Remember how I was pointing out how I didn't get a cold yet this winter.
Well, I have one now.
Runny nose, sore throat, eyes hurt, and I'm achy all over.
Here's the Playmates toy line packaging and sales sheets.
FYI: These are from Japan, but it should be a good indicator of what the English packaging will look like.
In case you're wondering why the Bridge playset has fewer pieces than what the previous picture showed is because you get more Bridge pieces with the 4 inch figures.
I will say that from a collector's stand point that the packaging for the Communicator, Phaser and Tricorder is bad. It's bad because it's obvious that the toy has batteries installed to hear the sounds. So to protect the toy you have to open the packaging, which on a blister-pack is impossible to do without ruining the packaging. The old Playmates toys came in boxes, which made it much easier to remove the batteries from the toy.
Here is a quote from Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek:The Next Generation)
Because what has happened more and more is that some movies are essentially promotions for the DVD sales, and movie releases don't do as well as DVD.
And he's basically correct.
Look at it this way, movies are only in theaters for a few months max. But once it's out on dvd, it's there for years and years. And likely will be on any future video format as well for decades to come.
So even if a film is a flop at the box-office, in the long run any movie will turn a profit eventually.
And that's not including tv rights, pay-per-view and any other distribution areas I missed.
I'm sure Larry knows this as well, that even blockbusters very rarely break even on just it's box office receipts. First you got the cost of making the film, marketing costs, print costs, the movie theaters share, back-end deals where certain people get a % of the profit and perhaps some other things I can't think of right now.
So after all of that the studio can lose money on just the box office. That's why merchandising, advertising tie-ins, and dvd, tv rights are so important.
This reminds me of Spaceballs where 'Yogurt' says ""Merchandising, merchandising, where the REAL money is made..."
I remember the lawsuit about Coming to America where some guy was suing Paramount to get a share of the profits. But Paramount said that the film didn't make a profit, even though it was a huge hit. Like I posted above, even a blockbuster can lose at the box-office.
Having a nice winter thaw this week.
Yesterday we were in the 50's and it melted a vast majority of the snow. Only thing left is the mounds of snow by driveways, parking lots and the sides of the roads.
Today is a little cooler, around 40F.
Warmer tomorrow, into the 50's again.
Tuesday is going to be warm, with a high of around 66F.
Of course this can't last, towards the end of next week it'll be back into the 30's.
It is so nice to see the grass again, even if it's a dead and brown.

Kyle Newman, director of the upcoming Star Wars-themed movie Fanboys, said that the future DVD will include several extras, including a key deleted scene and commentaries by several cast members and producers.
"We have Kristen [Bell], Dan Fogler, Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Ernie Cline and Adam Goldberg, the writers, myself, Matthew Perniciaro, and there might be another producer," Newman said in a group interview in Los Angeles last week. "It's like eight people, so it's a very fun and colorful commentary. We're not just sitting around talking about filters and gels; we're talking about funny stuff that happened during the movie."
Newman said that the DVD would also feature a deleted scene that he wished could have fit into the film that references another fantasy classic. "There's a great scene where they pull up to the ranch and there's a door guard, who's played by my friend Dan Spink, who introduced me to Matt, who had the rights to the script," Newman said. "I feel like in all of these movies you have the threshold guardian, and he's the guy at the gate."
"He's got six fingers, but Sam's character tries to say that his nickname is Inigo Montoya," Newman explained, referring to The Princess Bride. "This guy shows up, and he's got six fingers. It just throws him for a loop, and they have this conversation about sixes. That was fun."
Newman added that viewers will see more material from the original director-fanboy, Kevin Smith, who has a small cameo in the theatrical version of the film.
"There's extended Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes stuff, which Kevin wrote," Newman revealed. "That was fun, so you see the full version of that. There's so much great behind-the-scenes stuff that I don't even know what was shot, because they were doing so many fun things off camera while I was shooting that, every time I had a break, our behind-the-scenes guy was doing all these great things with them." Fanboys opens Feb. 6.
Sorry if already posted.
Walmart has a new $4 display up. Some good titles, but most are in Full Screen.
Was able to find this one in the display. Bought it this morning.
Amazon wants $24.99 for it.
In case you were wondering how to save the pics off IMDB and other sites that don't allow right-click save.
I use Firefox. Click on the File on the toolbar. Click on "Save Page as" and make sure the Web Page, Complete is chosen in the "Save as Type" field. Choose where you want to save the pic on your computer.
Once saved to your computer, look up the folder where you saved it to.
You should see two folders, one with htm and the other one with 'files' extension. Open up the 'files' one and the pics from the saved webpage will be there.
These??
I don't know if these are new to you or not, so sorry if their not.
The reason why I took down the pics in the first place is because they (may) belong to The Official Star Wars blog and on that site it has a copyright of Lucasfilm.
I didn't want you guys getting into problems for something I posted before.
The link works for me.
Here is direct links to the pics.

