My word, I was in such shock when I first heard this.  I first heard of it on Facebook, before there was any confirmation anywhere else, I have to admit it was pretty cool how the news spread like wildfire.  Within maybe five minutes of my hearing it, all the TV broadcasts were interrupted to report the news.   sad   Even now, there seems to be a hope in the very back of my mind that this is all just a rumor, and he's still alive and hiding out somewhere.

I actually wasn't the greatest fan of his, although I did like most of his music in the '80s and early '90s, and I enjoyed his videos.  I greatly enjoyed watching MTV2 on Sunday and all the classic videos they were playing again.  When it became apparent how messed up he was though, I lost all interest.  But I even had a slight crush on him back in the day.

RIP Michael, you're an icon, and will remain so for a long, long time.

I am.   smile   And I love it.  I'm there a lot.  Or at least, was until my computer crashed.  I've have internet access sporadically ever since.  But I find a lot of fun and use from it.  I enjoy the quizes, and I too like the "Top 5" app.  Gifts are fun too if they don't go overboard.  I've got a lot on my page now, thanks to my friends there.

#4 Re: Off Topic Stuff » While we're at it... anybody on Twitter? » 02 May 09 :: 08:15

Twitter sounds pretty cool, but after all I went though with LiveJournal, MySpace and Facebook, the thought of adding another social sight is exhausting.  I don't want to have to search for and add all my friends again, and have to log into yet another sight to just update my "status", and all that much more to read through, too.  The sad thing is though, some of my friends have migrated over to Twitter and now rarely come onto MySpace or Facebook anymore, so we're completely losing touch.  I miss them!  I almost feel like I'll lose them if I don't get a Twitter eventually too.   neutral

#5 Re: All About Chris » The Brothers Marquette » 02 May 09 :: 08:10

It's been a while since I've been here, my computer is currently down.  It's in need of a new hard drive.  So for the past number of weeks I've been having to borrow friends/family/company computers to do anything.

Anyway, for anyone interested, Sean's animated project, Foster's, is airing it's last episodes this Sunday, May 3rd on Cartoon Network, starting at 4:30 pm and lasting until 7.  There's a marathon of older episodes before that starting at 1.  Sadly, I'll be working during that whole time, and will be lucky to get home in time to even see the series finale at 6:30.  I'm really sad to see the show ending.  It's been one of my favorites for the last number of years and I've gotten involved with the fanbase more with this one than I ever have with any other animated series.

So farewell, Foster's!  You'll be sorely missed.   :crying:

#6 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 16 Feb 09 :: 10:35

I've found that, whether it's a "FWD" that's sent by email, a bulletin on MySpace, or a Note on Facebook, after it's posted so many times, somewhere down the line it get's changed somehow.  It's clearly changed somewhere between Sean and I.  In fact, I myself changed #3 to "Exotic Name", because "Stripper/Porn" were already taken and it was just more original, I guess.   wink   I thought about changing either #3 or #11 to "A parent's childhood pet" since "first pet" was also already taken, but I didn't want to change it too much.

Great story about Buck the dog, I highly enjoyed it.  I'm a total animal lover.  And I shared the green comet with a friend who loves all things science and space and he was grateful.  Thank you for sharing them, Deb!   smile

Also thanks to those who sent well wishes concerning my foot.  It hardly itches at all any more, other than when I scrub it really well with those mesh exfoliating gloves.  And I'm wondering if even that is just a phantom itch, since my foot had been itching so bad for so long.  Thankfully, it's not as disgusting as I first thought.  Sure, the thought of fungi, or tiny mushrooms, growing in my skin is indeed disgusting.  But there was no weird smell, nothing oozing from it, and other than the skin peeling, didn't look any different.  And the skin peeling wasn't any more extreme than normal dead skin peeling off.  It's just that it kept doing it.   :clueless:   It was just so darn ITCHY.  Drove me absolutely nuts!  I'm sooooooo happy that's taken care of now.  I'm still applying the cream, just to be sure it doesn't come back.

