It is snowing really hard in Dallas right now. I've never seen it snow this much and its actually sticking.  People are making real snow mans and not just mini dirty, icy ones! It's exciting!

Yes, I'm predicting that Up in the Air will get best screen play since it has at the golden globes and screen actors guild. I was really happy for anna kendrick's nomination.

By the way, here is a list of the films and their categories.... http://www.moviefone.com/oscars-academy … nee-winner

Yeah, I'd like to know why, if he feels comfortable answering.

Here's why I mainly loved it: the dialog.  I love it when people in movies talk like real people, but maybe just a wee bit more clever than most.  I thought it was beautifully written and acted.  I really thought I was going to hate Natalie, but I ended up loving her and feeling very sad that she got smacked square in the face with real life at such a young age.  And I liked the way it ended because it left us believing that Ryan was going to take Natalie's advice and use some of his miles to actually go and see some of the world.  (I also liked that he gave a bunch to his sister and brother-in-law.)  Since he lived so frugally, I bet he had tons of money saved up and could just retire and finally go out and enjoy himself.  And now that he has fallen in love --- even though he got his heart broken --- he knows he can.  And so hopefully now he'll go out and love some more (to quote Maude in Harold & Maude).

So I don't see it as a downer at all.  I see it as a beginning.

Completely agree with what you said. Especially about Natalie.  Wasn't expecting to like her but ended up liking her alot.  I felt her character development was really great, accurate and played well by Anna Kendrick.  I was glad to see her nominated for an oscar for the role.

Very neat you got an email from Chris Lowell TeeJay.  I always loved him on Veronica Mars! smile

TeeJay, agree with you on avatar. Love the movie, but didn't deserve the best picture nomination.  I feel personally it was nomianted for the technological aspect of filming and visually and not so much for the storyline.  I can't believe there were 10 nominations! Kind of unfair to the other categories don't you think?! lol

Super cool news.  Great commercial and great for Sean!

What do you all think of this year oscar nominations?  There were an interesting variety.  I was happy for Jeremy Renner and also for District 9.

#1132 Re: Square Eyes » Post your recent DVD purchases » 07 Feb 10 :: 21:50

I'm tempted to buy district 9 and star trek once I can pay my bills off for school supplies for my classroom... I was happy to see District 9 nominated for oscars.

#1133 Re: Square Eyes » Lost » 07 Feb 10 :: 21:49

In my personal opinion I feel the creators didn't expect it to last after season one and that's why it's gotten out of control.  The first season is incredibly different in mood and story from the rest of the seasons.  I still watch it because I love the characters.  I was a little dissappointed with the season premiere but that's pretty usual.  I usually start liking the episodes towards the middle after the build up.

I have them recorded. Can't wait to see it eventually! Love all the pics!

Very powerful statement. Thank you for sharing.

#1137 Re: Square Eyes » Amber Tamblyn » 29 Jan 10 :: 18:35

It was a really great interview.  She's so honest about her career and the movies she has done. I could see how she forgot some about Joan, its been a long time since then and its probably healthy for actors to shake of their roles. I've heard of some actors saying its really hard to leave characters behind sometimes and it can affect relationships they have with their friends and family.

From the interview I watched Stephanie Daley.  Wow! What great performances by both Amber and Tilda.  It's not your average Lifetime movie. I 'enjoyed' watching it as much as I could because of both their performances.

THanks for letting us know! I was wondering when that would come out! May need to treat myself next month!

#1140 Re: Chris On Screen » Fanboys » 25 Jan 10 :: 21:03

Susanna - I agree with your statement on the characters, it definately wasn't so much about them as it was just about what they were obsessed with! big_smile  IT is really heartfealt for that aspect.  IThe director definately put a lot of heart into the movie to show how much he loved star wars, and not just the movie but the entire culture  surrounding it.

Samsy - The poledance webisdoe is hi-larious!!! lol  Everyone should watch it!

I couldn't remember if it was a t / d at the end! Thanks smile  That is a coincidence!  Germany is really beautiful. I didn't make it to Berlin but would like to one day.

Love the pictures of the dog Deb! That's hillarious! Sending it to everyone in my family!

That's so awesome Deb! Very cool!  Keeping fingers crossed for possibilities of an interview.

#1143 Re: Chris On Screen » Fanboys » 25 Jan 10 :: 05:34

I agree with everything you sayd Susanna! It was a nice little movie and had some fun characters and I felt like Chris's character grounded everyone.  It was a good cast mix.

#1144 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Random JoA Stuff... » 22 Jan 10 :: 23:27

I forgot about SmooveGGod. He was a good one! They were always creative with the characters of "God" and how they presented God to Joan.

#1145 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 22 Jan 10 :: 23:23

Thanks for the congrats everyone. appreciate it, and yes Deb it is a huge relief!

Teejay, Germany was one of my most favorite places I visited while in Europe! I have cousins in Stuttgard and it was just beautiful. I can see why you're biased! I would mind living there myself!

#1146 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Random JoA Stuff... » 22 Jan 10 :: 03:02

I knew Kathryn Joosten played the President's secretary on West Wing (always loved her character on that) but I had no idea that she was in Desperate Housewives!  Due to unemployment I've been watching LIfetime more than necessary! I really like her character! She's such a great actress. I always liked her version of 'God' too, I think her, Kris Lemche's, and the loner loser kid god (in the episode back to the garden) were always my favorites.

It's pretty sad how financing has dried up.  But more people with an arts focus getting into it and cheaper distributions streams are wonderful twists.  Add in viral marketing, which is virtually free, and this new paradigm could save indie film...

We should start our own production company.  hmm

And we'd only cast Chris in all our male leads!  :dancing:

That would be awesome Deb! Where's our money tree planted??? big_smile

Crazy to think that even with the name "Scott" production companies put him through the hoops.  Its a crazy industry.  I hope financially things get better for everyone, but especially independent films need to be supported.  They shut down AFI Dallas because of finances, and only re-open it when the festival is back.  Which, I don't know if it even came this year.

#1148 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 22 Jan 10 :: 02:54

I would be bored in Europe over Dallas any day! He's certainly right on that point!

I finally heard back and was accepted a part time reading teacher position for the remaining school year at a charter school! It's a good starting position with potential growth into a full time teaching position in the following school year if everything works out alright.  The school has a great reputation. I'll be working with 2nd graders!
