#8477 Re: Joan of Arcadia » best JoA moments » 11 Aug 06 :: 13:02

Thanks, Deb, for the suggestions. So, let me start on this one.

1) Best Opening A/J scene
Tough one. How many are there? And do you mean just the first scene with Joan and Adam in any episode, or actually episodes where the very first scene is a Joan/Adam scene? How many are there? You know, I have a hard time coming up with either. I think I'd have to research this some more. I remember one opening scene in the school hallway that involved talk about cream chicken to be offered in the cafeteria, but I wouldn't peg this as a great moment.

2) Best Closing A/J scene
Without a doubt 2x07 P.O.V. It's my all time favorite Joan/Adam scene. ADAMNEEDSAHUG! (Well, he does get one, so..... Maybe that's why I like it so much.)

3) Best Kiss
Also without a doubt the one at the end of 2x15 Romancing The Joan. Probably the most intense kiss between the two of them (casting aside the serious make-out scene in Adam's camper in Independence Day). I love that scene. I love that shot. I love that kiss.

4) Best Joan/Other moment
Hm... Best Joan/Grace moment? There's two that come to mind right now. One: Grace tells Joan how Adam's mother died in Jump. Two: Grace and Joan talk about gifts and condoms and sex in The Gift. Best Joan/Helen moment: Joan talks to Helen about how it's completely irrational that she is jealous of Iris in... uh... can't remember the episode. There are tons of other great moments, but this is the one that just came to mind.

5) Best Adam/Other moment
Best Adam/Grace moment, yes, Deb, you said it: Adam and Grace talk in the biology closet about what Adam should do, now that Helen knows that he tried to sleep with Joan. God, I love that scene!! What ep was that? Secret Service? Best Adam/Helen moment would have to be the one from Jump, where Helen reads Elizabeth's letter to Adam. But there are more great moments, too. For instance when she tells him in Secret Service why she chose Nicky Freezer to do the art presentation instead of him at the end.

6) Best use of a song for an A/J moment
Yes, of course Colilde is a wonderful example. But my favorite is probably Wreck of the Day in Spring Cleaning. ("Driving away from the wreck of the day, and I'm thinking about calling on Jesus.") Made me buy the Anna Nalick album. Wait, strike that. I'd like to correct that to Across The Universe by Fiona Apple. Granted, the first scene that song was used doesn't involve Adam, but the other two do. And I thought it was a great choice in music. But the Anna Nalick song is a close second, to be followed by Collide. This show had such a lot of great music for great moments.

#8478 Re: All About Chris » Your Chrissues of the Day » 10 Aug 06 :: 18:57

My Chrissue of the day was that at work I quality checked one of our Trial Master File folders from the UK and there was a doctor there whose CV said:
Electives: Pasqua Hospital, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada

What does that remind us of? Probably had a Ken doll moment too if he was there in the winter. ("Huh! Where did they go?!")  wink

I copied this over from the message board at christopher-marquette.com because it's just too funny.

Okay, so the username Eli Rove (on the other message board) got me thinking.... what if, in a totally twisted Joaniverse, Adam had an identical twin named Eil Rove? I can think up a couple of scenarios that will hopefully make you smile:

So, let's assume for a moment that Eli doesn't go to the same school Adam, Joan and Grace do. Joan knows about him, but doesn't know him in person yet. One night, she goes to visit Adam at home (this would be her first time there).

INT. ROVE RESIDENCE, EARLY EVENING.

Joan turns up at Adam's house, they go to Adam's room. Eli comes out of his room as Adam and Joan are just about to enter Adam's.

