Poppycock! :angry:

(I like saying that word, especially when it is fitting to the occasion)

I read an interview with Adam Goldberg about a month ago about how they were still trying to get this project rolling again. Crud, I should've linked it here!
It didn't sound super positive, but at least they haven't ruled it out completely either.

Yea, the deer look pretty good actually. You see them several times throughout the movie. They also did an awesome job on New York City. Parts of the streets are overrun with vegetation, several forms of wildlife live in the cities, empty buildings as far as the eye can see. The Brooklyn bridge was destroyed and  looked quite impressive too. I think they did an incredible job on the city itself.

Well, I just got back from seeing a late showing of this.
I showed up around 9:20 and the next 3 showings were sold out.  Since it was showing on like 4 screens, I only had to wait about an hour to catch the next available showing. Oddly enough, all the Alvin and the Chipmunk showings were sold out too.
   I'm not good at giving reviews but I'll try my best!
I'll also try not to spoil it too much for those of ya that haven't seen it.
I'm sure you've all seen some trailers and heard about the story: Basically a man-made virus has wiped out the world's population, leaving Will's character, Robert Neville, alone in New York City. Robert is a scientist and is immune to the virus and spends a lot of time trying to find a cure for it, since the city is over run by infected humans  who can only come out at night. Robert farms, exercises,searches for other humans, and mainly just keeps himself occupied during the day, while he hides at night in his 'fortress from the infected.
I mentioned before that I really like survival movies. Whether it's a Last man on earth scenario, or a group of people against a city of zombies-I always imagine myself in that type of situation. How would I fight the 'bad guys' and also, what would I do for entertainment, food, medicine, gas, etc.. being all alone like that. While the Last Man on Earth and the Omega Man are seriously dated, they still had some charm to them. Vincent Price and Charlton Heston did nicely in their roles . They address many of the issues and situations that I pictured myself going through. Rummaging for food, exploring, stocking up on ammo for protection, going a little delirious and seeing 'things' and talking to themselves or inanimate objects. Same goes for Will Smith. In a film where he is pretty much the only person you see aside from flashbacks and the 'Dark Seekers',he carries the movie nicely. His interaction with Sam, his German Shepard, was great. There's been a lot of comparison of Will and Sam's partnership to that of Tom Hanks and Wilson in 'Castaway'. Obviously, I felt more attachment to the dog big_smile and the film plays upon this quite a bit.
It was easy for me to 'feel' for these two characters and you can't help but get a little edgy when there is a perilous moment and their lives are put in danger. There were several scenes where something quick happens and it makes everyone jump, but it didn't come across as a cheap gag like some horror movies like to do. If there was one negative about the film that really got to me, it had to be the creatures themselves. <possible spoiler stuff> The creatures were all done in CGI and while CGI is pretty advanced and constantly improving, I think they could've done a little better job with the Dark Seekers. They looked like a big army of Valdemorts(sp?) from Harry Potter. Or Eddie, the 'mascot' for the band Iron Maiden, :devil: . The first couple of times you see them, they are shown in quick glimpses in a very suspenseful scene and come across quite frightening, but as the movie went on, I was kind of annoyed with them. I guess I just was hoping for a little more in that area.
I was also hoping for a little more in terms of Robert's life. We see him doing some exploring, and researching for the cure, but I was hoping to see Robert hunt for the creatures during the day, while they hunted for him at night. I've always pictured Robert as this being that maybe doesn't necessarily strike terror into  creatures, but he is respected and known to be dangerous, because he is the only 'normal' human. In a sense, this makes him the Outcast. The Monster. The guy who can walk around in the sun and not be affected by the virus. He is a Legend not only to to mankind, but also to these creatures. It touches upon this a little, but I guess I just wanted to see more of that. Maybe that's just me. tongue
Anyways, I give it a B+. I wanted more from the movie, but I was still entertained none the less. So check it out on the big screen!

I stumbled across some links and blogs from the re-shoots. One of our fellow 501sters had some droids that appeared in the re-shoots too.

I know. It's weird. No clue as to what's going on there...

Just a little snippet of info.
One of the guys in our SW group, James, who played a Trekkie in the Casino scene and wears the Chewbacca costume in the theater scene, said that Triggerstreet asked to borrow the Chewbacca costume last week. He said that Chris will be wearing it in a scene that was shot last week.

Pirates: AWE is much better than DMC. Less goofiness as in DMC. The storyline is much better and ties up everything very well. The final battle is terrific. Of course they left it wide open for a sequel with the map and the next thing that they could be in search of.

