Haha no offence taken. I eat vegemite pretty much every morning on toast and LOVE it. And I promise you Tim Tams.....they are definitely an experience to be had. OH OH OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! So good!
So BEAUTIFUL.....
That is SOOOO awesome for you Bree! Haha you are too cute when you get that excited. Go Tigger Go ![]()
Haha well to make it even more appealing its actually concentrated yeast extract. Sounds yummy...*sarcasm plus!*
But if you have tried Australian biscuits. Have you ever had tim tams? mmmmmmmm SOOOOOO good. Or the tim tam dunk, where you bite both ends of the tim tam and then drink a hot chocolate or coffee through the biscuit (cookie biscuit type). OH YUM!
Mmm fair enough. I dont think they are weird. We just dont really have them here. Besides if we are talking breakfast that other countries think are strange I cant really talk coming from the Australian background of vegemite. Have you guys tried vegemite? I have yet to meet a non-Australian that enjoys it
Edit: Hahaha I was just thinking the kind of reaction you would get here if you asked for biscuits with gravy. Hahaha
Hahaha whoops....yeah I started hearing that story on the radio this morning. Didnt hear the bit about him being found though
Sounds like you are describing unsweetened scones or pancakes HAHA. We dont really have that here but we do have damper in Australia which sounds kinda similar. Its more of a camping tradition though. I dont know of anyone that would cook it in their homes.
This is wiki's explanation. Is that called biscuits in the US? Its so strange...
I also love Say Anything. How could you not! If only we all had a Lloyd in love with us.
"Why would I shoot a bloke BANG, then take him to the bloody car and wizz him off to the hospital at a hundred miles an hour? It defeats the purpose of having shot him in the first place." - Chopper Reed (Eric Bana), Chopper

"Alright, alright, Mickey's a mouse, Donald's a duck, Pluto's a dog. What's Goofy?" - Gordie Lachance (Wil Wheaton), Stand By Me

Hahaha I am hopeless I forgot and missed this weeks episode  Might try and see if I can download a copy from somewhere...
Reminds me of when my former writing partner was visiting from Australia and he asked me what kind of "grease" I used on my sandwiches. Again, that sounds so appetizing. I realize that these are simply literal interpretations, but yuck! While he was here, I got him addicted to Miracle Whip. LOL!
Ok I think that might have just been your writing partner. Hahaha never heard the referrence "grease". Whats Miracle Whip???
You can also get them with chocolate and caramel (my favorite!). Taste-wise, I have so far only encountered these kind of cookies in Commonwealth countries. They're sweet, but they also have an underlying salty taste. We have cookies that look kinda like them, but nothing that really tastes like British Digestives.
-TeeJay
Yup - Australia is Commonwealth and we have them here too. Though in general we would refer to the broad term "cookie" as biscuits. Most of the time if someone says cookie it is known what you are talking about but mostly just teased for trying to be American. The only time I ever say cookie would be referring to the cookie monster and the cookies at Subway. MMMMMM subway cookies....
Anne - Hope you find another job soon, that will probably stop you from wanting to blast your old boss!
Hoops - Sounds horrible...Its bad enough being sick let alone being given the run around with the medication which is sposed to make you better.
On a side note: Lending money to family is SUCH a bad idea. Even while you are lending it you know its a bad idea but you cant stop yourself doing it because you love your family and know they are in trouble and you can help. *sigh* I would like to think that I will get this money back. But at the same time I doubt it ![]()
That was a really good article. I liked it
AWESOME news for Chris too! The paired article of the 10 most over-rated young actors was good too. I definitely agreed with alot of what was said. I havent seen Rupert Grint out of the Harry Potter role though. But this article has me thinking its about time I did!
Did they actually have a script for this movie? Hahaha seems like ALOT of it was improvised. But that being said, Chris is awesome ![]()
Blergh, I think his hair makes him look horrible...Hahaha but this definitely looks like a movie I wanna see! Thanks for the heads up Shell. I will make sure to catch this one as soon as I can ![]()
The media here is pretty much underlying the "look at how bad we look to other countries". So I was curious as to how much of that was true. Whether other countries even cared. The black-face routine of Jackson Jive was originally done 20 years ago. They brought them back on as it was a reunion type night. Not that I am creating excuses but it has been said that the performers questioned whether or not it would be acceptable to do it now and were told by producers that it was fine. *sigh* I just think poor judgement happened here and it has been blown out of proportion. I am glad to hear that it hasnt appeared to create a bad image of Australians. They really should have known better. They originally performed as med. students and are all now prominent doctors. I guess intelligence doesnt always save you from stupid judgements.
Australia, particularly Melbourne have been having too many issues surface of late to do with race and political correctness.
Firstly there have been multiple bashings of Indian students, that were heavily publicised in India but didnt get all that much coverage here. Also another was stabbed with a screwdriver and robbed, causing protests. From my perspective I think that its horrible and disgusting that anyone could do these things to another person. But in all honesty I do not believe the attacks to be racially motivated. The bashing which was publicised in India grossly misinterpreted the ratio of attackers and victims. It was 5 young men attacking 4 other Indian males. It was not 70 people bashing 4 helpless Indians. But I wasnt there so I cant really say.

