I'll e-mail you when I'm home, Deb. I'm still at work and busy, so I can't chat now. Sorry! Not sure how long I'll be in the office today, but I wanted to get a few things done before I leave. I also really need to buy a few things at the grocery store before I get home, so I will probably not be home before 8. And you'll be at lunch then, so maybe we can talk after 9. I'm sorry you're having a cluster f*** day... We had a power outage here at work for half an hour and it took another half hour to get all the servers back up and running, so things haven't been running smoothly here either.

Well, the next chapter that you haven't read yet will be November, and that's one of mine. And while I already have something like 17 pages written, it's still not finished. I really hope to get back to it since I pretty much already mapped out what I wanna write. Now I just need to sit down and let the characters talk to me. I hope some of that will happen over the weekend.

A different, unrelated question: Can you come up with a good tagline for Fanboys?

#8203 Re: All About Chris » Your Chrissues of the Day » 19 Oct 06 :: 15:09

Yeah, you see, work your way up with the TV coincidences until they become reality coincidences. And then, one day, you'll be hit with a real life Chris coincidence like we were when I was in Atlanta. big_smile

My Chrissue of the day is that real life is such a bore and I wish I was back on the set of ROTN, watching Chris being goofy. And somehow, while we just had a power outage here at work for about half an hour and I was "unstapling" documents (yeah, I know, so very exciting!), I thought about how much more fun it would be if I could be either a professional website designer or a person working in advertising movies, making movie posters and such. But I guess you gotta go with what you know, so I'm stuck being a Senior Clinical Research Associate... Because for some reason I just have this really simple Fanboys design stuck in my head that I think would work very well on a t-shirt. And I really wanna do something with it. But, I mean... How many more Chris-related t-shirts do I need? (Though wouldn't it be cool if the movie started over here and I would go see it in the theater with a big FANBOYS logo plastered all over my chest?)

So you finally started Reclamation? Cool! Can't wait! I, for one, went to bed early enough. And overslept. Yeah, thank you. Finally looked at my alarm clock when Eli was screaming at me from my cell phone for the umteenth time and I went: "Are you kidding me?!" It was 7:30 then. And the first time the alarm went off was at 6:40. Yikes! So I jumped out of bed, got dressed, made myself a quick mug of tea and some toast (that I ate in the car) and left the house at 8. Just in time to be in the office on time.

PS: How do you post pics here again?  I'm not sure how long I can wait to post "my" Linus.  And Anne, you should post yours soon too.  We should each get to choose one initial pic for our launch of the countdown.  It's only fair, right?

I'll send you instructions by e-mail, Deb.

People, you don't know how long we've been waiting for this. Because we have all these wonderful pictures of Chris in Fanboys, and we weren't allowed to share them before. But having spoken to Kyle Newman just last week, and him saying that we may use any material from Fanboys that we already have, I guess this is our official okay to show you some of the awesome stuff that "fell into our hands". Kyle also said there was no marketing on the movie at this point, so I guess it's fair game. If anyone has a good reason for us not to post these, let us know and we'll take them down.

We will not give anything away that might hint at the plot of the movie other than what's already out there on the 'net. We might also crop people out of these pictures. Because this is all about visual Chris pleasure.

We will give you a new Chris picture from Fanboys about once a week, maybe a bit more often if we feel like it. And we know that Fanboys will be released in the US in February 2007, so let's assume it's the last week of February, so that we can give you a countdown. And now: ENJOY!

18 weeks until Fanboys is being released!

(Edit: This was when we still thought the movie was coming out in February. Release date now seems to be August 17, 2007...)

You know what I also get tired of? People at IMDb saying things like: We feel so sorry for the cancer dude because his last dying wish is to see Episode I. We hope he doesn't turn in his grave for having made that his last wish.