I mopped my bathroom floor with bleach today.  And my kitchen floor too while I was at it, although I'm never barefoot in my kitchen.  It just needed a mopping.   tongue

#9 Re: Square Eyes » Guilty Pleasures » 04 Feb 09 :: 06:17

Wow, what are some of my guilty pleasures?  Cartoons, for sure.  I don't care what anyone says, I'm never going to be too old for cartoons.  Not only do I watch Cartoon Network (the station Foster's is/use to be on), but I also really enjoy PBS Kids.  I just never grew out of PBS Kids.  PBS shows in general, for that matter.  I love Masterpiece Theatre.   big_smile   Among some others, I like A Walk to Remember, I especially like the soundtrack, even though the movie itself didn't do well.  I'll admit I've seen some of the Barbie movies, and rather enjoyed them.   :embarrassed:

Ugh, sounds like some not so pleasant ailments going around.  My thoughts are especially with you Anne.  I wish you a speedy recovery, and minimal discomfort until then.

I might as well share what I've been going through.  Not a sickness, per say, but an ailment for sure.  I some how, beyond my wildest wonderings, contracted Athlete's foot.   yikes   Not that I never expected women couldn't get it, but it always seemed like a man's condition, and I must admit I'm disgusted at having it.  I feel so un-feminine with this.

I first noticed it late November, with a blister in between my toes, and when it popped it just itched like CRAZY.  Didn't think much of it until the skin started peeling off, and the itch just got worse.  After a few times of the itch actually waking me up in the middle of the night, I got Gold Bond cream and hydrocortisone cream, but neither seemed to be helping much.  My mother, who's a nurse, said it sounded like Athlete's foot when I explained my condition to her.  She said that I had it once before at the age of three, and was taking swim lessons at the local YMCA.  I remember the swim lessons, but I don't remember ever having an itchy foot while being there.  Well, after hearing this from my mother, I got some anti-fungal cream and have been applying it every day for the last two weeks.  My foot is feeling much, much better.  Still peeling a little, but not itching hardly at all any more.  I'm suppose to be applying the anti-fungal cream for two more weeks just to be sure it's completely gone and to keep it from coming back.  I should scrub my tub and bathroom floor really well, too, since those are the only places I'm ever barefoot (I hate walking around barefoot, anywhere, anytime).  What baffles me is I have no earthly clue where I could have picked this up, especially since I'm never barefoot!  I'm so confused over that.

#12 Re: All About Chris » The Brothers Marquette » 04 Feb 09 :: 05:36

I had a feeling Sean's character would die in Resurrection Mary.  After all, most horror flicks involve most of the lead characters dying.  Awww, I don't want to see that.   sad

Well, the Annie Awards were last Friday, and I'm sad to say Foster's didn't win.  It was a close race though.  The winner for that category was an American anime called "Avatar", which airs on Nickelodeon.  I've never seen the show myself, so I don't have any comment on it, but it must be pretty good to bring home an award.  Especially after winning over Foster's.  Oh well.

On a side note, there's a guy at my work that reminds me a lot of Sean.   tongue   He's about the same age, about a year younger though, and he has much the same mannerisms.  He's a nice guy, although we work in completely different departments so we see eachother only in passing.  He may be a little confused how I usually say his name when I greet him.  I don't even think he knows mine.   lol

#14 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Which Holiday foods/drinks do you dislike? Or like? » 31 Dec 08 :: 07:56

I can't really think of anything I dislike.  And trust me, I'm trying.  Although I can some what agree with what many here have already said about mincemeat and egg nog.  Although I like them, I need to be in a certain mood to really enjoy them.  Mincemeat can leave a nasty aftertaste in my mouth if I'm not eating something else with it.  And egg nog is just so heavy and rich, it can make me sick if I have more than one 16 oz cup of it.  To tell you the truth, I don't even mind fruit cake.  Mind you, I like it warm, with some sweet butter, so I eat it more like bread than cake, but I've never minded it too much.