ELI: Hey, bro, what's up?
ADAM: Eli, hi.
ELI: So, who's the hot chick? (points at Joan)
ADAM: (stammering slightly) Oh, uh, this ... this is Jane.
ELI: Jane, huh? (smiles at Joan) I'm Eli.
JOAN: Well, it's Joan actually. Nice to meet you.
Joan holds out her hand. They shake hands.
ELI: (frowns) Which is it now, Joan or Jane?
JOAN: It's Joan. Your brother calls me Jane. Why, I don't know. You'd have to ask him.
ELI: (shrugs) Nah, not going there. He's a weirdo. It's what he does.
At that moment, there's TV noises coming out of Eli's room, loud moaning and something that sounds like whiplashes and fragments of words like "Oh! Yeah, baby!"
ADAM: (to Joan, blushing slightly) So... okay. Uhm, come on in.
Adam opens the door to his room and lets Joan enter first. Once she's inside, Eli takes Adam by the upper arm, holding him back for a moment.
ELI: So, you gonna bang her?
ADAM: (sighs) Eli...
ELI: (holds up his hands akin to a defensive gesture) Okay, okay. I'm just sayin'...
ADAM: Do me a favor and turn that down. And don't snoop around, okay?
ELI: Okay, sure, you got it.
Adam goes into his room. Joan gives him a sheepish smile.
JOAN: That's not ... (points in the direction of Eli's room) what I think it is, is it?
ADAM: Oh. Uhm... Well, he's got this thing for ... uh...
JOAN: Porn?
ADAM: Look, I know it's kinda embarrassing, but, yeah. I mean, he's a nice guy and all...
JOAN: Hey, don't worry about it. It's cool. He and Friedman would become fast friends, don't you think?

smile

Or Adam and Eli in the shed:

INT. ROVE'S SHED, SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

This is not the shed's interior the way we know it. It's still the same shed, there's just a lot of video equipment around, two TV sets, a computer and several tripods and two video cameras in the front part of the room. The back is still the workbench with lots of artsy stuff around. Eli is fumbling around with one of the video cameras, sitting on a stool in front of his TV. Adam comes in, walking to the back of the room to where his workbench is at which he usually does his art.

As Adam approaches his workbench, we see that there are video tapes littered on it. Adam picks a tape up, holding it in Eli's face.

ADAM: Eli, how often do you have to tell you not to put this smut with my art.
ELI: Chill, dude. It's just porn, okay?
ADAM: It's embarrassing. Not to mention inappropriate. What if Jane comes here and sees all this?
ELI: (knowingly) Oooooh, Jane. Now I see. You really like this girl, huh?
ADAM: (impatiently) Yeah, I like this girl. Could we give it a rest already?
ELI: (winks at Adam) So, have you... you know? (makes a fist with one hand and slaps the palm of his other hand against the thumb and index finger area a few times)
ADAM: I don't see how that's any of your business.
ELI: Aw, come on. I mean, it's the logical thing to do, right?
ADAM: For you, maybe.
ELI: Hey, come on, you don't wanna tell me that you haven't thought about it. I mean, she's hot. She's totally into you, so what are you waiting for?
He gives Adam a good natured slap on the shoulder. Adam looks annoyed for a moment, then he narrows his eyes, looking at Eli inquisitively.
ADAM: How do you know she's into me?
ELI: Hey, man, it's totally obvious. Don't tell me you didn't notice the way she looks at you. Seriously, you're some piece of work. She's, like, so into you.
ADAM: (repeats to himself) She's into me. (looks at Eli) So, what do I do?
ELI: You have to ask? Take her to a motel room and bang her like a beast!

What do you think will be on there? We should really make our own "best of Chris" video. We all know the AG meltdown will have to be in it. What else? The T&E break-up scene? Which James scene? The "biblical revenge" one? And which Eli scene? And which JF scene?

I just stumbled across Michael Welch's blog once again (and I wish Chris had something like that too!) and there was something I hadn't really realized before that now struck me. Chris just recently did two movies together with Michael: The Beautiful Ordinary and Choose Connor. I don't know why, but it didn't really register with me that Michael was in both those movies too. Makes me want to see them even more. (Unfortunately, Michael didn't say anything about Chris in his blog.)

I just downloaded and watched Michael's demo reel they offer on his website. Great stuff. And you can see him with long hair (can't say I dig it--but that's a pattern with me). And he's really good at playing the angry kid, too. I wanna see Chris's demo reel!!! (I've seen Martin Lindow's.)

