I could probably see it every week, and still end up crying like a baby watching it.

Thanks so much for the wishes.

Here's a song that I hope you like:

Harlan Ellison is priceless in person.  He pulls no punches and he's funny as hell.  I love him!  The last con I went too was Vulcon '94.  I was heavy into Next Gen at the time and wanted to write a script for the America's Best competition, so I told myself it was research.  I bought the show's Technical Manual there and it really did help.  But the best part was Patrick Stewart's panel in which he reduced every woman in the room to a puddle on the floor by reciting an erotic poem in THAT VOICE.

Ellison is the man. The last time that I saw him was at a lecture at Ryerson theatre in Toronto on February 8, 1987, a very cold night, indeed. There was a blizzard coming, and, after about three hours of HE, he stopped to let us know that it was snowing madly outside, and that anyone using public transit (like me) had best leave ASAP, or face being trapped in downtown Trawna, in the snow !

I left, grudgingly, and he apparently continued for another hour or two.

I have to put http://www.adventurelandthefilm.com/ on my Netflix queue. Thanks for reminding me that I didn't see that one.

I haven't been to a "con" in years. When I was about 15 years old, myself and two good friends of mine attended Star Trek Con '76, which was held at the very snazzy Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto (Patty and I have stayed there a few times, and it is just great).

We had a nitfy time, watching movies, going to panel discussions, meeting "Trek" actors (who were all very nice peeps), and, best of all, getting to hear Harlan Ellison lecture for the first time.

Oh yeah, I also spent a fortune in the dealer's room(s).

I need to go to a "con" again.

I watched INFESTATION on the absurdly named "SYFY" channel, so I am assuming that it was probably cut in some ways; I know for a fact that Kinsey Packard's boobies were blurred up/out. I will have to add INFESTATION to my Netflix queue to watch the uncensored version.

I was always a bit creeped out by Ian Dury.  But I can totally see Andy Serkis in that part!  Great casting.

I even found the video for "Jilted John" (that's Martin Hannett pretending to play the bass in the background):

(just a note: the video is VERY loud)

roll  You REALLY need to get past that.  I said I was sorry!

I will more than likely be seeing The Runaways movie, having been a casual fan of the band back in the day (though I never saw 'em live, just on telly). I will also be seeing, and am really looking forward to, the Ian Dury biopic called Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. I was a BIG fan of Dury & the Blockheads, and it will be cool to see Andy Serkis playing yet another British music icon (he played Martin Hannett in the excellent 24 Hour Party People).

Note -- I just Wiki'ed Martin Hannett and found out that he was the bass player on the great song "Jilted John," which he also produced. I did not know that !

Hee.  My intro to Cockney rhyming slang came in about 1979 when I saw the Alderton & Collins Britcom, No, Honestly! for the first time.  Clara was always mangling it and C.D. could never figure out what she was trying to say.  It was HIGHlarious.

That was a nifty show. I have always liked Pauline Collins, and am pleased to see that she still is working regularly, though I haven't seen her in much since Shirley Valentine. She apparently has a part in the next Woody Allen film.

Very cool, indeed. When we were in Utah a few years back, the ATM could dispense cash, etc. in a language called  "HMOOB," which was a new one on me. Its apparently an Asian language.

Dakota Fanning is tipped to star in a sequel to The Wizard Of Oz, according to reports.

The 15 year old star of Charlotte's Web and War of the Worlds is set to take the lead in a follow-up to the classic 1939 movie that shot Judy Garland to fame.

The film's producer, Basil Iwanyk, says, "It will be set in the present day and feature Dorothy's granddaughter."

The original film - based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz - won a number of awards including the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Co-producer Todd McFarlane adds, "You've still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place, but she's much closer to the Ripley character from Alien than a helpless singing girl."

The classic original already has one sequel - the 1985 film, Return to Oz, was based on Baum's novels Ozma of Oz and The Marvelous Land of Oz.

Dave Thomas (not *that* Dave Thomas) was the star of Rocketship 7, a kid's show from Buffalo. He's now called Dave Roberts, and he's a weather man in Philly. In Buffalo, he was the sports guy, as I recall. He has aged well.

Also, who is Jacen ?