ComingSoon.net got a chance to chat with Fogler, Huntington and Marquette about the film, their off-screen love of "Star Wars" and what it means to be a fanboy.
Its' from the link found on the starwarsblog I linked to.
Roughly near the bottom of the page, it has a link to the Flickr page.
"Check out all the photos here:
Fanboys Premiere - San Francisco (via Starwars.com Flickr Blog)"
I did note that the starwarsblog is copyrighted by Lucasfilm, but I don't see anything on Flickr that these are copyrighted by Lucasfilm.
Since they didn't appear on the starwarsblog itself, I would assume that these are fine to use under the "Fair Use" laws, but I would check that out carefully first.
The Open Road with Justin Timberlake is being screened in Europe somewhere(I think Berlin) this weekend Febuary 7 & 8th.

I've removed the actual pics because I'm not sure if it's ok to post here or not.
So here is the link to 3 pics of Chris at the premiere.
There is an interview about Fanboys on trekmovie.com with the director.
On Friday, after a long wait, the geeky comedy Fanboys finally hits theaters. The road trip film about Star Wars fans traveling across country to Skywalker Ranch also has some Star Trek elements, not the least of which is a cameo from William Shatner. So TrekMovie decided to check in with director Kyle Newman to find out why Trekkies should see Fanboys. We also have an exclusive image of the Trekkies in Fanboys.
Set in 1998, Fanboys tells the story of a group of Star Wars fans who travel across the country to break into George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch and steal a copy of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace before its release. They are doing this to be the first 'fanboys' to see the film and because one of the friends is dying of cancer and wants to see it before he dies. During the road trip the gang have a number of encounters, including a couple of run-ins with Trekkies (featuring a fight scene complete with lirpas). The friends also eventually get some help from William Shatner, playing (of course) William Shatner.
The film's cast is mostly unknowns, but one of the core friends is played by Kristen Bell (aka Veronica Mars). There are also a number of big genre cameos including Bill Dee Williams, Carrie Fisher, Kevin Smith and the aforementioned William Shatner. Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, Superbad) plays the leader of the Trekkies 'Admiral Seasholtz' who the Star Wars fanboys have to face down on their travels.
Fanboys Director talks Trek
Fanboys was directed by indie film maker Kyle Newman, who is clearly Star Wars fan. The film pokes some good matured fun as it shows the ongoing 'battle' of Star Wars fans and Star Trek fans, but according to the director, it is all from love. TrekMovie spoke briefly with Newman about the Star Trek that is inside Fanboys.TrekMovie: Obviously you are a Star Wars fanboy, but are you also a Trekkie?
Kyle Newman: I am a Trekkie, or Trekkier. I've seen all of the films and am a huge fan of the Original and Next Generation series. I was even a member of Starfleet growing up and loved watching the Star Trek marathons on TV. I collect the old Gold Key comics too. And I am immensely excited for JJ Abrams' new Trek. The cast that he's assembled is incredible! Zachary Quinto is a friend and I am so excited that he is playing Spock!
TrekMovie: So why should Trekkies see Fanboys?
Kyle Newman: Trekkies should see Fanboys because there is more William Shatner in our film than the new Star Trek movie! The man's a legend and it was honor for him to grace our set. And Seth Rogen plays the world's biggest Trekker. You can't go wrong there. He's also a fellow Trekker in real life along with cast-mate Jay Baruchel. It's good clean sci-fi franchise banter!
Pics from the premiere can be seen at links below.