And to explain for those who don't know what a demo reel is: It's a video with a collection of some of the actor's best scenes (hey, maybe we should do our own Chris demo reel), around 5 minutes long, aimed at showing the whole range of one's acting abilities. Basically like a picture on your job application, only this "picture" is moving. This is passed to whoever has an interest in the actor or those who have a say in something that the actor wants to work on. It's sort of a pre-audition thing where someone who possibly wants to hire an actor can look at him/her and get an impression what he/she's like before meeting him/her. (Right, Deb?)

#8483 Joan of Arcadia » Chris Marquette on Joan of Arcadia » 09 Aug 06 :: 08:16

I just realized that there might be people here who have never seen this show and wonder what it has to do with Chris. Well, he was a regular in it. He played Adam Rove, a very sweet, sensitive artsy guy. Very soft-spoken with a lot of emotional baggage. And he was Joan's love interest. He went through a rather drastic character transformation at the end of season two (dreaded episode 2x19 Trial & Error, to be exact), but let's not spoil at this point.

He appeared in every episode except for the pilot, he was only introduced in the second episode. For those who wanna read up on Adam (and Joan), check out the "Adam/Joan Journey" on our website. We also have lots of little video snippets of worthy Adam/Joan scenes in the JoA Video Clips section.

This is Chris as Adam on Joan of Arcadia in season 1 and in season 2:

Chibi, you're here! Welcome!! You'll like it here, I'm sure. Anne is still on vacation, but she'll be happy to welcome you when she gets back. I hope you get to practise your English a little since Deb doesn't speak any German. But as you might have seen, we have a German corner as well. This is gonna be fun, but for the moment there's just us here. Anne, Deb and me and Sean, our inside guy who played an extra on the movie "Fanboys". I don't know if Anne told you about him (his name is Chnyst here).

And don't be afraid to use your English, you'll be able to chat away in English in no time.

#8487 Re: All About Chris » Your Top Five Performances » 05 Aug 06 :: 16:19

I haven't posted my top 5 performances, have I? Okay, here goes:

#1: Miracles
Yes, this is my top performance, it even tops American Gun. He just does the kid Travis so torturous that it rips my heart out every time. Don't think I've ever seen a performance that made me cringe as much as this did and still does every time I rewatch it.

#2: American Gun
That's my number two, following Miracles very closely. We all know why. DAVIDNEEDSAHUG! That meltdown was just damn near brilliant. Is there any scene where we see him and he doesn't have tears in his eyes?

#3: Just Friends
Ah, I know, you're gonna go: What???!! now, right? I didn't want to watch this movie for such a long time because I was sure I would not like it. Well, I don't like the movie that much, but I just LOVE Chris in it. And this is about performances and not the movie. And his performance was just hilarious and wonderful. Deb said recently she loved his gorgeous rubber face. That's what it is, he can do so many funny grimaces and it's always spot-on. In Deb's words: Chris is the most adorable horndog ever.

#4: Joan of Arcadia
Sweet Adam. Don't we all love him? Don't we all want our own Adam at home we can hug to death? No character has been played into  my heart and got stuck there as much and as long as Adam has. And writing fan fiction has never been so much fun. If I had to name one scene that has stuck with me expecially, it would have to be the break-up scene from T&E. No question. Never have I agonized about something on TV as much as I did about that episode and that scene.

#5: Huff
This character James was just so different, it was both refreshing and surprising watching Chris portraying a character that you don't want to hug to death or who's not some horny comedic jerk, as much as I love those. You thought he can't pull off playing a bad guy? Oh yes, he so can!

It's so hard to put his performances into any sort of order that makes sense, because I loved him as Eli, Miles, Cody and Marc too. But I guess the five above are my very favorites.

Executive producer??? EXECUTIVE PRODUCER????? Is this the same Chris Marquette we're talking about here? That's cool. So he's moving behind the camera now too? Wow... Talk about being ambitious.