As for what I especially love-

Pumpkin pie!  Yum yum yum yum yum yum.  Oh, and YUM!
Plumb pudding!  My dad use to make this when I was little, and even as a tot I loved it.  So rich, especially with the hard sauce that came with it.  Ooh, was it good!
Cranberry sauce!  It's basically cranberry jelly that you can spread on your toast.  Sweeter than cranberry juice, I've never quite understood why some people don't like it.  If you like jam/jelly, you should at least give it a try.
Apple Cider!  Especially mulled and spiced and made at home.  It starts arriving around Halloween, and with it brings the excitement that the holidays are coming.
Turkey!  Ok, there's no way on earth I could forget the turkey.  Especially with gravy.
My dad's Chicken Croquettes!  He's made these every Thanksgiving and Christmas since I was a tot.  He has a special touch, I'm tellin' ya.  And the fricassee sauce that he makes for them is to die for, much like the hard sauce he made for the plumb pudding.
Gingerbread!  Whether it's in the cookie form or the cake form with some whipped topping, it's so savory and spicy.
Apple Dumplings!  More of a Halloween or Thanksgiving treat, it's been a family tradition of mine for many years.  It's so yummy piping hot out of the oven with raisins, and with some heavy cream or half-and-half poured over.
Great Grandma's Apple Pie!  Not just a holiday treat, but we have it more often this time of year.  I won't give away all her secrets, but one of them is cinnamon hearts.  Soooo good!

I'm sure there's more but I can't think of anything else right now.  I hope I'm not making anyone hungry by listing these.  Sorry   :embarrassed:

#15 Re: Off Topic Stuff » merry christmas ! » 31 Dec 08 :: 07:35

I'm horribly late, sorry about that.  But I hope everyone had a grand Christmas.  Mine was pretty good.  Here in Seattle, or at least in the little town some miles east of Seattle, we had about two feet of snow.  Not a big deal for some, I know, but for Seattle, that was a record breaker.  We're use to maybe 6 inches at a time, not two feet (24+ inches)!  We certainly got a white Christmas, and we haven't had a true white Christmas in years.  That much was certainly nice.   smile

As for what I got, some of the more interesting things were some flannel sheets, pajamas, slippers, a bath robe, some body mist, an electric mixer and a sweater.  I'd say it was an enjoyable Christmas over all.  Not to mention the FOOD!  I love holiday food, for little more reason than this is the only time of year we eat it.  I miss it now.   sad  Oh well, there's only 11 more months before I start eating it again.   wink

There's a "Holiday Foods" thread somewhere around here too, isn't there?  While I'm here, I'll stop by there and give you a list.   big_smile

Here's a bit of good news for Sean.   smile

The cartoon for which he does the voice of one of the lead characters, "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends", has been nominated for an Annie Award- again.   big_smile  Specifically the Foster's movie Destination Imagination which aired on Thanksgiving here in the States.  Annies are basically Emmy awards for animated shows, movies and ads.

Best Animated Television Production Produced for Children

A Miser Brothers Christmas – Warner Bros. Animation
Avatar: The Last Airbender – Nickelodeon
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends "Destination Imagination" – Cartoon Network Studios
The Mighty B! – Nickelodeon
Underfist: Halloween Bash – Cartoon Network Studios

Nickelodeon leads the pack in television with 12 nominations, including two for Best Animated Television Production Produced for Children: "Avatar:The Last Airbender" and "The Mighty B!" Other nominees in this category include: "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" and "Underfist: Halloween Bash," Cartoon Network Studios and "A Miser Brothers Christmas," Warner Bros. Animation.

I remember Sean presented an Annie award himself a few years ago.  And Foster's has won a number of them during the 6 seasons it's been airing.  But this is especially exciting for the show and its cast as they are in their last season and they're going out with a "BANG!"   wink   Many congrats are in order!

Oh, and of course good luck on bringing the Annie home.   :dancing:

#17 Re: Square Eyes » Video/ TV Poll » 31 Oct 08 :: 07:04

1. What aspect ratio TV do you currently own?
a) Standard size tv. In other words the old squarish tv.
(It might be an HD TV, but I can't see anything on the unit itself that suggests so.  It is however a flat screen)

2. If you don't own a HDTV or Widescreen HDTV, when do you plan on buying one.
e) Don't plan to.
(I'm happy with what I have now.  When it breaks I suppose I might get an HD.  By then likely that will be all there is anyway)

3. Regarding Widescreen ratio films and buying them on dvd.
c) You don't care which version it is.
(I do however prefer full screen, otherwise the picture is small)

4. Which films/ TV Series do you wish was released on DVD?
(The third, fourth, fifth and sixth seasons of Foster's.  I'd also like to see the rest of the "Malcolm in the Middle" series {so far, the first season is all that's out}   :clueless:)