Then on a variety show "Hey Hey Its Saturday" (this show was aired for years and years, but has only came back on as a reunion show) One aspect of the show was known as Red Faces. This is a talent segment. Or talentless. Half the time its more about laughing AT the person because they are terrible than enjoying the show. ANYWAY besides the point. On this show not long ago an act was resurrected from when it was originally on air. It was called the Jackson Jive. It was a bunch of guys dancing around mimicking the Jackson Five. However they had painted their faces black but had "Michael" with white facepaint. Harry Connick Jnr was a judge on the show at the time and got quite upset about it all. I can see how it was in poor taste, but at the same time feel that there may have been an over reaction to it.

And now today if that wasnt enough this comes out. We are at the moment in the beginning of the "Spring Carnival Racing". So there are many horse races and alot of attention to it. A suburb in Melbourne, Cranbourne had a day and decided to pull a stunt in which they would race the "midget cup". They had the midgets dressed in racing silks and chose people from the crowd to be "horses". Politicians are falling over themselves back peddling this one and not taking any blame. Never mind the fact that the "jockeys" said they thought it was funny and had a good time.

With each new issue there seems to be an undertone of concern for how it looks to other countries. Australia has the political foot right in the mouth at the moment. I was just hoping that it wasnt being shown poorly to other countries.
Is it really as bad as the news is portraying??? The news here is basically saying that every other country thinks we are backward and racists. I am curious as to whether all these issues really are that well known across the world.
WOOOO! Supreme....impressive ![]()
I just got sent that pic via email and couldnt help but giggle at the ridiculousness of it all!

This wont be nearly amusing for the rest of you as it is for me. But this is my CEO! Hahahahahaha love it
They arent so much crap movies....But I do get embarrassed to admit just how much I enjoy movies that were designed for kids. All the pixar and other cartoon ones! OMG they are amazing and I really love watching them. But I also love those extremely easy to predict handing you the moral on a silver platter types too. So corny and cheesy but I am just such a big kid at heart and I can watch them over and over.
Ok so summer time is approaching for me down under
Which means one thing....its festival time! Just gotta decide which ones I want to attend and how much money I have to attend them. I can really only afford to go to one probably. They arent all that cheap, but when you get to see SO many bands at once it doesnt work out too bad. Tossing up between Big Day Out and Soundwave....hmmmm I have mates going to both and both would be AMAZING to go see. Which do you guys reckon would be better?
I only recognise her through CSI. But loving Flash Forward as my favourite must watch series of the newbies. Considering Mercy is on straight after I am thinking that will be a fantastic night in. Though I am extremely frustrated that it will be competing against The Mentalist. I am thinking I will have to record one and watch the other!
