The on-again off-again saga of All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is apparently off again -- for good.

Senator has completely shut down its distribution arm. Basically they have gotten out of the distribution business and will not be putting out any of the films they acquired.

See article:

Chris' co-stars in this movie include Michael Welch, Amber Heard, & Aaron Himelstein.

Not sure if this was posted but the fourth film in the series, Breaking Dawn, was confirmed by Rob at Cannes. It got picked up by THR:

Until now it had not been officially announced that the 4th film would be made.

I can tell you that Mike Welch has officially signed on for Eclipse.

Jay Baruchel is finally bringing his passion project -- based on his character Johnny Klutz --to the big screen.

Rob McKittrick has come aboard to write "Johnny Klutz," a comedy Universal picked up with Baruchel attached to star and Red Hour producing.

Working from his love of physical comedy, Baruchel created the character of Klutz, a lovable loser who is impervious to pain. He paired with Red Hour in the fall, pitching the concept to Universal execs Lawrence Grey and Eric Baiers. Grey has since departed the studio, a victim of company's December layoffs. Red Hour, which was based at DreamWorks, has since signed a first-look deal at Fox.

Baruchel and Red Hour kept honing the character, trying to crack his story, eventually meeting with McKittrick, the writer-director behind the ensemble comedy "Waiting ...," starring Ryan Reynolds and Anna Faris. McKittrick came up with a story based on the Klutz character, which put the project in gear.

Ben Stiller, Stuart Cornfeld and Jeremy Kramer are producing for Red Hour. Thruline's Marc Hamou and Willie Mercer, who rep Baruchel, will serve as executive producers.

Baiers and Dave Targan will oversee the project for Universal.

McKittrick, repped by CAA and H2F, has several projects in development, including the comedies "Man Crush" and "The Wingman" at New Line.

Canada native Baruchel slowly has been moving up the comedy food chain in Hollywood, starring in the short-lived "Undeclared," the feature "Knocked Up" and finally landing a key part in "Tropic Thunder," produced by Red Hour.

The actor, additionally repped by CAA, is prepping to shoot the Disney-Bruckheimer movie "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," opposite Nicolas Cage, and has "She's Out of My League" in the can.

Jesus, could that be the case here?

I can't say and certainly wouldn't want to blame her without any knowledge of the facts. But it's the most common reason why an actor isn't listed or portrayed a certain way in the film's marketing materials and credits.

Most people probably know a little about billing -- how names in credits, on posters, in ads, etc. appear in a certain order. Sometimes its alphabetical. Other times it's not. Sometimes they are side-by-side or one is higher than the other but to the right instead of left. That is all negotiated when the actor's contract is signed.

But there are things most people probably never think about. Here's one example. You may know this but just for anyone who's curious about these things. You know how when you're watching the credits sometimes there are two actors' names alone on the screen while others have their name up there alone? That's called "single card credit" and it's something negotiated by the agents. In fact, they "buy" it, so to speak. What it does is give that actor more clout in their next negotiations. Also, whether or not their name appears at the beginning of the film or at the end (cast list) is also part of the negotiations. Although lately it's become common for films to not have any credits at all up front. But the single card credits still follow the film before the cast list rolls.

Studios and distributors generally don't do these things randomly or because someone in marketing said to do it that way. From the page on IMDb to the ads to the posters to the trailers, to the onscreen credits to the press junkets to the DVD artwork, who appears where and whose name appears where is mostly part of the actor's contract.

No, Larry, I'm talking about the casual movie watcher who doesn't know all of everyone they like's credits.

In that case, I agree 100%. But I wouldn't call them fans. To me, by definition, "fans" would know about the film.

If you're talking about people in general who may have seen him in his other work and liked him (who I would not call fans) then, yes, they would be missing out. Hopefully they'll find out somewhere down the line.

I can't tell you how many times I've been disappointed that a certain actor's name was left off a poster, or an ad, or their face off a poster or ad, or not shown in the trailer, or not on the DVD cover or in the extras. But I understand the thinking behind it and am learning more and more as time goes on exactly why this happens.

A lot of people would be surprised to find out why their favorite actor's name or face aren't included everywhere. It's not just marketing. Much of the time it simply comes down to whether or not their agents did their jobs.

A lot of what you see, from the position and order of the names in the ads and on the posters, on the screen and on the DVD cover, whether or not the person is on the press junkets with the other actors, whether or not they are featured in merchandising, etc. etc. is all negotiated by their agents.

Anywhoo...hopefully they at least go to his IMDb page and/or board and see about it there.

I could have written a thousand words on how to deal with the morons on IMDb (in fact, I have :embarrassed: ) but nothing says it better than that. lol Might even make a great IMDb sig.

BTW for the most part, from what I know about DVD marketing/cover art/poster graphics/etc. TeeJay hit all the right notes. It's all about catching the eye of the consumer -- authenticity aside. Colors are changed because they "snap" better. Bodies/heads/costumes are shopped because they are meant to attract certain consumers. If a face or a name is hot at the moment that's what they emphasize. It's all about catching someone's eye in a crowded marketplace, especially the ones who walk through a Blockbuster or Best Buy or online site scanning the boxes for what "looks good."

The people who are planning to buy the DVD will buy it even if there's a steaming pile of dog poo on the cover. It's the ones who are just looking for something to pick up and rent or buy that the cover art is meant to appeal to.