Did you guys watch the little scene at the end of the credits? It shows something kinda cool. big_smile

#186 Re: Chris On Screen » Fanboys » 08 Dec 07 :: 03:58

Thank you for sending me that email Deb. I just read it and wanted to reply.
I just don't understand it.....
There's no logic at all to this decision. Let's pump more money into this movie, the version of the movie that we've already shown and people loved, and change the entire inspiration for the 'quest' . Let's cut out the emotional and touching scenes because they would only confuse the audiences who just wanna see a slap-stick comedy.
I honestly don't know what to say.
I can hold onto the belief that this change will only appear on the DVD, but the fact that the movie has been pushed back AGAIN can only mean that the theatrical release is being heavily edited and these changes are taking place.
C'mon, you gotta have the Carrie Fisher scene in there. Linus kissing Carrie is too cool to cut out.
I'm curious what will happen at Skywalker Ranch now? In the original story, Linus and only Linus gets to watch Episode I, because of his illness, while the rest of the group waited outside--Now what's gonna happen? Are we going to see a film where they all make it to Skywalker Ranch and then get turned away, having to wait to see the movie in the theaters like everyone else did. What a lame 'climax' to the film.
The omission of another supporting actor is pretty annoying too.
Oh, and another reason I am kinda pissed: I and several other friends(Ken, Ken's wife, Lor,etc) were sitting behind the Fanboys in the theater scene. Now it's been re-shot with a totally different crowd behind them. :fedup:

Chris was in the theater scene. :witsend:

#188 Re: Chris On Screen » Fanboys » 07 Dec 07 :: 07:44

Well, here we go::
This is from Rob who is the guy who won the Ultimate Fan contest:

My visit to the set of FANBOYS (Spoiler-Free!)

First, a quick recap:

I made this video for "The Ultimate Fanboys Contest." I won the contest. I didn't hear from anyone for a month and a half until Friday November 30th when I got a call from Jennie (the second AD) @ 7:00pm telling me filming was starting tomorrow morning. That's cool...except that I live in Spokane WA and filming is happening in Los Angeles - about 1,500 miles away. Well I got a flight out the next morning and met up with my awesome friend Crystal.

Day One:

My first day of filming was on Sunday. I got put in a really cheap Jedi costume, which I guess is good since I was playing a Star Wars fan. Crystal and I had to sit around for a few hours with the other extras who tried to impress us with card tricks. At this point I was thinking this was super lame and not really worth the effort.

But soon Jennie met up with us and showed us around the set. She introduced us to many of the crew members who were really nice. We got to hang out on the set and watch the filming of a scene where all 5 of the stars are hanging out in the iconic Star Wars van. This was the first moment were I really felt like I was doing something worthy of my trip.

After this Crystal and I got to go into the room which was the set for a certain film director's office. Obi-Shawn was there (with his H-wing) supplying many toys, statues, and costumes for props.

We then introduced ourselves to all of the actors who were very cool. Unfortunately I accidentally washed my hands after touching Kristen Bell. After an awesome lunch we finally got to film the theater scene. Crystal and I ended up sitting directly behind Sam, Chris, and Dan. I even got an up-close view of Kristen in the Slave Leia outfit. Even though she had hot pants on underneath it will always be a treasured memory in my spank bank.

On one of the takes Dan looked back at me and said "This guys rubbing himself!", which I in fact was. I guess that is how I act excited for Episode 1, by rubbing my thigh vigorously.

Day Two

I only had to wait around for a couple of hours this time. Luckily I had my Nintendo DS and Lego Star Wars with me. I was in the Jedi costume again, this time standing on the sidewalk dueling with another fan.

After this scene Crystal showed up with Charlemagne the French Bull Dog and we hung out for the last 1st unit shot of the movie. Everyone on set was in love with Charlemagne so we had lots of fun. At one point the director was playing with him and not evening paying attention to the scene rolling.

It was interesting to see all of the different takes of this key scene. The character Linus storms away from Eric after an intense argument about the importance of Star Wars, which is essentially about them losing touch as friends. Linus (Chirs Marquette) kept on riffing on different Bossk trivia as an attempt to insult Eric (Sam Huntington). This film is definitely for the fans if there's Bossk references!

Filming wrapped and I felt like I had experienced a small piece of Star Wars history. I really believe that this movie is going to become as essential to Star Wars fandom as the actual Star Wars films themselves.

I had a great time, with only a few minor complaints. Kyle Newman wasn't there, Steven Brill (who is an awesome guy) directed all of the re-shoot stuff. Not a big deal, but Kyle is definitely a true Star Wars nerd and it would have been great to talk to him.

My main gripe is basically due to the fact that I am a poor bastard. Basically I paid 2 weeks of wages (underpaid youth counselor) to go down to Los Angels and volunteer to do something that other people were getting paid to do! If I was part of the Screen Actors Guild I would have actually been getting paid to be an extra. But nope, I got to pay for the privilege! I also had a bit of hope that I would get a better role than just being an extra. The contest was just to for a background part, but there were some rumblings that it might be a slightly larger role.

As a humble nerd I am honored to be a part of Fanboys. As a contest winner I felt a little ripped off. But overall I am ecstatic to have been a part of this and would definitely blow all of my Christmas money again if I had to do it over. I just wish I could have been wearing a Fetts shirt on screen. But hey, maybe there's a Fetts sticker on the van now...