5. How many dvds do you currently own?
(I have no idea, although not as many as most.  Maybe 80.  I doubt more than 100 though)

6. How many dvds have you recorded at home?
(I don't have my own DVD Recorder, I still record on VHS and my DVR.  I've used my parents' DVD Recorder to record two DVDs, I think)

7. How many different video formats have you owned? And how many of each?
Here are the video formats that I'm aware of.
VHS
DVD
HD-DVD
(I might have a beta or two, but I'm not sure what format they are)

8. When did you buy your first DVD player?
(I think it was in '03.  Before that, I just had my VCR.  I still have my VCR, and still have many VHS tapes.  I'll phase them out eventually as my DVD collection builds)

#19 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 30 Oct 08 :: 07:07

On the topic of friendships and keeping them over distances, my family moved around a lot when I was growing up due to my father's job, and I never managed to keep friends longer than maybe four years before moving away and losing all contact.  When I was in 6th grade, we finally moved somewhere where I'd end up spending the majority of my teen years and even my early 20s.  I established what I'd call very close "sister" type friendships with four girls, all sisters.  The youngest two were closest to my age, and twins, so I was closest to them in junior high.  We were inseparable throughout junior high and the early years of high school.  Later on in high school though we started to drift, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was because I wasn't "cool" enough all of a sudden.  They seemed to enjoy hanging out with other friends of ours rather than me because they were more popular than I was.  It hurt a lot, and I held onto that pain, and the hope of getting my "bff"s back.  With them out of the picture, I started hanging out with their oldest sister a lot more, as she was always really cool and even with the three year difference in our ages, I was proud to consider her a close friend too.  So then the two of us got "sister" close when I was in college.  We're still very close, and she's admitted to me that she feels closer and more comfortable with me than she did with two other girls whom they grew up with from toddlerhood.  To be honest, I was always a little jealous of these other two girls because I didn't really know them (they lived in another city a number of hours away), and I knew I could never be as close to anyone as they were with my friends because I had moved around way too much.  It was a depressing thought.  But my best friend admitting she's more comfortable with me than she is with them made me feel great.   smile   So we've been there for eachother, emotionally, financially, physically, mentally, ever since.  She's awesome.

As for her twin sisters, I held onto the pain that they no longer thought I was cool enough to hang out with into our first year of college.  I tried to talk to them to mend our differences so we could become friends again, to no avail.  It would soon turn to outright malice toward one of them, I have to admit.  She was so heartless, and didn't seem to have any feeling, and it hurt even more knowing that she simply was no longer the girl I was "bff"s with in junior high.  All hope was gone at getting her back.  As the years went by, I got over it, and we're talking again, but aside from our history, I can't really call her any more than an acquaintance now days.  And the other one?  Well, I never felt malice toward her, we kind of became friends again, but she has a very low attention span.  She just simply forgot about me after I moved away.  We emailed for a little while, and even called now and then.  But soon my emails quit getting replied to, even after I sent four or five.  And a time or two I tried "surprising" her with a phone call, and she was always distracted and wasn't even listening to me.   roll   I still get the feeling I'm still not cool enough, and she's just not interested in keeping the friendship alive.  When she got engaged last year and I heard of it from her oldest sister rather than her, and then I didn't even get an invitation to the wedding, I finally gave up in trying to keep our friendship alive.  We're on good terms I guess, I've just quit trying.  It's not worth my time or energy to keep a friendship alive when she has no interest in it.  So those two friendships are pretty much RIP.   sad

As for the other sister (I did mention there were four, right?), she's real sweet, but she's very sociable and likes to keep very busy.  We've always been friends, but she has soooooooo many other friends and is always so busy.  I can't compete with all that.  So I've never gotten as close to her as I have the other three.

I have no close friends where I am now, since I moved.  I mostly just hang out with my family, and sometimes pals from work.

Wow, I think this is the longest post I've made here since I joined.   tongue

#23 Re: Square Eyes » I've got a little questionare about your habbits :D » 05 Oct 08 :: 07:10

Part one: movie theaters

How many times have you been in theaters?   Wow, I really don't know.  A few dozen times I'm guessing

Do you have an oppinion about movie theaters?   I think they're fun, and they're "special".   smile   I have however heard horror stories about what goes on in the dark, so I always sit up front and prefer not to go alone.

