#655 Re: Square Eyes » Do you think we need movie critics? » 08 Jul 09 :: 01:19

*shrug* i dont think i would cry if all of a sudden there were no movie critics out there. Most movie watching decision are really based on the trailer, or word of mouth for me usually. But Rick definitely has a point too about the smaller indy movies. The ones that dont have trailers plastered across the tv, posters everywhere or even big stars. Critics do tend to draw attention to those movies. Believe it or not its how i was first turned onto Alpha Dog. On the outset it didnt really play to a movie that i would have liked but saw a review and gave it a chance. Now its without doubt one of my favourite movies of all time. So i guess they have their place in our world. The unofficial critics, that are more bloggers just looking for something to talk about and chose to judge movies, yeah they can shove it!

#656 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Jacko had a heart attack » 08 Jul 09 :: 01:11

I think it started at like 3am our time, so havent had a chance to watch it yet. But im not worried. I am sure every network is going to be fighting to show the highlights of it. I just feel so sorry for his children.

#657 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 08 Jul 09 :: 01:06

sad That doesnt sound good at all Simon, you ok?? Whats up??

#658 Re: Square Eyes » Misc Stuff » 07 Jul 09 :: 03:39

I love those movies too!! Oh so much! And P.S. Bells Beach, while awesome, the waves are no where NEAR as big as portrayed in the movie. Hahaha and yeah i actually watched Dazed and Confused a few nights ago. Just made me realise how similiar Remember the Daze is to this movie.

#659 Re: Square Eyes » In Praise of Chris's Colleagues » 07 Jul 09 :: 02:27

I did really enjoyed one of the fight scenes, where he had promised to not fight but was surrounded by guys so he just avoided them the entire time and they ended up hurting themselves. It was done really well and looked cool. My nephews made me replay that scene at least 3 times. I found it kinda bizarre they didnt use an Asian actor though, but it actually kinda worked.

#660 Re: Square Eyes » In Praise of Chris's Colleagues » 07 Jul 09 :: 02:08

Hahahaha ok so I am most likely just very slow...But hey.... Last night was watching Dragonball Evolution with my nephews and I got that feeling of "OH OH OH I know that person...where do i know them from" So after many frustrating minutes i decided that IMDB was the way to go. Goku, the main character was none other than Justin Chatwin that played Nick from The Invisible.

#661 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Jacko had a heart attack » 07 Jul 09 :: 01:51

I had to check what that was in kilos....about 50 kilo. Thats tiny! I dont think ive been that size since i was 11

#663 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 06 Jul 09 :: 02:38

My heart goes out to you and your friends TeeJay. Hope it all works out in the end smile

#664 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Joke Of The Day » 04 Jul 09 :: 09:46

Hahahaha yeah the first skit done of Americans arent stupid was done ages ago. Those guys are Australian. I LOVE them. The do some absolutely amazing skits. Been arrested a fair few times too, but all in good fun. They get a fair bit of backlash, but in honesty one of the funniest shows i know. But yeah...check this clip out below. They got arrested for this one. Kinda amusing though smile

*EDIT* - The show is called Chasers War On Everything. (The group of guys are known as the Chasers) HIGHlarious!!!!

#665 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 02 Jul 09 :: 06:43

Laura - One of my closest mates is a guy named Andre. Poor boy barely reaches my shoulder and im not tall. And with the asian genes too he has the fine features that will make him look 12 when he is 50. Just rememeber to have your ID on you at all times, and it helps to actually look like your ID. I had to go and get my photo redone cos i was having too many hassles after i cut my hair

#666 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 02 Jul 09 :: 06:35

Hahahaha i actually very rarely get picked for my age, but strangely i got older AND younger. My actual age is 23 but ive gotten anywhere from 16 to 36. But the thing thats weird is i rarely get anywhere between 20-25, which considering my age you would assume. Meh, it doesnt really bother me all that much. The only time its bothered me is back when i was working at the supermarket and was working behind the express isle which was also the ciggarette kiosk, i had the store manager pull me aside and tell me that i had to be 18 to be serving ciggarettes. My response...ummm exactly how old do you think i am? I was 16 apparently. This was a new store manager and i had been there for quite some time, I was 21 at the time and rather embarrassed to be pulled off register for that. But like i said it usually doesnt bother me all that much.

Also Laura, congrats. I loved being 21 - Its time to do all the naughty adult things legally smile

Deb - You make me feel so little, i wasnt even born in '83. Not even a twinkle in the eye at that stage.

I am the youngest here at my work now. Well we have one casual worker that is 19 and he comes in to help with IT a couple of days a month every now and then, but other than that i am the office baby. So i get teased a little about being naive and stuff

#667 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 01 Jul 09 :: 02:35

I agree Deb, If it wasnt illegal what he was doing i would be so proud to be his mother or whatever. I am just in awe what he managed to get away with

#668 Re: Chris On Screen » Infestation (SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE BEGIN ON PAGE 15) » 01 Jul 09 :: 02:29

Just as a side note....he looks so hot on the cover smile But it really is to be expected

Hahaha im on a roll and i cant stop....

#670 Re: Off Topic Stuff » "... like without too much singing." ::: Our Music Thread » 26 Jun 09 :: 05:48

Im not saying that you dont like Australian stuff or that you should like the same as me or anything like that. Im just being pushy smile I think you will like Jet, Deb. They copped a fair bit of flack for being very similiar to the beatles sound, but i reckon they are awesome. That and they grew up in the same suburb only a few streets away from me and were highschool mates with my brother.

Both Youtube clips of one of my favourite comedians. Tim Minchin. He is rather odd. I actually dont find him that hilarious but he is so talented. The second video was more just a song of his that i really enjoy the sentiment of.

#672 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 26 Jun 09 :: 05:24

That is really sad...but then i think cheating in general is pretty sad and pathetic. On a side note I am going to turn each and everyone of you into fans of Australia. Hahahaha i started playing with the screen caps of Aussie Movies, and i have now made a post about Aussie music. I will get there....

#673 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 26 Jun 09 :: 05:08

I actually find it amusing how alike the 2 women look...but im weird like that

#674 Re: Off Topic Stuff » "... like without too much singing." ::: Our Music Thread » 26 Jun 09 :: 05:05

Ok i have finally gotten around to reading this whole thread and i am kinda disappointed that not one Australian band was mentioned. Well actually "Men at work - Land down under" is but hey that was a random mention right at the beginning about the #1 song on your birthday. Mine for the record is Kiss - Prince. I think i have very similar tastes to TeeJay, and the others that agreed with her too. Curious though...what do you think of Seether?? I absolutely love them. Plus i have seen Linkin Park live a couple of times and whoa that was awesome! Also seen Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger twice and that was amazing fun.

Just putting it out there, cos if you didnt know by now I am a very proud Australian. Let me know what you think. I have posted a couple of links to bands that are;

Australian alternative rock

Dont get me wrong, I like music that isnt Australian too. I just have a certain pride that makes me wanna turn you all into fans. There are many many more that i enjoy. But these are bands that i enjoy first and then are proud to say are Australian. Definite preference to what i call lyrical rock. Where its got a hard bass line, got the drums got the noise, but good singing voice. I have seen 7 of these bands live. Grew up literally round the corner from 2 of them, and met another 2.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know what you think!