Yeah, the main reason I keep going back to IMDb is that I meet the most amazing people there.  So many of our contacts originally came from that MB.  You, for instance, Larry.  Most recently, the editor of RTWM reached out to me.  If we could just get rid of the trolls...

Aww, well it is definitely worth it to meet people like you. I wouldn't have discovered this site either.

I've actually met many people in person at festivals and screenings who "met" me on IMDb. That not only includes fans but also actors, directors, producers, other journalists, and on and on. In fact, if it wasn't for someone I met via IMDb I might not even be doing what I am today.

It's also been a great way to stay in touch with people who don't have my email, MySpace, Twitter, etc. Although it's not that hard to find me online (just go to larryrichman.com or Google me lol) many people who had no other way to contact me have tracked me down via IMDb. Just recently an actor who heard I had photographs of him online tracked me down there and wrote to me asking for copies.

As far as the trolls go, though, the way I look at is that the better the actor/film the more people are going to be jealous.

#36 Re: Chris On Screen » Fanboys » 08 Mar 09 :: 22:14

Ya, it was Lou, Dan, and me that night (sort of the 3 Musketeers lol). It's a long story how I know Dan but it's A worked with B who worked with C etc. Chris and Sean actually fit in there, too lol. And Michael Welch. Sort of like a young Hollywood Mafia -- they all have worked with each other in various groups, go on the same auditions, etc. Emile Hirsch, Michael Angarano, Trevor Morgan, Ryan Kelley, Lou Taylor Pucci, Noah Segan, Rocky Marquette, Mae Whitman, Aaron Himelstein, Thomas Dekker, Shiloh Fernandez, Dan Byrd, Hayden Panetierre, Luke Eberl, Jon Foster, Michael Welch, and Chris and Sean M. are all connected in various ways (and I'm sure I've left out many names) but all the above people whom I've met can all be traced back to the same one person. It's all very incestuous, in a matter of speaking lol. Sean is actually the only one I've never met in person.

Cool, thanks for the feedback, Sean! I've known Lou a long time -- I didn't even know he had that cameo until he took the helmet off! (We don't talk about work lol) I also know Noah pretty well so it was a double shocker. I literally yelled out OMG in the theater. lol

I know how awful shoots can be so it's great to hear positive stories. And you know what? It comes across onscreen.

#40 Re: Chris On Screen » Fanboys » 07 Mar 09 :: 23:04

Heyy, I hung out with Lou Taylor Pucci last night for a few hours. We went to the NY Premiere of his movie Explicit Ills then to a party which lasted late into the night lol  (Paul Dano couldn't make it, though). I had a long talk with him about Fanboys. He was only on set for a day (obviously) but he had a lot of fun. He said it was a very relaxed shoot and that Kyle was like a little kid in a candy store. I don't remember the whole story (it was long) but basically he'd run into Kyle and Kyle asked what he thought about shooting a cameo as Boba Fett. Lou didn't hesitate. Anywhoo...just thought I'd share. I've got about 100 pics of Lou doing the Q&A and at the party with me and various others I hope to post when I get the chance.

On Friday, March 6 and on Saturday, March 7, following the 7:30 PM showings there will be a Q&A with writer/director/editor Mark Weber, producer Jim Jarmusch, and cast members Paul Dano and Lou Taylor Pucci.

They will also be introducing the 10 PM shows.

You mean you don't want to see Amber get tortured? hmm (j/k)

BTW as a followup to the post before that, I just heard from Lou -- they are flying him in tomorrow night for the New York screening of Explicit Ills so he will be there along with writer/director/producer/editor Mark Webber. I wasn't sure if I was going but he asked me to come up so I may be going but I'm not certain.

#44 Re: Square Eyes » In Praise of Chris's Colleagues » 05 Mar 09 :: 07:03

Amber Heard and Odette Yustman have signed on to star in "And Soon the Darkness," a remake of the 1970 British thriller being co-produced and co-financed by Studio Canal. Heard also is making her first foray into producer territory, acting as a co-producer on the film, which marks the feature directorial debut of commercials helmer Marcos Efron.

Set in Argentina, "Darkness" tells the story of two American girls on a bike-riding trip in a remote part of the country. When one of them goes missing, the other must find her before darkness falls and her worst fears are realized. The original was set in France and tackled the idea of how vulnerable a stranger in a strange land can be. The new "Darkness" will shoot in Argentina.

From Geo at Twilighters.org, with some corrections below provided by Twilight Lexicon:

* The Walmart DVD has special features: audio commentary, three music videos and the five extended scenes.
    * The Ultimate DVD Giftset (with the soundtrack, watch, etc.) is only available at Costco.
    * The Ultimate Blu-Ray Giftset is available at Amazon but not until May 5.
    * The single disc Blu-Ray is only available at Best Buy. It's the same content as the national 2-disc DVD.
    * Target has the only  2-disc Blu-Ray with the same items that Geo talks about when she mentions their exclusive 3-Disc DVD.
    * The Blu-Ray versions will have BD-Live (that cool feature where you go online for content), it's not 100%  confirmed that you'll get a sneak peek of New Moon in the March Blu-Ray release, it's far more likely (though still not 100% confirmed) that it will be in the Blu-Rays out towards summer.

I don't trust Walmart at all. On more than one occasion I have purchased a DVD or CD at Walmart because of what they called an exclusive -- even saying "available only at Walmart" on a sticker -- only to find the same bonus material elsewhere.

I'd go with the Borders set if I could only get one. There are other ways to get the bonus material you're missing. whistling.gif
