollar was strong there at the time. Rankin said "Infestation" is not quite as dark -- both literally and figuratively -- as other recent horror films. There's the comedy aspect and a romance element, and Rankin said much of the film takes place during the day because "I got tired of going to horror films and not being able to see what the hell was going on."
Marquette, 24, had roles in "Joan of Arcadia" and "Strong Medicine." Brooke Nevin, who plays Sara, the female lead, has appeared in "Grey's Anatomy" and "The 4400."
"I think both Brooke and Chris are going to have long careers," Rankin said. "I hope to work with either one of them again."
Ray Wise, who plays The Devil in the TV series "Reaper," plays Cooper's father in the film. Wise has been in shows such as "24," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "The West Wing," and "Twin Peaks."
Wise and Rankin first worked together on Rankin's 1999 short film, "Pennyweight."
"He's a great guy," Rankin said. "I've tried to put him in everything I've done since then."
Rankin, who will be at the film's premiere on Saturday, said his next project is a comedy called "Campus Security." He said screening and pre-production could begin as early as next month.
I can see two reason why your post could have been deleted.
1. he sat around jerkin' it
Sexual overtones that may be offensive to some.
2. And Ice Cube now wants to kill his entire family. It's a Durst/Cube feud that will probably end in double murder, like Tupac and Biggie.
While likely posted as a joke, it does contain libel in saying that Ice Cube wants to kill people.
I'm not taking sides, but as I said I can see why it got reported and thus deleted.
Regarding IMDB trolls.
I don't respond to those that either make fun of a movies title or someones name, but they think it's somehow a put down. Or call all who like something a certain group name.
Such as on the Star Trek board, there is a user who calls the new movie Star Dreck. And that all that liked it he calls "Dreckers".
And of course making fun of an actors name, such as for Justin Timberlake. Some will call him Timberpuss, Timberflake or similar names.
Again, they think it's a clever put down. But I just see it as a sorry look for attention and very immature.
I watched Push today.
It's an ok action film with supernatural aspects. But it's also needlessly complicated and confusing. The ones that screams to kill people (called Bleeders) are just annoying as hell.
Of the two, Knowing & Push, Knowing is the better film.
Well, his voice is fine to me. But, they could always alter his voice electronically so that's really not a big deal.
They already done that to one of films already.
Years ago he did a film called Edison. A friend made me a copy from a non-U.S. country and his voice was somewhat high pitched.
Months later, Sony released the official U.S. dvd and his voice was electronically altered to a more "manly" level. Plus the Sony release is edited very differently and even adds a few new scenes than the original cut.
And who knows anyway, perhaps even with an unaltered voice it still could have worked since the character wears tights. And we all know what that can do to a man's voice.
Well, the Green Lantern role went to Reynolds.
That's ok, but I'm starting to think that Reynolds may be starting to get typecasted for action roles. He was in Blade Trinity, X-Men: Wolverine, the Deadpool spin-off and now Green Lantern.
Actually of the three finalist, I was hoping that JT would have gotten the role. He's proven to be a good actor, both in dramas such as Alpha Dog, Black Snake Moan & Southland Tales as well as comedies such as The Love Guru and his many times hosting SNL. He's physically fit enough to be in a super-hero type of role.
Who knows though, even though he didn't get this role perhaps him being mentioned as one of the finalist may open new doors for him in the near future.

Warner Bros. is about to decide who will wear the super-powered ring in "Green Lantern," the studio's latest DC Comics movie, and the race has narrowed to Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake.
Along with director Martin Campbell and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti, the studio has spent the past five months searching for the actor to play Hal Jordan, the hot-shot Air Force pilot who is chosen by a dying alien to be his successor in an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lanterns.
The clock is ticking on the decision. The holding deal the studio had on the actors expired Monday, meaning that the three are now free to accept other offers.
The studio ordered up two rounds of screen tests with Cooper, Reynolds and Timberlake. Other actors in the early mix included Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill and Jared Leto.
Apparently De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the three finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.
Another issue affecting the casting process is the rising budget. "Lantern" is a full-blown space epic that is expected to cost between $150 million and $200 million, if not more. Warners would like to have the production costs at a reasonable level before proceeding.
The studio has scheduled the movie for a December 2010 opening.
Cooper is feeling a lot of love from Warners; he's one of the stars of the studio's surprise comedy hit, "The Hangover," which has grossed $210 million domestically.
Reynolds recently starred in a comic-book movie, Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," in which he played "Merc with a Mouth" Deadpool. The character is now being developed for a spinoff in which Reynolds will star. The actor also stars in the romantic comedy "The Proposal."
Timberlake has been steadily building an acting resume, appearing in such dramas as "Alpha Dog" and "Black Snake Moan" while showcasing his comedy chops with appearances on "Saturday Night Live."
Actually the only disaster that he actively tried to stop was the subway crash. The airplane crash he really just happened to be there. The final disaster was way beyond his control to do anything about, all he really tried to do was get to a certain location but he really didn't know why.
Really the only disaster that was graphic was the airplane crash, that was shocking. But the subway crash really wasn't and the final one was a big city getting destroyed. Nothing really made me cry at all.
It was somewhat confusing as to whom these strangers at first. Were they ghosts or angels, but that one scene when Cage runs up to one of them in the dark and where the light comes from the stranger I knew right there what they were and where the story was going to go from there.
I don't really think it's a thriller at all, it's really just a puzzle that fits into a standard disaster movie.
It's also not a big deal that it doesn't end on a happy note, When Worlds Collide end basically the same way. Even with today's standard disaster movie there are thousands or millions of people that get killed in the film, not really a big deal that there is some sort of a reunion or happy ending in disaster movies either. Even this movie has a somewhat happy ending with the last shot of the chosen landing on the new planet and knowing that the species will continue.
Again, I don't hate the movie, not do I love it. It's a good movie, but just sort of average. Kind of like once I saw it, it seems like I seen it all before - which I did when so many elements were borrowed from When Worlds Collides.
Watched Knowing.
To put it simply it reminds me of When Worlds Collide (Solar Flare instead of a planet) and a cross between that and Close Encounters.
Spoilers, so don't read below.
***SPOILERS***
There are many similarities between the two films.
1st. A few are chosen to survive. WWC is by lottery, Knowing is chosen by the aliens.
2nd. In both life on Earth is destroyed and scenes of cities being destroyed are shown.
3rd. The chosen leave the Earth before it's destruction by ship.
4th. The chosen land on another planet in an attempt to continue the species.
I'm sure there are more that I missed.

Overall a good film, but the tv spots were somewhat misleading. The TV Spots led me to believe that he found these numbers and discovered the link to disasters. And that he was going to stop future disasters from happening.
It's a good movie, but just average. C+.
Bought these today from Walmart.
First, Walmart has an exclusive double pack of Knowing & Push. However, they don't even have the dvd on their site. So can't post a pick of that case.
Also bought the Walmart exclusive double pack of Hairspray & their bonus dvd.
Just $3, so why not.
I bet he'll appeal.
Anyways, I wonder that now that the trial is over will Universal release a better features laden dvd?
I just hope they were waiting for the actual trial to conclude so then they could include an in-depth featurette on the real life case.
I was finally able to find the 2-disc set of Flags of our Fathers at Walmart for only $3.00
.
Bumping up this old thread with new picks for upcoming dvd releases.
