PNY Technologies and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have just announced that they are teaming up to offer the comedy classic Ghostbusters on a USB 2GB flash drive. Yes you just read that right, a USB flash drive preloaded with a movie.
This marks the first time for the release of a full length movie via a USB flash drive and will enable consumers to watch the film with one simple click on their PC or Laptop. The PNY "Ghostbusters" USB drive will be available exclusively through Argos stores in the United Kingdom beginning now, just ahead of the 25th anniversary year of Ghostbusters in 2009.
Stefanie Summerfield, Nordic Sales and Marketing Director for PNY Technologies said "As a market leader in the USB market, PNY's focus is to offer consumers added value by providing enjoyable blockbuster content on their USB. Standard features of a PNY 2GB USB stick include 12 hours of video play, 33 hours of music and 1080 pictures. This is all in addition to getting a preloaded movie on the USB flash drive."
Andy Armstrong, UK, Managing Director for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment added, "Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is delighted to partner with PNY to offer the first full length movie preloaded on a USB flash drive and ready to play on your PC/Laptop. We are committed to giving the consumer more choice in how to experience their movies either at home or on the go."
No word on when of if the PNY "Ghostbusters" USB flash drive will become available in the United States.
Neat idea.
I haven't even gotten into HDTV and Blu-Ray and they want to push another format.
Plus I already own 2 copies of Ghostbusters on dvd, so no need to buy it regardless of how cool it is.

I wonder how many will only remember Don for that Geico commercial?
I own the Smokey & the Bandit films on DVD, so know who Jerry Reed is(was).
I wonder who might be the third one since they tend to die in 3's?
Anyways, RIP to both of them.
Bought these today from Circuit City for $2.99 each.
I really like Southland Tales.
It's one of my favorite movies.
I will say it is confusing at times and strange as well.
If you need any explanations of what is happening I maybe able to help.
I think Justin gives his best performance in this film. Even better than in Alpha Dog. The Killers musical sequence is just terrific, especially his performance.
No idea.
I've been watching the news on and off about the Hurricane Gustav.
One nice thing is how quickly Blu-Ray is coming down in price. They can be found on sale for around $15 each.
If and when I buy a Blu-Ray player it would be the PS3 as well. Already own the PS2, so don't need another videogame system. Plus PS3 is backwards compatible.
Bought these 3 today.

From the digitalbits.
Then on 12/23, Genius will debut Fanboys on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc (SRP $19.97 and $34.99).
Hm... somehow I fail to see what's funny about the first pic.

Feel free to add pics that are funny.
New York and Los Angeles (August 27, 2008) – Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) and the advertising industry's ANA/AAAA Joint Policy Committee on Broadcast Talent Union Relations (JPC) today jointly announced an agreement to extend, through March 31, 2009, the terms of their Commercials Contracts. The extension adds six months to the previous two-year extension the parties agreed to, which covered the period from 2006 to 2008. That extension was set to expire on October 29, 2008.
From the digitalbits.com rumor mill.
Don't you just love reliable industry sources? Us too. Ours have just checked in with more new DVD and Blu-ray street dates, this time for a trio of MUCH anticipated Warner titles. Here's what to expect in November and December...
12/9 - The Dark Knight
Word is, there will be FOUR different versions of The Dark Knight, including single-disc and 2-disc DVDs, a 3-disc Blu-ray and some kind of Blu-ray limited edition packaged with cool swag.
As some of you know I use DVD Profiler to inventory my dvd collection, including those dvds on my wishlist.
They recently released a new Beta release which has 2 new features.
The first is a film specific cast photo gallery.
I have loaded up different pics of Chris Marquette in the films I have in my collection/wishlist.
So when you click on an actors name in a profile, a list of dvds they star in pops up in a new window.
The blue highlighted dvd is the one that is linked to the actors photo.
So here are a few examples.
Alpha Dog
Freddy vs. Jason
Graduation
Just Friends
Another new feature is that you can put photos in a gallery for a specific dvd.
So again, I used Alpha Dog as an example.
Nope, rent a room in a house.
Kitty, just a question about the "fit screen".
Is the picture distorted or looks squished when watching a widescreen film?
My roommate has a widescreen HDTV and he has it set to widescreen all the time and when he's watching a non widescreen program everything looks stretched out and distorted. So I can only imagine that if you watch a widescreen program on a 4:3 tv set so it fills up your screen that it looks like everyone got a lot thinner. Or is it just like zoomed in and the sides gets cut off?
I was actually referring to the fact that, in my peculiar parlance, DVD's are issued in two formats now: Blu-Ray and what I like to call "normal" or normal-widescreen format ... in other words, formatted for those of us with REGULAR DVD players not and Blu-Ray type.
THANKS, Illinois for this clarification. You are a real go-to guy, here! I recall your having been that from seeing your posts on the Alpha Dog MB in IMDB.com, too.
OK, I think what threw me off is the "Normal Widescreen format".
I think you're just referring to Blu-Ray and what could be called "regular dvd", "standard dvd", or what I think best fits is "Standard Definition DVD". In other words the DVD format that's been around since 1997.
Speaking in general terms, Anamorphic Widescreen isn't exclusive to Blu-Ray and has been available on Standard Definition DVD for over 10 years now. So there really isn't anything really called "Normal-widescreen" format.
While I don't own a Blu-Ray dvd player or even a widescreen tv yet, my understanding is that all Widescreen ratio films are released only in the Widescreen Format. Of course older TV shows/films that are in the 4:3 aspect ration ("Full screen" is presented in that format, or what I hate is what is called MAR (Modified Aspect Ratio) where they would actually blow up the original image to fill the widescreen tv screen which results in things being cut off.