And as a reply to one of those, I posted this:

You know... maybe it's not about the movie, about Episode I. It's about the fandom. It's about Star Wars as a whole. It's about loving something that you believe in so much that you take on the impossible and drive across half the country to make your dying friend's last wish come true, it involving a sucky movie or not (because, yes, I also didn't like Episode I much). When you look at it that way, it's really something incredibly powerful. Because what in this world is more important than friends you can count on, friends who support you, friends who would give their last shirt for you?

I wish more people would see that this movie is not about some kids trying to steal a first glimpse at Episode I. It's a movie about friendship and support and being there for each other. And, yes, there will be comedic moments too. Because friends usually have fun together. Friends do crazy things and maybe even sometimes really stupid things. And friends will stick with you, even though you do all of those things. And I'm quite sure you will find a bit of all of that in this movie. And that, I think, will make it a movie worthwhile, that you walk out of with a good feeling.

#8208 Re: Joan of Arcadia » JoA season two on DVD » 18 Oct 06 :: 19:39

I think they cut the opening credits also for rights reasons. If they had wanted to use them in every episode, they would have had to pay more for the rights to play the title song more often. But I'm not sure.

Actually, I'm one of the few people that didn't mind the missing title theme. I'm one of those who will fast forward it on shows that I watch regularly when I know it hasn't changed in any way. Yes, a title theme belongs to a show, but I don't have to see it 22 times over the course of a year if I've seen it a couple of times already. But I do admit there are title themes, and then there are title themes. I loved the ER one, that one I almost never got tired of seeing. Well, they have cut that one down to a stump, now with season 13. Seems like Lost and Grey's Anatomy were trend-setters.

#8209 Re: All About Chris » Your Chrissues of the Day » 18 Oct 06 :: 16:44

Here's my Chrissue of the day. I have already discussed this with Deb by e-mail, but I feel the need to express this publicly again. When we talked to Chris and he gave us that interview, he talked about how he liked to be in movies rather than being a regular on a TV show because he felt he could do so much more in movies, play so many more different roles in a shorter time and explore his range and improve his skills through that. He said he'd love to play more darker roles in the future, to explore his anger and the darker aspects of his psyche. He also said that he would probably not sign up for a six-year TV role in the near future, because he felt that he was going to be stuck with the same character for too long a time, that it wouldn't be challenging enough anymore after a few years. He basically said that all he wants to do is improve his skills and see what he's capable of as a person and actor through as many different roles as he can play.

And he is barely 22 years of age. I find that remarkable. In my early twenties, that was the farthest from my mind. I wasn't halfway as mature then. Working with a pharmaceutical company in a job as something of a project manager, which does require a certain sense of responsibilty on my part and also constant pressure to work on the aspects of my personality where I'm lacking skill, I can now totally see where he's coming from. But it took me almost nine more years than him to get to the point where I start to wonder where my life is going and what I want to do with it and how I can improve as a person. Wow.

Of course for people like Chris, this comes with the job. Look at how young he started in the business, look at how many projects he's already worked on. No wonder that he's got a myriad of experiences under his belt that many of us can only raise their eyebrows at. But I'm glad he seems to have taken them all in stride and used them the best he could and made something positive come out of them. I admire that a lot. And I felt the need to express that.

#8212 Re: Joan of Arcadia » 2x19 Trial & Error » 18 Oct 06 :: 08:12

Oh yes, I can also see how in season three they would have taken the Ryan conflict and taken it to new levels. Adam would have been right there in the middle of Ryan and Joan. He would have been the rope in the tug of war between Joan and Ryan. And I would have loved to see Adam discover after a while what a fluke Ryan actually is and then move over to Joan's side.

And, yes, as shippers of course I would have loved to see Joan and Adam get back together. Not sure it would actually have happened, but I think a lot of fans were hoping it would. But if the network wanted to make JoA like The O.C. (which--I have to admit--I did watch, but not avidly and began more and more to despise as the show went on), who would have known what would have happened. They might have coupled Adam with a really hot and anorexic teenager with lotsa boobies (can you say the Duff sisters??), made him really hip and trendy all of a sudden and have Joan fall for this bad guy who just hung around drinking beer all day and made her discover smoking weed is actually really cool. And, yes, CBS, I'm sure all the kids would have loved that.