Fanboys has been pushed back yet again. Expect it in the Spring or early summer hopefully. Also my video is supposed to be on the DVD. Maybe I can push for them to record a Fan commentary with me and others from the fan community (Force-Cast anyone?)

Being held by you isn't quite enough to get me excited,

Rob

#189 Re: Chris On Screen » Fanboys » 07 Dec 07 :: 03:50

Hang in there guys. There's only a small fraction of scenes being filmed now, as opposed to what has already been filmed. Remember how well this was received by the fans at Celebration Europe? They gave it a standing ovation. Fans in L.A. did the same for the 45 minutes that were shown there. The scenes I saw at C4 were soaked with mentions of Linus' health. They would have to butcher the entire film to change this storyline. There would be no Carrie Fisher scene. No Grand Canyon scene. The renewing of Linus and Sam's friendship would have to be altered. The party scene and the fight Sam and Linus have would have to be cut up....and many many more.   I will admit, I am a little nervous, but the movie is already made. They're just adding in additional scenes, more than likely(Let's hope!) for the DVD. But then again, these are the Weinstein's we're talking about isn't it?

(Semi-spoiler question:)

Does anyone know if Chris was involved in the Theater shots? If he was, then that's proof that he doesn't die in the film.

I think the guy that I talked to on Myspace was the winner of the Ultimate Fan contest. I'm still waiting to hear back from him though. I'll let ya know if I hear anything new.

#190 Re: Chris On Screen » Fanboys » 06 Dec 07 :: 02:38

LOL. No kidding. I don't mind alternate endings on the DVD, but leave the original storyline intact.

Awesome picture by the way. I can't wait to see more. I agree, the guys look just a lil different, but I think Zoe looks pretty much the same . It's good to see them all back together again though. It's great to get some 'new' news!!

I need to get The Dark Crystal, I haven't seen that in years.

Yesterday, I picked up Simpsons Season 9 , Tales from the Crypt Season 5, and Night Court Season 1. big_smile

Whoa, that's a cool figure. I wonder if my BB has those.

Finally the ball is rolling again!!
Woohoo indeed!!!

#194 Re: Chris On Screen » Fanboys » 01 Dec 07 :: 19:43

One of my Myspace friends(From Washington) just posted this bulletin:

"Um yeah...one of the producers called me this evening to let me know they are filming this weekend.

Well luckily I don't have to miss very much work and I got a flight and can stay with Crystal!

Hopefully I'll get to do something cool and not just be some nerd in the background. Apparently the scene I'll be in is in a theater for the Episode 1 premiere."

I asked him to write me back when he gets a chance and fill me in on how it goes.
The Episode 1 premiere was one of the scenes they filmed here, so it sounds like they are adding a few more scenes, possibly inside the theater, to it.

I know I'm not the only 'Heroes' fan here. I absolutely love this show. Plus Kristen Bell showed up in it a few episodes ago so that's always a plus.
So who's your favorite 'Hero'?
What super power would you want if you could take your pick?
Sylar's 'gift' is pretty cool, but I don't think I'd wanna kill people to obtain their powers.
My favorite character is Hiro-I'd love to have his ability to stop time and travel throughout time and history. That'd be sweet. :dancing:

Happy be-lated Thanksgiving everyone! Even if ya don't celebrate it. tongue

#197 Re: Chris On Screen » The Tic Code » 18 Nov 07 :: 03:17

Add me to the list of people who have seen this.  I just watched it last night and I really enjoyed it. Chris did an excellent job portraying a child with Tourette's. How old was he when this made?
I have a friend who has Tourette's but her condition is a little different than that the movie showed. She blows on her arm, from the shoulder down when she feels 'it' coming on. She said that she pretty much has it under control with the help of medication. I'll have to ask her if she's seen this movie. Anyways,
I watched the trailer on the DVD after I watched the movie and noticed a scene in the trailer that was different than in the actual film. When Miles breaks the picture on the wall with his pillow. They used two different takes because the glass broke different. LOL.
I have no idea why I noticed that but I did.:silly:

Exactly! Without ruining it for anyone..It actually puts a cool little spin on the idea of 'predators'....

#199 Re: Square Eyes » I Am Legend » 15 Nov 07 :: 05:01

I cannot wait for this movie either!
I loved the book too and I really hope they stay faithful to it...or at least use the same premise which from what I have seen, looks pretty good so far. I am intrigued by stories about survival and this is one of my favs!

Okay picture time!!
We do a charity event at the Zoo each year where we raise $ for the elephant exhibit. Here's a few pics from that day:

I wish I would've caught it on video, but when I walked by the Chimpanzee exhibit. 10 of them all crowded around the window and were looking at me very cautiously. (Yes I was in my costume! tongue)
2 of them started to spin in circles and bang up against the glass. I decided to move away and they all followed me as one big group until I was out of view. It was crazy! smile
