Should be any easy one.

One of my favorites, may he rest in peace.

I didn't even know he was sick, so this is shocking to me.

Really too bad that they released such a lousy anniversary edition of Tootsie, now he won't be available to do any extras for a better edition. Stupid studio. Can't take for granted that anyone will be around in the future, so get them to do dvd extras asap.

Nope neither one of those.

Clue for that one: A co-star flys planes in real life.

I don't have the capability to do screencaps myself, but found some on the net.

Here is the first one.

Clue #1: From a 1960's TV Series

Just watched Firewall. Very good film.

Paul was menacing as the villain, he even kills some of his own men.  Ford is good as usual and is very believable as the reluctant victim who is forced into stealing for the bank robbers. I am also so glad they didn't hurt the family's dog at all.

The 2 child actors are very good, especially the boy.

Of course at the end Ford kicks butt and the final fight is completely believable and based in "real life", unlike some films today that go too overboard.

Even though this has to do a lot with stealing money via computer I really liked that they didn't show a lot of scenes of just computer screens. I found it real funny when Ford was taking back the money via computer and saying to Paul "There goes another 20 million" until it was all gone.

If I had to rate it I would give it a sold B.

To Live & Die in L.A. is a very good thriller/action film. Owned it on Laser years ago.

John Q - I've seen bits of it on cable, but never the full movie.

Firewall is a blind buy.

#1044 Re: Square Eyes » Why do some care so much about these things » 23 May 08 :: 16:18

Basically someone just accuses someone of being a stan.

Examples of a stan from urbandictionary.com:

A Typical Kobe Bryant Stan would say something like.
"Kobe Bryant scored 81 points last night. Kobe could beat God himself in a game of 1 on 1 hoops. To hell with Michael Jordan or Wilt Chamberlain, they arent on Kobe's level!"

an overobsessed fan to the point of following a star around.

It is formed from the words stalker and fan.

Stalker + fan = stan.
I'm trying to watch a Amerie video and all of these Beyonce stans keep saying "Amerie sucks, Beyonce's better."

#1045 Re: Square Eyes » Why do some care so much about these things » 23 May 08 :: 16:11

From urban dictionary;

Stan

"a "stan" is an overzealous maniacal fan for any celebrity or athlete."

I didn't know what it was either until I saw someone call someone that on IMDB. So I looked it up.

Just posting a few rants.

1. Why do some care about box-office?

Personally I could care less how much a film makes at the box office, but it seems many do for some reason. They'll scream with glee that a certain movie is making a killing at the box office, while others will be full of delight when a film flops at the box office. Why? Is it the whole "race-horse" mentality that unless you're #1 then you don't matter and are a complete and utter loser/failure?

2. Awards.

Almost the same thing with the box-office. I can see the importance to some about certain awards, such as the Oscars, but again it seems to some that if a certain film didn't win then it's a loser/failure. When only a few films are even nominated, those that are nominated should be praised for their excellence in those fields. But there are many good films each year that aren't even nominated for anything, and sometimes these are better then those that were nominated. I'll admit that when I was younger I used to follow awards quite closely, but it has become less important if a film wins an award or not. Plus films today just don't seem to be as remarkable as films made decades ago.

3. People picking movies apart.

Why does it seem to me that people just love to pick apart a movie more today then before? They'll find every little thing wrong with a film and only point those things out. It seems that they don't go to movies to be entertained anymore, but go to nitpick every detail in the film.

I could, if I want to, find faults with just about every movie ever made. Scenes I don't like or actors who don't give a good performance. I look at the film as a whole first, and if those faults don't completely ruin the film then it doesn't really ruin the film for me at all.

4. People who think that their "opinion" is the only correct one and puts down others with opposing opinions.

This is mostly found on IMDB, but I just hate when people think that their opinion is the only correct one and think those with opposing opinions are idiots/morons or a favorite term used on IMDB "retard". What in the hell is wrong with these people?

Instead of posting something like "I think this movie is crap.", they post it as fact "This movie is crap."

Or they put down fans of a movie and automatically call them "fanboys", or even worse a "stan" if someone really likes a certain star.

I just wish that people wouldn't get so hung up up box-office & awards and go see a movie regardless of those things and try and enjoy movies instead of being an amateur "back of the movie theater" critic.

#1047 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 21 May 08 :: 19:56

Went out today and put some gas in my car. First time I've seen gas over $4 a gallon around here. BP near me was $4.15 a gallon, so went down a block and Shell was $3.99 a gallon. Spent $19 just to fill up and it wasn't even to half a tank before.

#1048 Re: Square Eyes » Speed Racer discussion » 19 May 08 :: 20:04

Larry, a question.

Since the movie is a flop, whom loses money on it?

And do they get to take it off on taxes as a business loss?

My guess would be the production companies. Which for SR are:
    * Warner Bros. Pictures
    * Anarchos Productions (in association with)
    * Silver Pictures
    * Village Roadshow Pictures (in association with)
according to IMDB.

Also on IMDB people are throwing around that including marketing that SR cost 300 million to make. I have read on other sites that it cost 120 million to make. I could see maybe 50-80 million more in marketing, but not 180 million in marketing. Could it really have cost 180 million to market the film?

#1049 Re: Square Eyes » Speed Racer discussion » 19 May 08 :: 08:12

For me, the real star has always been the Mach 5. Kind of like Kitt in Knight Rider. For me it wasn't really about Speed or his family or even the races, it was always about watching the Mach 5 using it's gadgets to either win the race or defeat the bad guys. To try and make a movie that really is all about a car and what it can do is rather difficult.

I know I will buy it on DVD no matter what. Hopefully they will release a great special edition.

#1050 Re: Square Eyes » Speed Racer discussion » 18 May 08 :: 21:20

Just making some points about TJ's comments.

I haven't seen the movie, so my comments are based on the original cartoon and what I've seen in trailers or read online.

1. FX. I kind of agree with you about the fx. As far as I can recall there were no over the top tracks like they showed in the movie. Most of the races were either either cross country type of races or on real life type of tracks. So what the Mach 5 raced in the movie is more closely what happened in the cartoon. I wonder if they came up with the Mach 6 just do to those crazy type of tracks, because I can't recall such tracks in the cartoon at all.

2. The cartoon featured real corny dialogue as well, so it seems it stays true to the cartoon in that respect.

3. The brother. The brother was annoying and used for comic relief in the cartoon as well, so again it's staying true to the cartoon in that respect too.

I will also bring up something as well.

While the cars are similar to the cartoon, they aren't exactly the same.
The Mach 5 was much larger fins in the back compared to the movie version.

The Racer X car also has much larger fins in the back compared to the movie version.

The Snake Oiler car is completely different in the movie then in the cartoon.

Perhaps these changes in the cars is also putting off fans of the original cartoon.