Aren't you glad now the show got cancelled? They could have done something really great with season three, but they could also have killed the spirit of the show, as I now realize. They certainly killed the spirit of one of my other favorite shows, Roswell. Season one was just magical, season two went downhill and season three was just barely enjoyable. This was a show I didn't actually mind too much being cancelled after season three. I should really take out my s1 box again and watch it. Haven't done that for a long time. Not that I really have the time...

Okay, I need to get going, otherwise I'll be really late getting to work. I mean, already am.

#8214 Re: Chris On Screen » Just Friends » 18 Oct 06 :: 07:58

Shari, you have no idea how long it took me to watch this movie. Truth be told, I downloaded it off the internet at first (I have the DVD now). And I had it for almost two months before I first watched it. Why? Because, just like you, I don't like these kind of ditsy American Pie-like comedies. I did watch the whole movie without fast forwarding (once), and I just love the Chris bits in it. He's so wonderfully silly in it, and we just love the adorable rubber faced lunacy he displays.

As to the movie as a whole? Pretty crappy, if you ask me. I've seen worse, sure, but this is not a movie I would recommend to others. If it hadn't been for Chris, I absolutely would not have watched it. And I love Chris enough that I would pay money to watch it again when it comes to German theaters. But only for Chris.

#8215 Re: Chris On Screen » Just Friends » 18 Oct 06 :: 00:00

Oh, and finally Chris is coming to German movie screens! (Only a year after the US release...) German release date for Just Friends is apparently Dec 21, 2006. Yay! If they show it without dubbing, I'll be the first in line to see Chris's adorable rubber face plastered all over the silver screen. If not, I might just watch it to get annoyed at how badly they translated it and how much his dubbing voice sucks. I hope it's at least gonna be the same one they used in JoA. I think Ozan Ünal was the guy's name, he must be of Turkish descent. How weird is that?

In fact, Deb and I watched Independence Day together when I was over at her place in Atlanta. And we talked about how badly we wanted to rewrite the whole camper scene. "It's sort of the next step, isn't it?" Aaaaargh!!! Adam! And that out of YOUR mouth? Dude, you're better than that! What would be a total challenge: Rewrite the scene and have both of them say the right things but still not have them ending up sleeping together.

Any takers?

#8219 Re: Introduce Yourself » Just wanted to introduce myself » 17 Oct 06 :: 20:07

Oh, you won't believe the things Deb and I are currently going through on IMDb. The Revenge of the Nerds board is going crazy with people who only wanna trash others. Deb and I have been personally insulted more than once now, and while I try looking at it with a laughing eye, I sometimes have to fight hard not to be discouraged by people claiming Deb and I just went to the set of ROTN to get into Chris's pants. Thank you. I feel so respected as a fan. Did I wear a push-up bra and skimpy clothes, make-up and high heels? (Not to imply that Chris would fall for that in a heartbeat...) No, I wore jeans, a t-shirt, a hoodie and sneakers. Yeah, way to impress him and make him wanna jump right into bed with me. Jesus H. Christ!

Not to mention that we went there with 27 carefully prepared questions that we tried to fit together that they would flow as a conversation and that were as much about him as they were to answer all those questions that have been on our minds. I will admit to there being a certain physical attraction. That's part of the whole fan deal, isn't it? If you didn't like looking at a guy or gal, why would you watch TV shows/movies that he or she's in? And there's nothing wrong with the occasional daydream. But that's all it is for me. Sleep with him for a one-night stand? No, thank you. Expect for him to end up in a serious relationship with me after talking to me for half an hour? That's outright delusional.

Okay, sorry for that rant. I just had to get it off my mind. And I didn't wanna post it on IMDb because that would just have sparked more flaming and trashing, and I just want for it to die down over there.

