#1302 Re: Chris On Screen » Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT) » 21 Dec 07 :: 08:49

This guy calls Alpha Dog one of the worse films of 2007.

What's really stupid is that he calls it an action film.

WORST ACTION PICTURE: Honesty is a lovely quality -- and you have to credit movies that embrace their idiocy, like "Shoot 'Em Up," which had the multitasking Clive Owen simultaneously firing up an assault rifle and Monica Bellucci. Beyond forgiveness, though, was "Alpha Dog" with its artsy style (shifts in film stock, faked documentary interviews), over-the-top violence (a one-man fight scene that made "Old Boy" seem sane), and actors straining for Oscars (although I'm tempted to award a special one to Sharon Stone's prosthetic double chin.) A misfire from the start.

Then he also mentions Bruce Willis in another part.

Still, a season dominated by the disappointments of this, "Grindhouse," "Alpha Dog" and "The Astronaut Farmer" has one valuable lesson -- avoid any movie featuring a Bruce Willis cameo.

Poppycock basically means nonsense, rubbish. It's a somewhat dated word nowadays.

Unless Sean means something else.

#1304 Re: Square Eyes » Post your recent DVD purchases » 19 Dec 07 :: 10:43

I liked it. It has some funny moments. It's weird at first to see it in Widescreen, but they use the wide ratio very well.

May contain spoilers::

Some of my favorite moments are when the birds crash into the dome and all the cats are at the bottom waiting. The destruction of the Simpson's home is pretty cool. Lisa hitting Bart when he makes fun of her having a boyfriend. When the animals come in to the cabin and help remove Homer's and Marge's clothes and the birds are having a hard time getting off his clothes. When that boy hits the 3 bully's.

It does slow down a bit when they are in Alaska. It picks back up when Homer goes back to save Springfield.

Probably worth a rental first if you aren't a die hard Simpsons fan. But as a blind buy I liked it a lot.

Got this today. Also got 4 of the Simpsons movie actions figures for $15 extra from Best Buy.

The action figures go for $15 each. I got all 4 of the Simpsons family at the movie theater. They all have sound as well.

Maxim magazine has a little thing about upcoming films and they have a graph and these are what they checked for Fanboys.

"Plot revolves around a covert operation"
"Actors wear scary costumes"
"Will turn cineplexes into dork magnets"

This is their description of the film.
"Set in 1998, Fanboys follows Kristen Bell and a gaggle o' geeks as they try to steal a copy of Star Wars: Episode I from Skywalker Ranch."

They also show a really small picture of Chris and 2 other guys at a window.

It's on page 32 of the January 2008 issue.

#1307 Re: Square Eyes » I Am Legend » 15 Dec 07 :: 13:25

I read on IMDB that "something" happens to the dog, is that true?  Don't spoil it though.

I got the preview dvd from Circuit City and while it doesn't go into much depth into the film it does show some nice clips from the film. The FX looks good, the deers look very realistic.

Found out that the Speed Racer poster is lenticular. So that's likely why it's sort of fuzzy.

The only thing I really like about the poster is the Mach 5, otherwise it looks like a generic racing movie poster.

Just thought I'd post that Alpha Dog will be on sale at Best Buy for $9.99 the week of December 16-22.

It's also part of an offer where you buy 5 DVD's in the $9.99 section and get a $20 Gift Card.

It'll probably be the last time it'll be on sale before Christmas.

No I didn't. It was late and I was tired. I'll get around to it later though when I get to watch the extras as well.

#1315 Re: Square Eyes » Post your recent DVD purchases » 08 Dec 07 :: 17:39

Got these this morning.

Got them from Walmart. Price matched it for $12.99 from Circuit City and then used a $3.00 off coupon for it, so got it for $9.98. MacGyver was $20.

Pirates: AWE is much better than DMC. Less goofiness as in DMC. The storyline is much better and ties up everything very well. The final battle is terrific. Of course they left it wide open for a sequel with the map and the next thing that they could be in search of.

Here are some of the first stills from Speed Racer with Emile Hirsch.

I will say it looks unique and does remind me of the classic cartoon, but I'm not so sure of the helmet.

Got back from Best Buy and picked up 3 of these;

It's the Fantastic 4 Silver Surfer figurine. It also comes with a DVD that contains a Digital Comic.

All I paid was 1 cent for it. I picked up 3 of them. They retail for $14.99 each.
Not a bad gift idea.

Watched Just Friends yesterday.

It's an ok film, has some funny moments in it.

Some of my favorite scenes has Chris in them.
One where he tazers that lady and she falls over the railing. Another one is where his brother gives him a wedgie and he screams "My balls!" in a high pitched voice.

He's also funny in the special features where he introduces a few of the behind the scenes segments. Liked the one where he spins off the screen.
