It just keeps getting colder and colder here.

Right now it's -16.

Predicted to go down to -23.

They say Friday's high will be 6 above. But why do I feel that it'll be colder or that that won't happen until very late in the day.

#377 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 16 Jan 09 :: 00:21

I'm sure some of you heard of the plane crashing into the Hudson River this afternoon.

The good news is that everyone made it out.

Reason they are giving is that birds were sucked into both engines.

#378 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 15 Jan 09 :: 23:46

I don't think we are even going to get close to what they predicted for today.

Right now it's -9.

And now they're predicting -20 for a low tonight.

#381 Re: Square Eyes » Ricardo Montalban has died » 15 Jan 09 :: 00:52

He was also funny in the first Naked Gun movie.

It really is sad to think how many people who have something to do with Star Trek have died over the past 10 years or so.

Ricardo Montalban, who gained fame portraying Mr. Roarke on the television series "Fantasy Island," has died at the age of 88.

The Mexican-born actor died at his home in Los Angeles, the Associated Press quotes L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti as saying. Montalban lived in Garcetti's district in L.A.

Montalban had been a star in Mexican movies when MGM brought him to Hollywood in 1946. He was cast in the leading role opposite Esther Williams in 'Fiesta,' and also starred with the actress in 'On an Island with You' and 'Neptune's Daughter.'

Beginning in 1978, Montalban played the faintly mysterious, white-suited Mr. Roarke, who presided over an island resort where visitors were able to fulfill their lifelong dreams. "Fantasy Island" received high ratings for most of its six-year run on ABC and still appears in reruns.

I thought it maybe interesting to see where we all live.

Don't be specific for obvious reasons, but provide a link to the general location of where you live and if you can provide some details on things nearby.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=honeytree … 1&ct=title

If you scroll down from that location along Independence Blvd you'll see a street called Alexander Circle. That is a Shell gas station where I get my gas.

You'll notice that I live near an industrial park. From the starting location move right along Naperville Rd to Marquette Dr. The large building at that corner is Sharp Electronics. At the corner of Marquette & S. Bolingbrook Dr. is a newly remodeled McDonalds.

Now follow S. Bolingbrook Dr./ Route 53. The very large parking lot just south of I-55 is an auto auction place.

Now continue Northbound on Route 53. At the corner of Route 53 & E. Briarcliff Rd. there is a shopping center just to the south of that on the eastside. In that is a Walmart I shop at.

Continue North on Route 53 to E. Boughton Rd. Now go eastward on Boughton until you get to the 355 Tollway. You'll see 2 shopping centers. The one closest to 355 is the Meijer I do grocery shopping at. Across the Janes Ave. is the newer shopping center with a Circuit City, Barnes & Noble, Hallmark, Macy's and a whole bunch more.

Now if you westward on Boughton this time until you get all the way to N. Weber Road. You'll see 3 shopping centers. The one at the 1 O'Clock position has a Target and a Jewel Food Store. The one at roughly 8 O'Clock position has another Meijer, Borders, Home Depot and the now closed Circuit City. The one called "Bolingbrook Center" has the Best Buy I shop at. Also in the Bolingbrook Center is another Hallmark.

You'll notice a small airport near that intersection as well. Basically small planes like Piper's and Cessna's take off from there and they approach the airport by going right over the Best Buy store.

If you wish feel free to add a link to the general location of where you live and give some details so others can get an idea of where you live.

I am so sick of this winter. Too much snow and now brutally cold.

This is the Weather Channel forecast for the next few days.

Today: Falling temps from the low teens.
Tonight's Low -7

Thursday:
High -1
Low: -15

Friday:
High: 8
Low: 7

Can't wait till Saturday.
Saturday:
High: 23
Low: 15

They said the low at Devil's Lake in Minnesota this morning was -49 - not the wind chill, the actual air temperature.
I don't know how you could even just do basic things in that kind of temps. They showed where someone threw water into the air and it froze in mid-air before hitting the ground.

#385 Re: Square Eyes » Twilight (contains spoilers for all books and the movies) » 13 Jan 09 :: 15:48

SRP on the 2-disc set is around $33.

According to the dvdempire.com listing.

#386 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 13 Jan 09 :: 15:47

At least they canceled the Blizzard Warning for this morning.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that it's going to be frigid here on Thursday & Friday. Highs near 0 with lows around -10.