It's not on IMDb yet. And they don't list any cast for it yet on hollywood.com (where I found it). Maybe Chris is acting in it as well... This is the link to the source: http://www.hollywood.com/movies/detail/id/3462011

#8492 Re: The Bullhorn » A Brief History Of The Dorquettes » 31 Jul 06 :: 14:44

Oh, and maybe we should add that you can also become something of an Ultimate Dorquette. As Ultimate Dorquette, you would do such completely crazy things like sewing eyebrows onto your donkey beanie keychain that you've named Adam because he didn't have eyebrows when you got him. You would also pour time you don't really have into making a website about a certain Mr. Marquette to honor him and his work. You would have a Drool Collage wallpaper with pictures of him as your desktop background and something similar as your cell phone wallpaper. You would have a picture of him as Jedi Knight on the wall behind your office desk because he looks so contemplative on it. And you would feel somewhat weird about all of that because you're a little too old for that kind of thing.

And this is not to say that any of us is actually an Ultimate Dorquette. La la la... <whistles innocently> smile

Oh yeah, I know about Nana Visitor being on the show. I'm a huge DS9 fan, and I loved Nana as Major Kira. I've heard people tell only good things about her who saw her at conventions. She sounds like a regular "dude", just like Chris. Not those arrogant types. I hope you get to meet her. And, sure, I'd love to hear all about her. Actually, when I turn my head to the left, I can see her autograph hanging on my wall. I have a small collection: Martin Lindow (German actor), Gerti Honneck (Cpt. Janeway's German dubbing voice--I saw her in a theater play a while ago), Alexander Siddig (formerly Siddig El-Fadil, a.k.a. Doctor Bashir on DS9), Nana Visitor and Max Grodénchik (who played Rom on DS9). I met him at a con once, and he's a totally nice guy. I'm on the photo he signed too. Too cool! Oh, and I forgot one of the original props from a German cop show Martin Lindow was on. I've got his shoulder gun holster that he used to wear. Signed by him!

And I really hope to complete my small collection with an autograph of Chris's some day.

The greatest actor in the world? I think to determine that, I'd have to see a few more actors in action. Plus I haven't really seen all that Chris has done so far. Yes, he is a very fine actor. Great actor, even. I wouldn't go as far as saying he's the greatest actor in the world. The very best of his generation, yes, may be. But then, I don't think I know that many actors of his generation. I had never even heard of, for instance, Nikki Reed before AG. And only then did I realize she was on The O.C.

But I have to give him that he has certainly impressed me like no other actor has so far. And he rocks in whatever he does. And that's saying a lot. Of course it helps that he's so very handsome. The eyebrows notwithstanding. smile You see, I used to say I wouldn't watch a movie that doesn't really interest me only because there's an actor in it that I like. Chris has changed my mind. I watched JF, didn't I? I watched Freddy vs. Jason, and that was CRAP on a stick! So that means he's got me spellbound, he certainly has.

I could yammer on and praise this guy for pages and pages. Get my drool towel, someone!! smile

I think I may know why this movie was never released. Apparently, its distributor, Senator International declared insolvency in 2004. At least their website (which is German, because Senator is a German company) said so. It also said something about cancelling the insolvency trial in 2006, and they are still releasing movies. But that may play a role in why this movie suddenly disappeared. Man, I really wish we could see this movie. I watched the trailers with Lars last night and I wanna hear Chris as Jac! I loved "Final Fantasy", and this movie seems along the same lines.

Let's hope for a release in 2007.......

If you're gonna send a tape, put as many Chris SM eps on it as possible, please. Preferably the later ones. I can dub all of that. And then make awesome vidcaps, if the quality is good enough. What I'd really like to have is Body Mass Increase and Goodbye/Rest In Peace. And the one that's about this guy hitting and molesting his girlfriend and Marc tries to protect her. What was her name? Trina? Treena? Can't remember what that one's called.  Anything else would be great.

Yes, sure I can get it to DVD. Actually, Aldi (one of our all-purpose stores--you'll remember, Deb, because you've got one in Atlanta too) has a DVD recorder next week. I would love love love to buy it, but it's 300 EUR. I wasn't planning on spending my money on anything "big" before my trip to Atlanta. Now I'm tempted again. Because if I have to go to Ralf's again, I'll have to take my VCR too. His isn't that good. Baaaaahhhh, what am I gonna do??? Guess I should check my finances.

So, yeah, sure, go ahead and send the tape, that would be totally cool. I'd love to see this. Plus we could put this stuff on the website since no one else has it. I'd so love to watch it!!!!