And, yes, that's what I love about this message board. We all know we like Chris for what he is, which is handsome and talented and oh so powerful at what he does. And have serious discussions about his work, and sometimes, like Anne said, just have a place to go where you can be silly without being ridiculed. Have we told you about the eyebrows? I have this inexplicable infatuation with his eyebrows. They are just so straight and long and just beautiful. And now I've seen them in person. smile

Yes, it annoys me too when you go to message boards about actors and want to talk about what fascinates you about his latest performance and all you get from the teens that hang around is "He's so hot," and "I'd totally do him." Oh yes, thank you for those wonderfully relevant and enlightening words. They really enriched my day. You know, it's probably different here because we've all passed the age of 20. Or at least most of us have and those that haven't are a little more mature than other kids their age.

How sad is it that the people on the JoA FanForum claim to be fans but not one of them has replied to my posting that we met Chris and that he's a total sweetheart. If I had read that about someone else, I would totally have quizzed the sweet life out of that person about what the experience was like. Is it just me, or are some message boards just riddled with really shallow people with no passion for what they claim to be fans of? Geez, I'm on a crusade again. I don't mean to praise this board above all else, I'm just so friggin' frustrated, is all. I should just stop going there, probably.

But, hey, let me turn my frustration and anger into something positive here, because I swore that before I went home from work, I would write up a Fanboys synopsis for the website. Let me get started on that and go back to happyland.

Again, I'm sorry for all the ranting. I'm not usually this crabby. And can I just say that I'm so glad that we have all the great guys on this message board with whom you can actually hold an honest and serious discussion about the things that matter to us and are on our minds. I feel so blessed about the fact that I've had the chance to meet two of them in person so far. And I'm glad we have you on board now, Shari. Thanks so much for stopping by, hope you stay.

#8220 Re: Joan of Arcadia » 2x19 Trial & Error » 17 Oct 06 :: 09:14

Thank you for that lengthy reply with your thoughts on post-Bonnie Adam. Yes, I was nodding all the way through it, because I feel exactly the same way. You don't know how many fan fictions I've written that deal with his pain and remorse and regret, and somehow finding a reason to justify it. You'd think I was over that by now, but every now and then I wanna go back to that moment of sheer agony and delve into it and Adam's mind, and then put his thoughts down on paper. (Deb, I'll try hard not to in the future and instead concentrate on our redeemed Butterflies Adam, I promise.)

And shrams? I think you'll love what Chris himself had to say about the episode:

Chris:
Oh, you have no idea! I hated it! I got in the biggest argument with all the producers. You have no idea. I was like: You're going to ruin me... as an actor. Because like, you don't understand, anybody who ever likes me on the show is because of my relationship with Joan. And I was like, and there is absolutely no reason why he should do this. I fought that for about two weeks when I first got the script, and then when I went in, I even fought about, like OK, well I guess if he has to cheat, what exactly are we gonna do with it then? Is it all gonna be in vain, is there like a—? You know, I tried to make a reason, you know? I tried to find some kind of reason, to make him a bit more immature, and a bit more like he's just, it's kind of like he's got tons of hormones and he's a teenager, and some girl just lays herself out and he just has to? You know? And that still didn't really come across, so, to be honest, it really didn't—

Tina:
You know, the fans hated that episode.

Chris:
Yeah, I bet they did. And that's what I told them! And so I'm glad to finally know, because I kept telling them. I was like guys, they're gonna— You don't understand, this makes no sense. And to be honest, you know, what they wanted is, they wanted, the studio, those people, wanted to make the show for kids. They wanted to make it for young kids. Literally, I think they wanted to make it like The O.C. And so the idea was like make people cheat on people. And like make people heartbroken. And you know, if there's any decent character, make him an asshole. You know, and it was like why are you gonna do that to these nice people with this decent relationship? At the same time the only thing nice about it, the only thing that they sorta convinced me was nice about it, they said after a while, you guys are kinda like an old married couple. And I was like, I can kinda see that. And they're like so we're kinda— that was their thing to me. Which, to be honest, was kinda hiding the fact that they just, you know were trying to make us The O.C. But at the same time, it was like, OK, this is what it has to be. You have no idea, I really... I went through, like, a lot of hell with that episode, you have no— Yeah, I really did.

