This is a complete blind buy.
Got it from the Walmart $5 bargain bin.
Got a 2-pack of the first 2 seasons for $19.99 at Target yesterday.
More new pics of the Playmates toys.
So looking forward to buying the Enterprise.
Sorry for the language in the following post.
It appears some select media was shown 25 minutes of J.J. Abram's new Star Trek film in order to fix some of negative dissent around the film. Jonathan Llyr from Hardcore Nerdity was able to see it and offered his impressions:
I've been skeptical about this movie from the beginning, but was trying to remain cautiously optimistic about the whole thing. I like Abrams, and never had any doubt that he would make a fine action picture. But would it be Star Trek? The answer is - holy fuck yes.
This movie is going to blown your brains out. I was gob-smacked at the production values, size and scope. All of the actors (with one notable exception) are bang on. I still have a few issues with the look of the bridge and the ship, but those issues have shifted to the background.
Since I haven't yet seen the whole thing, I have no idea if the entire movie holds together. But from what I've seen, we are all going to have a great ride.
And man are you ever going to love Chekov. Never thought I would type that.
Looks like he had a good time. I put my full faith into Abrams after his involvement with Cloverfield, Lost, MI:3, etc. He knows how to excite audiences and I have no doubt he will continue to do so with Star Trek.
Star Trek is due out May 8th, 2009.
Little bit of news about the U.S. Blu-ray release.
Twilight, the teen vampire romance, will be released on Blu-ray high-def disc on March 21, but will only be available in Blu at Target and Best Buy for almost two months after release.
http://www.tvpredictions.com/twilight012209.htm
Regarding a 3-disc edition.
Not officially in the U.S. >> Unless there is some sort of store exclusive from Best Buy, Target or Walmart.
From videobusiness:
Summit Home Entertainment confirmed it will release runaway hit Twilight on DVD on March 21 (prebook Feb. 3), but most stores will have access solely to the two-disc edition, priced at $32.99.
The supplier acknowledged that retail access to a single-disc SKU will be restricted to rental stores and a very limited sell-through account base, attributing the decision to the devotion of Twilight's mostly female fan base.
There also will be a Blu-ray version, priced at $34.99.
"The Twilight fan is someone who is looking for more than just the movie, because of the large amount of repeat viewership that we got with the film," Summit Home Entertainment president Steve Nickerson said. "Many of them have seen the movie more than once and are looking for more than what they can get on a basic release. We feel this is the best way to go to market."
Stephenie Meyer, the author of the best-selling novel on which the movie is based, has written about the two-disc Twilight release on her official Web site, www.stepheniemeyer.com.

I would never even think about going into Chicago to go see a movie. I just don't like big cities.
Anyways, it really doesn't bode too well for the movie.
For instance, Southland Tales opened up on 63 theaters in the U.S.. And that one had many big names including The Rock, Seann William Scott, Justin Timberlake and Kevin Smith. And yet that only made $275,380 in the U.S.
Now granted that it got mixed reviews and very little promotion.
The only way that Fanboys could do much better is if it gets great reviews or makes a ton of money in those 8 theaters then it might increase the chances of more theaters. Otherwise there is a chance that it could make very little at the box office.
Is Obama a Trekkie???
http://trekmovie.com/2009/01/20/star-tr … ion-event/
As reported by TrekMovie (and elsewhere) Barack Obama is the first Trekkie President, having made several references to Star Trek in the past. And it just so happens that Star Trek worked its way into an event on his inauguration day today, unfortunately it was another Star Wars/Star Trek conflation.
Obama, Jedi or Vulcan?
This morning Bishop T.D. Jakes, a pastor of a Dallas megachurch, was the keynote speaker for the Inauguration Day Prayer Service at the historic St. John's Church on Lafayette Square, across from the White House. The Obamas were in attendance and after giving a reading from the Bible, Jakes decided to try to 'get hip.' In an articled titled "At pre-inaugural church service, Jakes mixes up 'Star Wars' and 'Star Trek'" The Dallas Morning News reports what happened next:Jakes then tried to make the point a different way:
"I say to you as my son who is here today, my 14-year-old son – he probably would not quote Scripture. He probably would use Star Trek instead, and so I say, 'May the force be with you.' "
Swing and a miss Bishop Jakes. As a Trekkie, and comic collector, Obama surely noticed that as a Star Wars quote. Jakes should have gone with "live long and prosper." The Dallas Morning news asked Jakes if he realized his mistake and said that he heard from his son who who showed him his error. Jakes noted "So much for trying to be young."
Tahir attends inauguration
There is another Trek connection to today's inauguration activities. The Associated Press of Pakistan reports that Pakistani actor Faran Tahir (Capt. Robau in the new Star Trek movie), was one of the invited guests of inauguration of President Obama…Surely this can inspire one of those 'Facts About Captain Robau.'