I just want to get through those two days, then the 20's will feel like a heat wave compared to that.

#387 Re: Square Eyes » Misc Stuff » 13 Jan 09 :: 00:11

Woody Harrelson:

All I know him from is Cheers and 2 movies, Natural Born Killers and The Cowboy Way.

#388 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 12 Jan 09 :: 21:00

Now we're under a Blizzard Warning until Noon Tuesday. 2 to 5 inches of snow with winds up to 35 MPH.

#389 Re: Square Eyes » Weinstein in more financial trouble » 12 Jan 09 :: 20:53

Perhaps if they would have released that Kill Bill: The Bloody Affair set that was shown at some industry show a few years ago they may have garnered some more dvd sales.

I know I bought a TV Guide comedy collection that Genius distributed a few years ago and the quality was terrible. Plus they replaced the theme music. From that I've tried to stay away from buying dvds released by Genius.

#390 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 12 Jan 09 :: 08:50

Gee it's going to get cold here on Thursday.

According to the Weather Channel the high on Thursday will just be 4 degrees above zero, with Thursday Night's low will be -9.

Now some local stations are saying that Thursdays high maybe only -2.

The only good thing is that it's a short lived cold snap and that by Saturday it'll be back up to the mid 20's.

The good thing is that it's not even going to get as cold as what Alaska has been going through this Winter. I saw on the news that their highs are only around -25 to -45, that's not the wind chill - the actual air temperature.
I don't even know how you could even live up there with temps that cold. I've even heard that the extreme cold actually turns gasoline into a jelly.

EDIT: Now we're under a Blizzard Watch for late tonight into Tuesday morning. Not for lots of snow, but blowing & drifting snow creating white out conditions.
I can't even remember the last time we had a Blizzard Watch go into effect.

#391 Re: Square Eyes » Post your recent DVD purchases » 11 Jan 09 :: 20:54

OK, I didn't buy the following.

Some neighbor must have had a fight or something because they threw out some boxes of stuff. Well one of the boxes was full of dvds.

Most of these are in very bad shape, lots of scratches. How people can treat things they own so badly I don't understand.

Anyways, this is what I got from the box.

#393 Re: Square Eyes » Post your recent DVD purchases » 09 Jan 09 :: 23:53

Yup, I bought this one today.

1433003h.jpg

Was it worth the $20+ what I paid for it, no. But it does have a chuckle or two in it. The best part is at the very end when they sing their version of "I'm f***ing Mat Damon". The 2 actors that stood out the most to me was Matt Lanter & Nicole Parker.

I really didn't need to see Beuwolfs naked butt in that one scene.

Their must be lots of fans of this movie, because on Monday when I went to the store there was at least 6 copies on display, today there was the last one which is the one I bought.

#394 Re: Square Eyes » The 29th Annual Razzie Award Nominations » 08 Jan 09 :: 05:34

I agree with you Simon regarding that some of those nominated don't really deserve to be on that list and it's done to just bash them.

I also believe they nominate flops or disappointing sequels/remakes because it's likely people have heard of them and it's a way to get publicity. Whereas if they only really nominated the really terrible films that nobody ever even heard of then where's the free publicity in that.

This way they can say such and such blockbuster is the worst of the year or pick a well known actor/actress as the worst instead of someone you've never heard of in your life.

If i was picking the worst film it would easily be The Hottie & The Nottie. Just by the ads I could tell how bad it was. And Paris Hilton for worst actress.  Larry the Cable Guy as worst actor.

#395 Re: Square Eyes » Post your recent DVD purchases » 07 Jan 09 :: 20:49

Bought these today. I had a $10 off coupon good for $40 or more on general merchandise at Meijer. So used that coupon to get these for about $15 each season.

#399 Re: Off Topic Stuff » What do you collect? » 05 Jan 09 :: 23:18

I would really like to collect movie posters, but in the past they always got damaged too easily.

Through the early 1990's I used to send off for autographed pics of cast from certain TV series. I still got them and the top of my head I know I have Star Trek: Next Generation, MacGyver, Family Matters, Step by Step, Wonder Years, Perfect Strangers and Seaquest which also includes a letter from them with the SeaQuest logo on it as well.

My mother back in the 1970's sent off for one from The Jeffersons, still have that as well. The entire cast photo, and with many of that cast gone now it's nice to look at once in a while.