Yeah, we were all upset. You have no— Amber and I sat down with Jim Hayman and Peter Schindler, and uh, a couple— I forgot exactly who wrote that episode because the writers all switched so much. But we sat down with all five of them and we were like we can't do this. I don't know what you guys are doing, but we can't do this. Like, I mean, you want us to break up, we'll break up, but don't like have him cheat on her. Amber was upset, I was upset, everybody was. It really didn't make any sense. Michael Welch came to me, Jason Ritter came to me, even Mary Steenburgen, everybody came and was like, I don't understand why they're doing it. I was like, me either! I keep telling 'em, so... Everybody was completely against it.

And you're right about all the good male TV characters that have sprung up in recent years (and surprisingly, I know most of them). I have one more to name, even though it's kind of an insult to name him in the same thread as JoA: Jim Gordon from Ghost Whisperer. It's not that I love the show, but I watch it on occasion when I feel like just wanting something mindless that'll still make me cry (because I'm a crybaby when it comes to TV--and I can't help it, even if it's cheap TV like that show). But then again, Jim is too much of the perfect husband. No guy can be that perfect. Guess that's why I love Joe from Medium so much better, he's got flaws, he doesn't always react perfectly. And that's just very very real. When does the new season of Medium start again?

#8221 Re: Introduce Yourself » Just wanted to introduce myself » 17 Oct 06 :: 09:02

Gee, now we have two people here with an age that has a 4 in the front (sorry, Deb, I had to say it). I'm 30 myself, so not quite a teen anymore either. And I guess that separates us from a lot of message boards, where you mostly find one sentence posts that don't have a lot of depth. Not that I wanna trash other boards and praise ourselves above all else, but this board (and previously Melissa's board) is honestly the one message boad I'm having the most fun with. And so far there are only respectful and decent people around, so I hope you are inclined to come back here as often as you can.

I can only second what Deb said, including the fan fiction part. I have written close to 30 JoA stories, and writing our latest epic, Butterflies, has been so much fun. Still is. I love that story.

If you haven't seen Huff with Chris, shrams, why don't you take a look at the video clips we have on the site? Chris's scenes are all there. He's kinda creepy, but not as creepy as they wanted to make him at first (as Chris told us himself). Read the interview with him if you wanna hear what that's all about. Major ewwww moment. tongue And we found it quite refreshing to see Chris as some kind of bad guy. If you wanna look for the episodes Chris is in on TV, it's 2x04 Sweet Release, 2x10 Bethless and 2x11 Tapping The Squid. He was supposed to come back in season 3, but I guess with the cancellation we're out of luck here.

Oh, and thanks for coming over here from LJ.

Oh yes, Chris was fantastic both in TTC and the TBAA episode. Did you notice that his tics were different in either of those? That, in itself, is quite an accomplishment and shows once again how much of a talented actor he is. I also loved the message of TTC, that you don't have to be an outsider when you have an illness or a disability of some sort.

Chris himself was also very proud of this movie. In our interview, he said that it was his ultimate career goal, to do something like the The Tic Code again that he can be proud of as much as he is of this movie. I hope he gets the chance to work on something along those lines in the future.

Hi Tina,

Glad to hear you met and talked with Chris.  Not only is he very
talented, but he's a sweet person -- no ego, all about doing good work.

Having to leave new mexico last year after our prep was difficult,
but false starts are common in this business.  And, we have a great
team assembled so we're all very optimistic about shooting in 2007.

Thanks for the offer of doing promotion.  Once we get rolling I'll
make sure you get some press materials for the website.

take care,

Gary

And I somehow hope Gary didn't read all of the above baseball booty droolings. I just wanna hide in a mouse hole right now. Forgive us, we get a little silly sometimes.
