Speaking of accidents.

I sometime watch those video shows on tv where people do stupid things and get hurt.

The one that make me cringe is the ones where they either break a bone or hit there head really hard on the ground.
I don't feel sorry for them at all. They were stupid to to something so dumb and dangerous, so it's there own fault they got hurt.
But just seeing them break an arm, and it's in an abnormal angle. Or to hear there head hit the ground,  -- just makes me cringe as if it's happened to me.

#503 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 25 Nov 08 :: 16:55

I can't even remember the last real ice storm around here. Perhaps back in the 70's.

But ice is the absolute worse thing. I wouldn't even try to go out in that. It's better to lose a days pay than get into an accident and have to pay to get the car fixed or even worse if you get injured in the accident and have medical bills and perhaps lose more days off from work.

At least with snow you get some traction, on ice there is nothing.

#504 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 25 Nov 08 :: 15:33

The most snow days I ever got off from school was back in the blizzard of 1979.
I can't really recall how many days off we got, but I  remember still being in school well into June, so must have been a week or two.

I don't know if these pics will work or not, but this gives you some idea of what it was like around here back then.

Now you'll notice that the snowfall itself wasn't that much, but it was the drifts. We had drifts of at least 3 feet in areas. Some roads were completely blocked. Cars in ditches. Even cars covered in a snow drift in the middle of the road. Then after that it got really cold, with wind chills I believe to be around 70 to 80 below zero.

I'm sure as kids most of liked the snow. Playing in it, making snow angels, having snow-ball fights, building forts and other things.

But as adults some of us hate it. I don't like driving in it, shoveling it or just being out in it. But I like looking at it and how it makes everything look so beautiful.

#507 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 24 Nov 08 :: 16:42

Well, got no snow. Just some flurries. What a surprise, the weatherman was wrong again.

Looks like a frame from a film noir film.

Weather Channel is forcasting less than an inch of snow today. Won't be around long, will melt quickly with highs in the upper 30's, lower 40's forcasted for the rest of the week.

#509 Re: Square Eyes » Post your recent DVD purchases » 22 Nov 08 :: 23:23

Since it's dvd related I'll post it here.

The video rental store I used it buy a few used dvds closed up last week. No going out of business sale, nothing. Noticed it because I drove by and gone was all the posters on the windows and it was clear everything inside was gone.

What was nice that the used copies came in the regular cases and even came with slipcovers and inserts if they originally came with them.

Is the Forrest Gump dvd you bought 2 discs?
It's not a film I watch very often. But the effects are very well done.

Speaking of effects. I have watched the featurettes on the Lord of the Rings dvds and even though they go into great detail on how they did them, some of the effects still leave me confused how they actually achieved it.

Bought these today from Best Buy.

Price matched it from the Target ad and got each one for $12.98 (That is after about 10 minutes of them checking to see if they would price match because the cashier was making a big deal about the words "Collector's Edition".

Basically I got one free plus some. Normal price at Best Buy was $29.99 each.

#511 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Which Holiday foods/drinks do you dislike? Or like? » 21 Nov 08 :: 09:07

How could I forget Fruit Cake. Dislike it so much I forgot about it.

I've had ham before for the holidays before. But I hate honey-glazed, too sweet for my taste. I also think some people put mustard on top as well, again sound yucky to me.
I like just plain ham.

The thing is with the regular 'Full fat' Egg Nogg is that it just gives me the bloated, sick feeling. And that happens so quickly, about 1/2 cup is enough. Never had the alcohol version.

#512 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 21 Nov 08 :: 01:27

Are this type of articles common in other parts of the World?

Don't know. I actually don't read newspapers that much anymore.
Basically watch the news for that type of thing.

On TV up here we always get the annual report of a trip to the "North Pole" and see footage of reindeer.

Then on Christmas Eve on the local news during the weather reports they show Santa on radar traveling across country. Lame stuff.

And every year we always get the annual "How to drive in winter weather conditions reports". Do people actually forget how to drive in snow??

Some are saying that's Kirk & Uhura, while others are saying it's Kirk & an Orion lady.

The lighting makes it too difficult to 'make out'.:drool:

For me it really depends.

Last year I only went to Walmart to buy some of those cheap dvds for myself. That was it for BF. I just go to one store (if at all) and quickly get what I want and go back home.

I never go to the mall. I've seen the footage on TV and it's just crazy.

A few years ago I was going to go to Best Buy. The line was just crazy, way out the door (and that was a good 30 minutes after they opened). I saw the line outside and just went home.

I just can't stand how crazy, rude people are on that day. Plus the crowds.:o:angry::angry:

What about you guys? Just one place, several, a entire day event or just stay home and enjoy a day off?

#516 Re: Square Eyes » Star Trek (2008 movie) » 18 Nov 08 :: 16:36

Based on the release schedule on boxofficemojo, it looks like it'll have a good week, perhaps 2 to makes some good money.

Nothing really major is opening against it the week of release. Angels & Demons and Bruno open the week later. Don't know how those will do, perhaps good. But Trek should continue doing well for at least 2 weeks until Night at the Museum II: Escape from the Smithsonian and Terminator Salvation opens on the 22nd.

Now will Trek open in the first spot the first week of release? Depends on how well X-Men Origins: Wolverine does and holds the second week.

It'll have to do very well to at least break even with the reported 150 million budget, and then that doesn't include marketing costs.
Hopefully it'll be the jump-start the series needs or we'll be looking at another failure in terms of box office like Speed Racer was this past summer.

#517 Re: Square Eyes » Star Trek (2008 movie) » 18 Nov 08 :: 13:04

I had to download it from the net because I can't play them due to my old computer.

Looks very good to me as well.

Don't know if the story is focusing on Kirk & Spock, but the trailer makes it look that way.

Terrific shots of the Enterprise in action.
The whiteness of the interiors is a little distracting, but it sure makes it pop off the screen.

This actually maybe the movie that makes me go and see it in the theater. Big maybe though since I just hate the experience.

In case anyone wants, I could upload it somewhere for those that want to download the trailer.

Did anyone catch the SNL episode from last night?

Here are some caps I found on another message board.

I don't think too many male stars would dress up like that.

So I did grocery shopping at Meijer today. In the mail yesterday I received a coupon from them for $10 off my purchase of $50 or more for the next 2 weeks.

So I went and spent about $70 for food. The cashier had a problem with the coupon and asked for a supervisor to come and help, she went and overrode it.

So I got home and noticed that instead of just $10 off, I actually got $20 off. So with all the sales and the coupon mistake I saved $47.

Bought these today

From Best Buy

I bought their exclusive edition that comes in a lunchbox

Then I went over the the Circuit City to check out their Store Closing sale.
Basically they raised just about all the prices up on the dvds. And the TV on DVD selection was terrible.
Anyways I bought these 2 titles

#523 Re: Square Eyes » Neat new features on DVD Profiler » 14 Nov 08 :: 16:37

So users are now testing the latest Beta version.

Some very good additions especially regarding the crew credits.
Can now add more precise writing credits, including Story By, Created by credits.
Music credits now include Theme By credit.

The most new crew is in the Art section, now can include Costume Designer, Make-up Artist, Make-up Effects, Visual Effects and Creature Design.

Those are all contributable to the main database.

However, users can now include any credits that they want in any of the categories. If you wanted you could include everything from co-producers to Sound Effects Editors to even who catered if you so chose to. But these aren't able to be contributed but remain only in your own database.

Basically it's like having your own movie database of your very own.
