It gives me weird dreams and activates my restless leg.  What happens is over a period of time my body gets immune to all those sleeping drugs: melatonin, ambien, Lunesta.  I've tried everything, and after about a month, they all stop working.

The good thing is though I slept last night for 12 hours straight with no medication!  I tried some of the yoga stretches and that really helped.  Wanted to go to yoga early this morning but i could barely move I was so tired!  But at least I got some sleep!

Cool Mel, didn't realize you were from Hawaii!  My sister is going there on her honeymoon!

Thanks deb for the link, definitely had some useful tips.  Some I already knew and a few knew things.   There are three new things I'm going to try to implement: light yoga poses, magnesium and calcium and that tea in the herbal remedy they were suggesting.  I've tried valerian root and I can't stand the smell!

How fun and I see that you are going to Marilyn Manson/Rob zombie tour.  That should be interesting in itself.  I'm not a fan of Marilyn's music myself, but I have heard he is actually a very intelligent person and so is Rob Zombie.  His movies creep me out which shows he knows what he is doing!  big_smile There was one in particular (his last horror film I think a long time ago) that staid with me for days, can't remember the name... but my siblings and I loved it because being a horror film it still felt so real simultaneously that you actually felt bad for the criminals (using term loosely there).  That should be an interesting event!

Having trouble sleeping these days, anybody have any routines that helps them sleep besides meds?  Meds aren't helping in this case....

Congrats Anne!  Good luck to you!!

Hope you had fun at the concert Mel smile

My sister gets married in 3 weeks!  yikes  big_smile

Thanks Mel - I'm contemplating attending and just standing in the back in rememberance of her and what she's done and been through.  Only one survivor knew her and she was thankful I called and told her.  but she lived in austin.  I might go on her behalf.

Deb - cutie pie indeed!  Still working on the dog, parents are communicating, it takes time... if u come across any small good apartment dogs that need a home email me.

Domestic - congrats on the interviews.  Working for amazon!  Interesting ideas!  I like it.  Good luck prayers sent your way.... wink

one of our holocaust survivors at the museum passed away... sad  I called five other survivors to let them know.  Volunteering at the Dallas Holocaust Museum has been an interesting experience.  I may just go and stand in the back in honor of her and in remembrance....

Thank you guys!  It was a great day filled with lots of hugs and cards from the kiddos.  Happy to have great friends to celebrate with last Saturday and dinner tonight with the family.  Honestly, the kiddos made my day so special, couldn't ask for anything more.  Each class made me cards or sang me happy birthday and gave me hugs each time they saw me.  That's more than I could ask for! smile lol

Just bragging that my big 30 is tomorrow1! wink  I had a nice celebration with friends on Saturday.  My family wants to do dinner Wednesday to be honest - I love them, but Wednesday is such a hard night. I'd almost like to do yoga,  read, have a glass of wine and call it a night. I've got saturday school and my sister's wedding shower sunday.  It may sound selfish, but I just have to make it to bed so early for school that going out for dinner on a weekday is difficult.  Winey I know.  Either way I know it will be nice.  Everyone's saying that they'll make it easy.  But I know my family - we like to talk A LOT - or at least two or three of them do wink  lol

So I think my parents are getting me (or have gotten me) or will get me a dog for my birthday either on my birthday or sometime soon.  A King Charles Spaniel, since I love everything british and british literature.  I thought of naming her Elinor from Sense and Sensibility.  What do you think?

#314 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Road Trippin' » 14 Aug 12 :: 03:21

It was lots of fun and indeed too short!  Maybe we'll meet up if I go to Prague or Switzerland for Grad school wink  I would post pictures now but for some reason it takes a while for the pictures to upload so I'll do it when I come home a bit earlier wink

#315 Re: Square Eyes » Misc Stuff » 13 Aug 12 :: 05:24

I saw Bourne Legacy over the weekend and really enjoyed it.  Slow to action build up but because they are building up a plot to set up the next set of movies.  The plot is quite interesting and everyone seemed into it too.  Of course there is action, just not as much as the last but I think the purpose of it was to create a new set of Bourne Movies.  Still entertaining and still some great action scenes.  Of course how can you not love Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz?  Both incredible.  Reachel Weisz is just so real in anything she does.  so I recommend checking it out!  Jeremy Renner is definitely a new replacement for action in the Bourne, and I also feel like a potential fill in for the Mission Impossible movies if Cruise retires from those too.  But I'll miss seeing him in independent movies like The Hurt Locker. So good.

#321 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Book Thread » 10 Aug 12 :: 05:02

I read him on and off - my brother was a huge fan and we have all of the 70s, 80s, 90s books in Hard back.  I read Different Seasons ( a book of short stories) Desperaiton, Nevada, The Shining and now this one.  The Shining has been my favorite so far.  I have The Stand on my list, Misery, and Christine.... But too many to read and no time is my problem!

#322 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Book Thread » 09 Aug 12 :: 06:08

Okay, so I bought the two most random things at half price that made everyone laugh: Cujo and a tai chi video  big_smile  The tai chi video is actually great.  I've been going through this afternoon slump where I crash for two hours and then of course have a hard time falling asleep.  So just to set up the night - i journaled, then meditated, and still couldn't sleep so I tried the tai chi and made a not so smart choice of getting some tea and starting Cujo.  A page in and I'm hooked.  I like it already more than The Shining.  I can tell I'll still be up all night.  Not a smart choice at all!   lol But highly recommend the book.