I really liked that song that John Williams wrote for this. Really beautiful.
You could tell he was so nervous when he was repeating the oath of office.
Bought these today from Circuit City.
Going out of Business Sale
20% off >Paid $7.99
>Paid $11.99
I'm getting hooked on this show called "The Legend of the Seeker".
It's kind of like Hercules meets Lord of the Rings.
The guy that plays the wizard/magician is the same guy who played the pilot in The Road Warrior & Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
It's in the low 20's today, very windy though - so the wind chill is around 9F above.
Sunday & Monday will be in the upper teens with lows in the lower teens. Not too bad compared to last Thursday & Friday.
I saw that plane landing in the water on the news. Really terrific job by the pilot. Like they said on the news, things could have gone wrong in the landing - such as the engines digging into the water and with the torque could have caused it to break up. Or if there was ice in the river it would have broken up the fuselage and that would have caused the plane to sink very quickly.
I've got 2 Star Wars Monopoly games as well.
A Lord of the Rings one too.
And a UPS monopoly
Bought this on clearance for $10 from Walmart this morning. Great deal! Originally it was close to $30.
I also bought a 2-pack action figure set for $5.00
IESB.net has a clip up.

Kind of knew this was coming.
Circuit City is closing down all remaining stores.
Bankrupt electronics retailer Circuit City Inc. said Friday it has asked for court approval to close its remaining 567 U.S. stores and sell all its merchandise.
The company said it has 34,000 employees.
"We are extremely disappointed by this outcome," James Marcum, acting CEO for Circuit City, said in a statement. "We were unable to reach an agreement with our creditors and lenders to structure a going-concern transaction in the limited timeframe available, and so this is the only possible path for our company."
In a filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Circuit City - the No. 2 electronics retailer after Best Buy (BBY, Fortune 500) - said it had reached an agreement with four companies to start the liquidation process.
The company said the sale would begin Saturday and run until March 31, pending court approval.
The retailer's Web site and call center will cease to operate after Jan. 18.
Circuit City said employees will receive 60 days notice of the termination.
Employees who are laid off earlier will get pay and benefits for the 60-day period beginning Friday, the retailer said.
Those who remain with the company to assist with the liquidation, will receive pay and benefits.
Circuit City also operates about 765 retail stores and dealer outlets in Canada. The company said its Canadian operations, which employ 3,000 workers, will continue to operate.
Oh yeah, temps in May/June are very warm. Should be 60's to 70's in May and warmer in June.
April/May can have lots of rain though.
We usually start getting warmer in March & April with highs getting into the 40's & 50's and sometimes 60's.
Finally the temps are starting to go up. Just slightly, right now it's -22F
Yesterdays high here was -9F.
I just hope this is the coldest it will get this Winter. I'm not going to complain if the lows go down to the single digits because that's nothing compared to this.
It's -22F at 7:15 AM.
Joliet, which is just south of here, set a record when it got down to -31. Before that it was -19F in 1977.
At least today we should finally get above 0.
You should turn your water on a little so that the pipes don't freeze up. Worst thing to happen is a pipe bursts.
My landlord has the thermostat set at 64F, so it's a tad chilly downstairs. Up here in my room it's 75F.
Now I know this may seem a tad weird, but I actually have the bedroom window open to regulate the heat. Or else it would get near or above 80F in here.