At what age was your first experience? Remember the movie?
   The first movie I remember going to was Disney's Peter Pan when I was 4

What is your all time favorite movie seen in theater?   Probably Titanic.  It's the only movie I saw more than once in the theatre, before it came out on video

In how many theaters have you been?   Hmm, maybe 8 or 10

Do you find any differences in different theaters? If so, What? (Themes or something?)   Well, the building and layout of course.  I like how they usually have dark colors like black/blue/purple, some have more reds.  But they're always dark colors to set the mood for watching a movie.

Do you have a favorite theater? Which one?   I can't pick a favorite.  Maybe the Tinseltown ones

Do you have a specific type of movies that you just have to see in a theater, not just DVD? Why?    I can watch anything on either DVD or in the theatre, but movies with a lot of special effects or flying scenes are even more awesome in a theatre

What does the movie theater-experience mean to you?    I've always seen it as a special occasion when I go to the theatre

Are you drawn to see the movies that are very popular or most-discussed?    I only see movies I want to see, I don't let popularity sway me, unless I'm going with friends and they are seeing it because it's "popular".

What's your mood usually after you leave a theater?    When I leave?  A little sad that the "special occasion" is over.

* * * * *

Part 2: DVD

Do you have a favorite place to rent or buy DVD's? If so, What is so special about it?    Blockbuster, although I haven't rented in a super long time.  I haven't tried it, but I've heard lots of good things about Netflix

A Quick look at your DVD-stand: what do you see at first?    F*R*I*E*N*D*S season sets, Roswell season sets, and all sorts of cartoons   big_smile

Have you got any favorite DVD's?    Of course, my cartoons, particularly Foster's, although I also love my F*R*I*E*N*D*S and Roswell DVDs

Do you buy a lot of DVD's?    I actually don't, only when I really want a DVD do I get it.  Friends get me a lot of my DVDs

What's your flavor when it comes to DVD's? Horror movies? Drama? TV-series?    Cartoons!   big_smile   And comedy usually.

What do you do when you have a movie night at home? Snacks and all?
    Got to have chips and dip.  Sometimes buttered popcorn.  And if it's hot outside, also ice cream.

Do you like to have a lot of company when watching a movie on DVD?    Not usually, sometimes a friend, maybe two.  Or my parents and sister.  But most of the time I'm actually alone.

Do you have a lot of pauses when you're watching a movie? Does it anoy you to watch with some who wants a lot of pauses?
    I rarely pause, unless I get a phone call or someone comes to the door.   I don't even usually pause when I have to run to the bathroom because I've usually at least seen it before and I can at least still hear it.   tongue    And yes it does, if they pause it more than necessary.

* * * * *

Part 3: TV

How many hours a day you watch TV?    Maybe 4-5

Do YOU think it's too much?    I know for a fact it's less than average now days, so I don't worry about it.

What type of TV-shows you like?    Cartoons!  (do I really need to keep saying that, lol)  And comedy.

Any favorites?    Foster's, F*R*I*E*N*D*S, That 70s Show, Malcolm in the Middle, Roswell, and many others

Do you like to watch made for TV- movies?
    I can, some of them are pretty good

Do you generally watch a lot of movies on TV?   Most movies I watch are on TV rather than DVD

What's your TV-watching experience like?
   Relaxing, I also like the background noise

Is there a certain moment in a day when you like to watch TV?
   In the evenings

Aww, thanks for the b-day wishes everyone!   :embarrassed:   I was on vacation, or maybe it would be considered a "staycation" since it was only to my southern neighbor of a state- Oregon.  As for my birthday, it started at an aunt and uncle's house in the Portland area, and ended in a cabin on the Oregon coast.  Went to a historic lighthouse and the Tillamook Cheese Factory and Creamery where I had my b-day treat- some mouth watering ice cream!  My mother gave me some money with which I bought a jacket, a purse and a CD.  My dad got me some sweat pants (because I asked for them, I had packed only shorts and capris, yet the weather turned cold, dreary, windy and rainy, I was COLD!).  Oooh, were they cumfy!  My vacation ended yesterday.  So now I'm back at work.  Boo.   :fedup:

Thanks again for the birthday wishes you guys.  And a very happy birthday to my fellow August babies!   big_smile   Whoo hoo!
